  1. Jenni and talked about this after our game and she basically suggested the same thing: have the opponent place the barrels. This would presumeably make them harder to get to and might provide more opportunities for conflict. We were going to run a second game doing just that but ran out of time. The rest of your suggestions sound good as well. I like the idea of scoring by having a model touching a barrel at the end of the game as it adds another level of risk vs reward choices to the scenario though it does kind of heavily favor the person who has the final Turn of the game. Of course there are official scenarios that do as well.
  2. I would like to give an official ITS a try at some point but I don't think I'm ready for that just yet. I'm surprised no one has called you out on this Week 2 cut and paste job in the OP: So Jeremy and I will be there on the 8th for Week 3 provided he can make it; if not I should be there regardless.
  3. Week 2's list: Ordo Fall Escalation Week 2 ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 9 1 5 ASUKA KISARAGI Lieutenant Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Assault Pistol, Knife. (0 | 27) ARAGOTO Spitfire / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 26) ARAGOTO Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) ARAGOTO Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 19) YOJIMBO Contender, Nanopulser, Smoke Grenades, CrazyKoalas (2) / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 21) KEMPEI (Chain of Command) Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, CCW, Electric Pulse. (0 | 21) KEISOTSU Combi Rifle + Light Grenade Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 13) KEISOTSU Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 9) KEISOTSU (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) KEISOTSU (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) 1.5 SWC | 175 Points Open in Infinity Army For this week's scenario I decided to take as many bikes as I had and was able to assemble in time with the plan being to push up the board and get to the barrels as fast as possible. JSA bikes are particularly nice because the Aragoto are only Impetuous, not Extremely Impetuous, and they are also Regular. JSA bikes do not get smoke, however. But we do have Yojimbo, who does. I only played one game this week against Jenni's Nomads. She had a Mobile Brigada Lt., Intruder with Multi Sniper Rifle, Zero Minelayer, Daktari, 2 Alguacils (1 Paramedic), 3 Morlocks, and an infiltrated Camo Marker that never revealed (another Zero? or possibly a Bandit). I won the Initiative Roll and chose to take the first Turn this time. I was able to take out all 5 of my barrels in the first Turn, as was Jenni. At that point we didn't know whether to bother continuing since we were tied for Victory Points and there was no way to achieve anymore so we decided to call it after the first Round. The only casualties were one Morlock and Yojimbo's Crazy Koalas (both of which exploded against the previously mentioned Morlock). I had fun with the bike list but am not sure how they'd do in a more traditional scenario. Will have to give it a shot sometime. In the meantime I need to work on a list for Week 3's scenario. I made a special order on Monday specifically for it (and also because they were like, some of the few JSA models I hadn't already bought at this point) that arrived today and I'm hoping to get them assembled before Sunday. Either way I'm at a bit of a loss trying to come up with a list tailored to the scenario; I don't have nearly as many Doctor/Paramedic or Forward Observer options as I'm used to with Haqq or even Nomads.

  5. So! For the Ordo Fall Escalation League I have decided to set aside my Nomads and Haqqislam and start a Japanese Sectorial Army. I really like the look and fluff for the JSA and am excited to try a Close Combat focused faction. I haven't used Close Combat much with my Nomads or Haqq and am determined to familiarize myself with the CC rules more and to see if I can adapt my playstyle to rely more on Close Combat. This was my list for Week 1: Ordo Fall Escalation Week 1 ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 7 ONIWABAN Boarding Shotgun, Nanopulser / Pistol, Monofilament CCW. (0 | 41) DOMARU Lieutenant Chain Rifle, E/M Grenades / Pistol, E/M CCW. (0 | 25) DOMARU Chain Rifle, E/M Grenades / Pistol, DA CCW. (0 | 26) RAIDEN (Minelayer, X Visor) Heavy Rocket Launcher, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 21) KEISOTSU HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 17) KEISOTSU (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) KEISOTSU (Forward Observer) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) 2.5 SWC | 150 Points Open in Infinity Army I had no idea what I'd be facing and wanted to take a fairly straightforward list to make it easier on myself and any newer players I might be paired up against. I played two games, the first against Evan's Merovingians and the second against Aaron's vanilla PanO. I lost both games, mostly due to some bad decisions on my part. I did have some poor dice rolls and both my opponents' luck seemed to be fairing much better. But I can only blame so much on that. I feel like I made less bad decisions in my game against Aaron but there were still some things I should have done that I didn't and things I shouldn't have done that I did. I won the Initiative Roll for both games but didn't choose to take the first Turn either time when I probably should have. In the first week's scenario in particular, having that first Turn really allowed both of my opponents to occupy the "hill" first and forced me to come to them. I used Hidden Deployment for my Oniwaban in both games but didn't utilize his Superior Infiltration against Evan and ended up placing him poorly where I didn't get any use out of it or the Oniwaban at all. And there were at least a few instances where I probably should have opted to push into CC instead of shooting but I'm still not totally in that CC mindset and got overexcited to shoot with template weapons that would hit multiple targets but ultimately didn't end up doing as much damage as I probably could have with Close Combat. I'm hoping Week 2 will fair better and I will make less bad decisions. But I have already decided on a pretty specific list based on the scenario which will either do really well or really poorly. So it's possible I've already made a bad decision before the games have even begun! We shall see how it goes and I'll be back here at some point to detail the results!
  6. Jeremy and I should be there around 3! Edit: Jeremy will not be coming this week.
  7. Wow, 18 people? Crazy. Also fwiw, Evan was right the second time above. It's Brandon, not Brenden!
  8. Thanks to Evan and Aaron for the games! So, a rough first two games for my JSA. I will probably start one of those blog thread thingies this week detailing my experience a bit more. I had a lot of fun though and am looking forward to next week!
  9. It's a secret! Nah, I'm taking a break from Nomads and Haqq and am starting up a Japanese Sectorial Army. Jeremy is finally adding Shasvastii to his Combined Army and will be playing them as a Sectorial for the league. So not only new Sectorials but completely different playstyles than what we are used to. Should be fun!
  10. Looking forward to this weekend! Jeremy and I will be there with our shiny new Sectorials we've started up for this.
  11. Great! Thank you for all the info!
  12. More questions: I noticed last year Lieutenants and Command Tokens were not used in the first few weeks. I see your note in the OP about Command Tokens so I'm assuming they'll be in use, just not for strategic purposes? So they'll still be allowed for Cube/Engineer rerolls, Coordinated Orders, and forming/reforming Fireteams? And should our list include a Lieutenant, or no? Any other list restrictions like SWC or are there any rules we will not be playing with to start to help out newer players or will all rules be in play from the beginning?
  13. TheWarStore.com has filled up their Infinity Bargain Basement section. 50% off MSRP. $6.95 flat rate shipping. http://www.thewarstore.com/VIKInfinityBasement.html Lots of Tohaa and Combined and a selection of stuff for most other factions. 14. We stopped by the booth right around 3pm but didn't see you there and we ended up leaving shortly after. Sorry we missed you and best of luck to your daughter and you with the rest of the con!
  15. Jeremy and I will be there Saturday. We'll stop by and chat if you're not too busy!

    ITS Season 9

Good to know! A further question then - so, more specifically, when the weekly game night thread goes up and whoever makes the post throws out a scenario for the week, should it be assumed games would include the "always on" season rules or only if stated? The Extras, like SoF, I'm assuming would only be when stated but I wasn't sure about the rules that are "official" for the season (Ironclad, Reduced Combat Groups, CBLs).

    ITS Season 9

<3 Tomcats So being relatively new to Ordo and community gaming, how are "always on" seasonal rules like TAGs having Fatality L1, single combat group lists' immunity to order pool reduction, and CBL usage treated? Are they applicable only when playing Season 9 scenarios (granted, likely most games) or to all games played while Season 9 is active?
  18. I did manage to get a few decent sets but you scored the last of one of the sets I really wanted. ::shakes fist::
  19. For 28-32mm stuff there were 2 boxes of Barricades @ $25 each, 1 Blast Door Accessories @ $24, 1 Modular Scenery Starter Set @ $68, and 2 Modular Scenery Corridor Sets (can't recall the price on these) when I left around 2pm. Prices listed are with the 50% discount already.
  20. Sorry for the last minute update but it turns out Jeremy and I will not be able to make it this weekend. I hope everyone else has fun today and we'll try again later this month!

    The Infinity Run

I'd been holding out on picking up an Asawira hoping they would be getting an update soon but I finally broke down and bought one on my last big online order. So yes, between you painting your's and me buying one they will almost certainly release a new one soon. At least we probably have until sometime next year since they've already announced releases through December.
  22. So Jeremy and I were planning to make it out this weekend but now we're hearing it's supposed to be 98-100 soooooo I think we're going to play it by ear and see how the weather goes. How was it yesterday?
  23. Regarding Fatality, maybe the +1 damage doesn't so much represent the weapon doing *more* damage but the user's ability to cause damage that would more likely result in death. Like, it's harder to save against a 14 than a 13 so there's a higher chance of dying, or taking a Wound. Basically what you're saying regarding L2, but I can kind of see it working as the reasoning for L1 as well. Though, as you suggested, you'd think that would mean a profile with Fatality would have a fairly high BS representing their skill. It is interesting that there's basically a mini Merc sectorial list in the Outrage Missions pdf. People are speculating that maybe it's a test/teaser for the actual Merc sectorial. I don't mind the idea of a separate Merc faction as there are some large mercenary companies detailed in the fluff. What I've never been a fan of are Mercs (or any troop types, really - looking at you, most REMs) that every faction can get. I think it dilutes the uniqueness of each faction and the shared troop type. I like that most Mercs in Infinity are limited to certain factions or sectorials with the reasoning usually supported by fluff.
  24. X-Wing has two core sets: the standard (red labelled box) and The Force Awakens (blue labelled box). Buying two of either one of them is unnecessary but it is helpful to get one of each. You get different ships and different upgrade cards in each Core. Also the damage decks are slightly different. Otherwise the rest of the content is the same so that's where you can get your second set of dice, range rulers, etc. Two Armada starters is also kind of unnecessary unless you want the second set of dice, range rulers, etc. It does give you double the ships but the ships that come in the Armada starter are sold individually as well and they come with different upgrade cards than the Core. So it's probably better to get one Core and then, if you want more options, buy the single releases of the ships that come in the Core. You'll probably want an extra set of dice and possibly range rulers but those are all sold separately as well. A second Armada Core would probably only be worth it if you could find it cheap. My friend and I have played both and enjoy both for different reasons. X-Wing is excellent at representing small fighter dogfighting and Armada is great for large scale capital ship battles. I think X-Wing is easier to learn and a game is usually quicker than Armada, at least from my experience. If you're looking for a game to introduce to non-gamers, I think X-Wing is the safer bet. Another bonus that X-Wing has over Armada is that there are 3 fully fleshed out factions at this point - Rebels, Imperials, and Scum (bounty hunters and other non-Rebel/Imperial organizations like Black Sun) whereas Armada only has the main two. X-Wing was also released before Armada, so there is more available for it and I believe it is usually the more popular game in communities. The only caveat might be that X-Wing suffers from power creep somewhat. As new ships are released they will sometimes introduce new abilities or maneuvers that are included with the new ships while the old ships are (up to this point anyway) not updated with any of these new abilities. I don't think Armada has this problem yet, or maybe it's not as noticeable. Also, premeasuring movement during the Planning Phase (this is when each player secretly determines what kind of movement each ship is going to perform for that turn) is not allowed in X-Wing. I believe premeasuring is allowed in Armada at any time, but it's been awhile since I've played.

    The Infinity Run

That was pretty brutal. But it's all good. He is used to having less troops, though I don't think I've hit him with quite that large of a force... yet. We have played quite a bit (2-3 games most weekends for almost a year now) but only against each other so he is more attuned to my lists and playstyle. And, for as long as I've known him (and that is a long time at this point), Jeremy has had crap rolls. The dice do not favor him that often. It's unfortunate, but that's how it is. He had fun though, so no worries.
