If they stay stationary/inch forward slowly there wouldn't really be any space to exploit behind them, plus in order to get behind them you'll need to pass through their vicious fire arc. That's the main benefit for keeping them pinned back in their own deployment zone with good long range firepower, it helps negate their poor maneuverability
