  1. So not 100% about the game play, but, since I'm interested in getting into playing and not just painting, I figured that some background story would make it more interesting for me. However, there are literally a hundred or more books. I have zero idea where to start. So, for a newb to the warhammer universe, which novels are a good place to start? Specifically fantasy. I'm really not into the futuristic side. At least not yet.
  2. I might be interested in the models! PM me!
  3. Side note, what company is that? Those models are fresh.
  4. I'm gonna just lower the price to $100. Any takers?
  5. Your faces are super clean man. Seriously.
  6. I bought the GW "astrogranite" and was like, [big bad swear word] man, I could make this! Turns out, I can KIND OF make it. It was only my first try though, but, here is the recipe if you're interested (or anyone else) 1-1 ratio of literally any crappy craft store grey in the big plastic bottles to elmers school glue (or any other PVA glue). 1-1-1 ratio of 3 different sand grain sizes. And an amount of the weird powder green flocking used for fake grass. I don't remember what its called but it might as well be powder. I used about the same amount as one of the sand grain sizes. I noticed that the "rocks" in the astrogranite are actually kind of soft. So next time, I'm probably not going to use any sand at all, but maybe shredded styrofoam instead at various levels of shredded (I have a crappy blender I can use). But, the texture above is what you'll get if you follow my suggestions. Cost me $2 or so total in materials. Of course you have to initially buy much more than that (I guess like, $15), but I made enough to fill that astrogranite container probably 10 times. So... obviously this is the better route. The only downside is that it doesn't "stick" to the base as much. You gotta kind of smoosh it down a bit. Get the glue to tack with the base. The large rocks are super simple. Plaster of paris on a baking sheet. After this run, I learned mixing 5% PVA in with it really helps the longevity and integrity of the plaster. Use some plastic wrap on the bottom of your pan so you don't ruin it, plus, it can help with texture, it doesn't need to be smooth. At the halfway dry point, I started using some clay tools to scar the plaster. Let it dry for a day, break it into pieces that fit your basing needs. Boom.
  7. I know. I lied. I didn't upload my goblins. But, here is my most recent miniature I painted. I've been trying to hammer through this age of sigmar pack I bought from Pretre at GG swap meet. This guy is from it.
  8. No thanks on that man. I prefer monsters more than humans/elves. Anyone else interested?
  9. Hey, I'm selling my reaper master series paints so I can afford to try out some other brands. I love the color choices from reaper paints, but I've been reading good things about other brands too. So, I like to try things out and the only real way to do that is to sell these to get the new ones. I do the same thing with musical gear too. Old habits transcend the barriers between hobbies/jobs. It is the $200 set (you can find it on eBay). Has 108 colors. Most have been used extremely little. As in not used at all (especially the blues and greys). The most common used colors will be black, white, the bone colors, and a couple of the reds. The rosy shadow color is used about halfway due to being use to cover a large miniature (maggoth). I'm asking $150 but will consider reasonable offers and/or trades for fantasy miniatures (unpainted but mold lines well cleaned up, or on sprues/unopened).
  10. My days I paint has shifted, so maybe it might work better for some of you since I didn't get any bites last time. My painting evenings are now going to be sunday-wednesday evening (my girl's schedule changed so my days I have to stay at home on dad duty changed as well). If you're interested, hit me up!
  11. Your shading transitions are phenomenal. I'm not there yet, and it infuriates me. These are phenomenal man. And the gemstones. ugh. I definitely need to pick your brain.
  12. Thanks guys. It was my first "large" miniature. Before its just been orcs/goblins/NPCs/PCs sort of thing. Maybe a spider or a demon here or there. But I definitely dig larger miniatures. I'll upload some of my goblins probably tonight or tomorrow.
  13. And forgive the sideways photo. My phone has it the proper direction. I don't know why it got rotated.
  14. I believe this is where we upload finished products. If I'm wrong, direct me there. But, finished this guy up recently. Technically I sort of mixed the miniature pieces up a bit. But, I liked the Puke and so did my GM but I like the teeth of the maggoth lord (the puke is from the other dude, I forget his name). I'll post some of my other mini pics here later. And all other local painters should feel welcome. My whole reason for being here is to find a painting buddy or two.
  15. I actually have one of those lamps myself as well. But I rarely use the magnifying glass part. I just haven't practiced with it enough to control my hands with the increased magnification. I generally move too far!
  16. Thanks to you, I spent way more than I wanted. But 50% off retail is hard to argue with. Thanks man!
  17. I posted in the age of sigmar section as well, but I know some of you guys are very one or the other. Tuesday-Friday nights I'm on dad duty while my girl works graveyard. I like to paint during those times, but gets lonely by myself! Anyone have any interest in coming over and painting miniatures any of those nights? I don't play warhammer, but I use their miniatures (I play GURPS fantasy). I live near Gresham in SE Portland. And just like I said in the Sigmar post, I'm new to the forums so if it's the wrong section, let me know. I couldn't find a good actively read section for my posts (the artificer section is pretty inactive).
  18. I have been fighting the desire to get into building/painting my own terrain for tabletop fantasy RPG use but man. This stuff makes me want to. Different era style, but still looks great.
  19. Of course I would forget that. Near Gresham. 182nd and Powell basically.
  20. I don't play warhammer. But... I buy the miniatures and paint them for my GURPS game (Saturday's). I get super bored/lonely always painting by myself. The other guys don't enjoy painting as much. My partner works graveyard and I paint when the kids are in bed. Sooooo who wants to come paint with me? Generally Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings is when I'm painting after about 8 pm (except Wednesday, which I get back from band practice at about 10:30). Also. I'm new to this forum. If this is the wrong section, please direct me to the appropriate one.
