per the Warhammer Rulebook FAQ (pg 2)

    Page 248 –

Ruins Change the first paragraph of rules text to read: ‘Unless they can Fly, Vehicles, Monsters, Cavalry and Bikers can only be set up or end their move on the ground floor of ruins.’

    emphasis mine

    There is also the FAQ.

Also, this is fluff thing for me as much as it is rules. If the opponent points out that a given ruin just doesn't look sturdy enough for "heavy" vehicles, that seems fair. I get that. I could put a sentinel or rapier, but imperial knight or land raider just can't, that makes sense and is reasonable.

I would say this: this is either a fluff question or it isn't. What I mean by this, is that fluff based scenarios should be played in an "open" or "narrative" game setting; and not in a matched play setting. And if it is an "open" or "narrative" game setting, then it doesn't matter what it says in the book. In many ways, the book becomes moot and everything should be resolved according to player consent, using the rules only as a guideline.

In a matched play scenario you would need the TO to make the call. And if I were the TO I would likely say no, a model cannot deploy to a location it cannot end it's movement in.

So are you asking because you want to play a fluffy game or a competitive game? That is where the answer to this question truly lies.

  3. So I thought I would share some pictures from the match up.

Overall it was awesome. I finally got to set up my home table, which was great. And I showcased the terrain that I got for my birthday.

@Josiah was a great opponent, and we spent some time trying to figure out where to go with his army.

This match up has really taught me how good ultramarines have it in this edition so far. I really look forward to trying to figure out different ways to run my army. And I think I'm going to add some more primaris marines to my force. Intercessor squads have been a ton of fun.

  4. So I had a league match against my good friend @Josiah last night. We used the open war cards and it was a ton of fun. But I am a bit perplexed.

    Because Knights.

When 8th dropped I was up against a lot of tanks. Predators were played left and right, and I didn't have anything to hurt them except one thing, Knights. And since lascannons were so prevalent, I didn't feel bad about having a single Knight on the table. But I think I'm not correctly gauging the power of the Knights in the new edition.

So at what do you guys think? What size game should I be using them?

I really like the visual of a platoon of astartes supported by a lone Knight, hunting tanks and renegade knights.

    What changes should a make?

Where's their renegade tits? I apologize for being crass, but what makes them reneSoBs?

My head cannon. I don't mean to be abrupt, but I have never been a fan of "boob armor". So, I'm not going to do it. There are going to be some head swaps here and there, but for the most part I will be using stock CSM models.

  6. So I had a match last night at WoW against Bryan and his Raven Guard.

It was a 50 Power match up, and I brought:

    1 Captain with Shield Eternal

1 Primaris Lt. with bolt rifle

2 tac squads with missile launcher, combi-plas, and chainsword

    1 intercessor squad

    1 Imperial Knight Paladin

This roster amounted to 48 Power and was divided into two detachments granting me 6 CP.

I haven't really had a chance to play with my Knights in the new edition, and I fielded them very rarely in 6th and 7th. So I was super excited to give it a whirl. And I didn't disappoint. In the end it only killed one dreadnought, that was mostly due to me not using it correctly. It really feels like Imperial Knights need to be treated a more mobile Dreads. Like maybe I should be moving them around the field like they were something out of MechWarrior. So this was a good learning game for me.

As always Bryan was a great guy and I had a blast.

And not as fun as 9th Age!

Well I am looking forward to throwing down with some 9th Age. I do miss moving ranks of little dudes around the table.

However, I have been watching some stuff online about AoS and it looks like a lot of fun too, so I am looking forward to throwing down with it as well.

As for 8th Edition 40K... I love it. Seriously. I have not had this much fun playing 40K ever. :D

I played a bunch of tactical marines in razorbacks this week, and it wasn't the most creative army, but the bonus points from the battalion detachment were freaking sweet.

For next week, I'm hoping we get enough points/PL for me to break out some Vanguard Vets that I've been working on. I bought a bunch of forgeworld assault marines when I was thinking about making some 30K Blood Angels. I shelved that project for a while, and then 8th Edition made jump packs useful, so I decided to repaint these dudes to serve in The Royal Spiders, my West African marine chapter.

I organized the Vanguards in a flying V/delta formation in this photo, and I just realized that the way I equipped these guys is like the "12 Days of Christmas".

    1. The Sgt. has lightning claws.

    2. Next there are two guys with bolt pistols & power axes.

    3. Followed by three guys with chainswords and storm shields.

    4. And the back row consists of four vets slinging plasma pistols & chainswords.

I did't plan that mathematical progression at all. Weird coincidence. Also, I just realized that I can optimize this unit by giving two of the plasma pistols to the axe-wielders, so I can make two jabronies with only pistols and swords to serve as ablative wounds if I ever need to make a sacrifice play.

Oh well. I am currently feeling lazy, and I also like the mathematical symmetry of this squad, so I'm gonna stay with the current loadout for now. I'll try to build my list around them for next week. Can't wait to see what everyone else is working on!

I am loving those jump packs.
