Crimson Fists Leak

Faeit 212 has it ahead of the White Dwarf hitting the newsstands. Looks like a lot of fun... and kinda makes me regret having painted my guys yellow.

Crimson Fists rules:
New Chapter Tactics: +1 to hit against units with more models than your attacking unit

Warlord Traits:
Tenacious Opponent: Same as Codex
Refuse to Die: Get back up on a 4+ with d3 wounds the first time you die
Stoic Defender: All Infantry, Bikers and Dreadnoughts gain Defenders of Humanity If they are within 6" of the Warlord. If they already had it, they count as 2 models per 1 model.

Stratagems:
Bolter Drill: Same as Codex. Goes well with their new Chapter Tactic.
A Hated Foe: Target Unit rerolls all wounds against Ork units.
Slay the Tyrant: Target Unit adds +1 to hit against Characters

The new No Matter the Odds Chapter Tactic* means that every single Crimson Fists Character -- from the Chapter Master down to the dang Apothecary -- is going to be hitting on 2's in mêlée and hitting on 2's when shooting, unless they're targeting a single model.

The Primaris Captain with Powerfist and Plasma Gun is going to be really great with this, as the `fists to hit penalty will be cancelled out (keeping him at a 2+) and he'll be able to Overcharge his plasma pistol with near impunity. Tactical Squads, Devastator Squads, and Hellblaster Squads are probably going to be using a lot of plasma too.

* Add 1 to hit rolls for attacks made by this unit that target an enemy unit that contains at least twice as many models as their own. For the purposes of this ability, Crimson Fists Dreadnoughts count as 5 other models.

If you read the link, it's +1 to hit against units with TWICE as many models as your unit, not just *more* models.  It says your CF Dreadnoughts count as 5 models for this ability.

So even with combat squads, you still need a target with 10+ models to get any benefit. Impressive on your characters, but it's less effective against the targets that you really need a +1 to hit mod with.

Yes, but take a look at the wording for the Combat Squads rule. I'm quoting the Tactical Squad's entry, but its essentially identical for everybody else:

Quote

Combat Squads: Before any models are deployed at the start of the game, a Tactical Squad containing 10 models may be split into two units, each containing 5 models.

Now compare that to the No Matter the Odds rule:

Quote

Add 1 to hit rolls for attacks made by this unit that target an enemy unit that contains at least twice as many models as their own. For the purposes of this ability, Crimson Fists Dreadnoughts count as 5 other models.

When the Tactical Squad unit invokes the Combat Squads rule before deployment, it ceases to be one unit of 10 models and becomes two units of 5 models. So you you don't have to worry about their "original" size, just there current size... Yeah, it won't help them much when shooting at anything with 9 or fewer models in it, but it's not like Space Marines have bad shooting to begin with: 3+ is still 3+! Where it will be fantastic at clearing out light to medium infantry mobs, like Conscripts, Pox Walkers, Termagants, and (of course) Orks.

And if you are going for another Character, and thus unable to benefit from No Matter the Odds, you can always just drop Slay the Tyrant for much the same effect!
