Dark Trainer
I couldn't wait until tomorrow, here's the mission for Week 4! Mission URL: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1auqdJg4kgbxK3LswJSO_MD9zjZ3NhtFi5g5Rr3DY6-w League week 4, Mission 4, Contact Lost NARRATIVE As the dust settled, there was a quiet peace. That was when we heard it...men crying out in pain as if they were dying. I heard one man scream, “I haven't lost an arm, brother. It's right over there!” When the smoke cleared, we could see it. Creatures, climbing out of the crater where the altar once stood. It appears some sort of ritual has unleashed Chaos onto the planet. We were overrun and forced to retreat. What do we do now sir? I don’t know soldier, all contact with command has been lost and the enemy are doubtless advancing towards our position. Secure sites of tactical import to re-establish communications with all due haste and engage any hostile forces encountered, with extreme prejudice! THE ARMIES Each player selects a 1000pt Battle-forged army with no more than 2 detachments. THE BATTLEFIELD Create a 48”x48” table (use 6x4 table if doing more than 2 players) with proper 40k terrain density. Place 6 objective markers (numbered 1 to 6) on the table. The players then roll off and, starting with the winner, alternate placing objective markers until all 6 have been placed not within 12” of another marker or 6” of a table edge. DEPLOYMENT (one on one, two on two, or four man free for all) Use Vanguard Strike deployment (main rulebook pg 217). The player who placed the 6th objective picks deployment zone. Their opponent uses the other deployment zone. The players then alternate deploying their units, one at a time, starting with the player who did not pick their deployment zone. A player’s models must be set up within their own deployment zone (unless special rules allow otherwise). Continue setting up units until both sides have set up their army. FIRST TURN The player who finished setting up their army first can choose to take the first or second turn. If they decide to take the first turn, their opponent can roll a dice; on a roll of 6, they manage to seize the initiative, and they get the first turn instead! BATTLE LENGTH Tactical objectives: Before the start of the game, choose one tactical objective per player. Starting turn 1, each player generates one tactical objective at the start of their turn (maximum of 6 tactical objectives). Immediately pick a new tactical objective if the one selected is impossible for your army. Temporary Comms Uplink: A player may choose to use 3 command points at the start of their turn to generate one additional tactical objective (as stated above). Insubordination: At the end of a player’s turn (after scoring completed objectives that turn), that player may choose to abandon a tactical objective and pick a new one. At the end of battle round 5, roll a D6. On a 3+, the game continues. At the end of battle round 6, roll a D6. On roll of 4+, the game continues. The battle automatically ends at the end of battle round 7. VICTORY CONDITIONS At the end of the game, the player who has scored the most victory points is the winner. If both players have the same number of victory points, the game is a draw. Victory points are achieved for the following: Objectives secured: At the end of the game, score the victory points earned from completing tactical objectives. Slay the Warlord: If the enemy Warlord has been slain during the battle, you score 1 victory point. Second Strike: You score 1 victory point if any units from your opponent’s army were destroyed during the first OR second battle round. Linebreaker: Score 1 victory point if any friendly units are within the enemy deployment zone. LEAGUE POINTS Win = 5 points, Draw = 3 points, Loss = 1 point Painting points: Newly painted model (1pt per, 3pts max) OR unit/vehicle/monstrous creature? (5 pts, 5pts max) Sportsmanship points: Update your thread on the Ordo forums tracking your missions & progress +1pt Did you bring food for the league? +1pt Provide Matt (a.k.a. Dark Trainer) feedback about what you’d like to see in the league via PM +1 Did you laugh or grin during the match or crave a rematch? Lyraeus
So maelstrom cards? We using chapter approved where we can remove 6 cards?

It's from the main book, however if your opponent is ok with it, I'd say that's fair. What page is that on in Chapter approved?

What page is that on in Chapter approved? Might be in Vigilus. I can't find it in Chapter Approved. You mean Tactical Objectives as cards right or the ones in the BRB? What happens if what we get is impossible?
WestRider
Just a couple of comments on naming. I'd call Insubordination "Improvisation" instead in this situation. They're cut off, orders are unclear, those ones seem suspect and possibly idiotic, they must be wrong. I think I'd also call Second Strike something more like "Early Start", given how broad it is. It says in the mission, immediately pick a new one under tactical objective section.

It's in the actual maelstrom of war missions themselves under the "Refined Strategy" rule
Guest
Says we "choose" tactical objectives. So is it not random? Are we drawing from a random deck, or are we picking which one we want?

I believe intent is to have 1 tactical objective of your choice and then random from there
