so i decided to drop the other one as 'starting aleph' doesnt really apply anymore and i cant seem to change the title lol(tips appreciated if anyone knows!).  so ive been researching the factions a lot lately and wanted to jot down my thoughts a bit.

first off, i generally select my faction/sectional to play based off a number of things.  i generally like to grab something zero/very few people are playing in my meta(which generally correlates to the game itself, but not always... example being we have a bunch of skaven in our whfb meta and its not that popular worldwide).  i also like to play with a unique play style that i dont see as a 'stereotypical from the internet style'.  this is more so people have a pseudo enjoyment from playing against me as something that is a unique experience.  little bit of ego and a little bit of 'im sorry i like being weird!' lol.  so researching between applications(btw there is a distinct possibility i might be moving back to the MW if i dont find a job within a few weeks) ill give a bit of rundown on my thoughts, likes/dislikes, etc of factions/sectionals:

  • aleph-  obviously i think highly of this faction.  i like their elite values, lots of weapons on each model and style.  i like artificial intelligence and remotes a lot so its kinda why i picked this faction.  the models are super cool looking as well.  their weakness is really that there's a lot of points in 'gimmicks' as i would like to say.  they rely on pseudo second wounds(NWI) and lots of mimetism/ODD.  so things that generally arent 'superb' choices like multi rifle msv2 vs say a spitfire are actually insanely good against aleph.  also mines obviously.  and most good opponents will have ways to deal with aleph 'gimmicks' and if they dont they will after playing against them lol. they also dont have a lot of long range smash face weapons like other factions so they have to get closer to you which generic aleph is not great in CC.  aleph has very good specialists and a lot of variety in them along with elite speed which i think makes them quite good in ITS.  the problem is surviving the first turn which is something ive been working on lately with some decent success(after getting pounded in my first ITS event i havent lost since... albiet mostly due to luck lol).  my main turn in fortune i think has been dropping the asura for more models and tactically being more defensive first turn.  which means not moving my TR bot. make your opponent shoot at it and not have it die to a lucky crit ARO to allow your opponent to 'rambo' you the following turn... i like dakini paramedics for objective grabbing, garuda/naga/proxy/zayin make my opponent think twice about going up and killing me easier targets.  devas are there for running up and taking out single problem things.  mostly i just like that each piece in aleph can really cause issues for your opponent and they have to think wisely about what to take out.
  • steel phalanx-  i have most of the models but i think this was just a contrast of my style.  they are more reliant on singular 'gimmicks' than generic and are not as sound in specialists as generic aleph.  that saying, first time you play against steel will be ROUGH lol. unlike generic, steel can get up and personnel and decapitate even knights in CC... they have three link team options being myrms, thors and the newly added dactyls.  they CANNOT do the 5 man link which stinks cause that means no +3BS but they can do multiple links!  myrms are the most played i think and rightfully so.  they have smoke and ODD which is just nasty but that makes them VERY suseptible to msv troops cause they make them essentially ARM2 expensive light infantry(unless you have an officer with zero vis smoke!).  they also do not have hmg/sniper/panzer/etc so they have to move up the board or they are just wasting their points.  the key with them is bringing an officer to do all the dirty work.  the obvious one is pheonix to give you a ranged weapon to pour on your opponent while moving up.  i also like machaon cause he gives you zero vis, expert healer and a specialist to grab objectives when(it will happen) your link breaks.  thors i think are great but i have yet to master how to use them.  they are a strange animal in that they have defensive characteristics but no long range weapons.  i like thrasymedes with his ODD and light rockets, but he really needs to get up close and personnal and he doesnt have NWI so you have to be more careful with him.  i will revisit using them cause i do think they are interesting with their 360 sight things have to stay the heck away from them when linked up.  dactyls, i havent tried but look kinda 'meh' to me.  linked specialists with panzers does sound fun but they are higher cost than knights for pete's sakes for a single wound thats not very tough to kill!  would be fun to run a probot with them and just unload all the time for giggles.  i have yet to run achilles/ajax with the 'throw them at my opponent and see what happens' technique but i will soon i think.  i think the model i like the most so far is scylla.  she as aspects of devas but with TWO devabots possible.  and the devabots become repeaters lol.  she has a shotgun as well. HI/TAGs have to essentially stay the heck away from her.  and she has what i like the most about her with a huge board coverage due to the repeater/flame bots.  she is a single wound for 37 points but played tactically i think she's a nightmare for many armies.  so smoke fun really is the common tactic with steel and i just think i would get bored of that which is why im not playing it atm....
  • pan-o- army i have played by far the most amount of games against lol.  personally i feel this army is the reason for ITS due to their pathetic specialists lol.  cause if it was just straight 'murder each other' i think this faction has all the tools to just crush most opponents.  mag knights are a knightmare(see what i did there...) with their low cost/high dodge/arm/nasty CC+guns.  then the different higher point knights really have some neat abilities to cause issues.  then they have excellent cheerleaders and ability to hide their Lt.  the high BS per point really makes them hurt you in their active turn.  they will hit you and with their strong guns more than likely kill you.  reading through them, their TO troops are AMAZING.  I think whenever i face a swiss guard hmg the first time im just going to get murdered lol.  crocs are awesome.  their TAG assortment is incredible.  probably the thing i like the most about them.. wish they had models for all of them!  think what prevented me from going straight pan-o is right now i feel there are a ton of people playing it. so ill just go to straight sectorials as they do have a few:
  • military orders-ive played against this sectorial i think more than any other thanks to playing rudra a bit and someone else at the tournament.  so knights... and now they can link to get rid of the main disadvantage which is 'control'.  or they can go cheap, let the knights blitz you and link fusiliers and give them bs15 with one of their long range nightmares.  order sergs are also very good but a bit more expensive yet you get more tools.  id probably just go with the fusiliers.  although a spec sergeant TO specialist is something thats amazing for the cost of 27 stinking points.  crusader is 'meh' except i like the multi rifle/flame version for some nice diversity choice.  father knights are just incredible HI.  they are so versatile and tough to kill.  i like the +1swc joan of arc.  great choice for Lt i think as she is tough to kill and can still punch you in the face.  all the knights have their uses but they are not cheap so meshing well is probably important.  peanut uses the holoprojector knight and that is sooo hard to deal with!  the TAG is pretty cool but alas no models :( military orders reminds me of steel but with better guns and less gimmicks(true 2W, no ODD/NWI reliance).  they are more solid all around i feel.. obviously just my opinion there lol
  • neoterra-  i dont think ive played against it or researched it well enough but they have auxilia along with deva so they can bring the flame fun.  they also have access to all the nasty TO in hexas/swiss.   aquila is what i wish the asura was with the hmg and heck a lower price.  linkable bolts is a unique thing to them but they are quite expensive for ARM2 W1.  the UHLANS TAG is super cool.  camo and a feurbach for ARO is pretty sweet along with BS15.  also has access to garudas which personally i like a lot.  this is a pretty cool faction but i wasnt really feeling the fluff.  feel like high elve arrogance lol.
  • acontecimento-  the shock army!  i just picked up a few models from them so EVENTUALLY i will go with them.  im waiting for some updates and well a freaking job.  chose them cause i liked the fluff and apparently it is the least used army in infinity lol.  i can see why when i went through them.  have some limitations in comparison to pan-o and the other sects.  the line troopers are 'regulars'.  they have stats similar to fusiliers but with some interesting options that really help negatives in the faction.  the sensor is crucial.  camo will give this sectorial a hard time since their highest is msv1.  also a minelayer so helps them play defensively as a link(which i think is the way to go..) and also plays well with the sapper sniper.  5 man link makes that sapper -6 to hit and BS15 for 2B ARO.  thats pretty sick for a defensive response.  Nagas can play with this army which i think is crucial cause its the only camo unit and can aid in bull rushing you.  with a Bagh mari sniper minelayer then you have a really nice defensive area.  you can even play 'guess which is a mine and which is the naga' game to a perfection that you can do probably better than aleph.  i dont think ill play any of the other bagh mari but i really dig that sniper(peanut plays that as well lol).  as for my favorite pieces: peacemaker, guarda de assaulto and the TAG Lt.  peacemaker is awesome and most pan-o players know why.  heavy flames and a decent other gun option and FAST!! remote with good BS and weapons make it a great rambo bot.  the guarda is the same way except more expensive and, well, better versatility.  vero vis smoke launcher to run up with.  their knight is the weakest choice i think for knights, but does mesh well with this sectional.  you can put it next to the peacemaker and bots for command token blitzkrieg.  the TAGs are really sweet.  id use the special character one which im going to mod the generic TAG i just bought.  has climbing plus, mimetism and mines LOL just seems too silly not to play!  the other TAG is the dragoes which is the HRMC bad boy.  oh i forgot the sikh!  they are religious drop troops that are OK but not great.  probably best to use the character for CoC or the hacker for ITS.  this sectional although limited i think a bit, it does seem like a really freaking fun one to play and master.
  • haqq- i like haqq a lot.  i think what prevented me from playing them is that my terrible paint will REALLY show with haqq.  this faction just has all the tools.  so much diversity in choices its almost overwhelming lol.  i have yet to play against them which is a shame!  think some people in our meta will be picking them up soon so im excited to play against them as they are one of the strongest ITS factions.  lower bs than pan-o but way better specialists and doctor plus FTW!  dont have many high tech guns but versatile amount on each troop.  they have impersonators, infiltrators, mechanized deployment and camo.  they just look to take up a ton of board space and get objectives with ease.  al hawwa with a FO camo for 21 points...amazing.  then they have smashface HI with strong weapons.  dogged combat jump...! motorcycle madness... just a super diverse faction that looks a ton of fun to play against/for
  • bahram- obviously havent played against but link teams... ghulam are decent but man muyibs linked looks awesome.  spitfire or heavy rockets with x-visor and 5 man links... holy #@%$ thats amazing.  that is just straight up scary.  they also have the scary dogged drop troops and camo plus CC specialists.  pretty decent...
  • khalqi- haloprojector drop troop?  cool but irregular might be frustrating.. has Haris ability which allows for multiple links so pretty cool.  ikhol L3 and NWI on odaliques with link would be nasty to play against.  some really hard hitting HI.  access to some cool mercs.  if i did a 3rd sectional and learned how to freaking paint this would be my choice.  super solid all around.
  • ariadna- really frustrating army to play against lol.  so many troops and camo.  not high tech but super cheap.  some really good CC specialists that can pay back their points by magnitudes lol.  lots of irregular and impetuous.  i definitely would not call ariadna a beginners choice army.  seems like you have to really get a hang of how to play them but once you do they are painful for your enemy!
  • frenchies- really fun to play against.  peanut runs them with missile FO tactics and it works well.  chasseurs are what sticks out to me as being great in this section.
  • 'merica- obviously getting tired of typing at this point lol.  lots of dogged and camo with some decent guns for ariadna's lack they seem to have a bunch of firepower with flamethrowers being key.   minutemen stick out to me along with rangers and foxtrots.  of couse if i see this sectional, look out for van zant lol.
  • scots-  i was thinking about this sectional but just knew i would have to invest a bit to get them going kinda threw me back.  order spam holy cow lol.  and lots of good CC specialists.  also smoke and run tactics seem to be key.
  • combined army- kinda like aleph in a lot of ways but also quite different.  ive only played against them once(Than at red castle) and it was probably the biggest spanking ive received lol.  charontids, UGH, just give the asura a hmg please I promise the little girl can handle that big gun!  i think what i like the most is the actual EI pieces and umbra legates.  skiavoros idk i just dont think i could invest 65 points in something that just has to take one shot from a multi rifle.  but I actually really like anathematics.  TO sepsitor or hacker with wip 16 is freaking scary.  seem to have more firepower than aleph but they also are somewhat even pricier.  plasma and sepsitor, ugh that will just murder me the first time i face them.  have what looks like the best TAG in the game in the avatar.  they will seemingly never be in l.o.l.  tough to kill and automedikits instead of NWI like aleph.  some pretty nasty CC specialists.   they do have a ton of mimetism/gimmicks like aleph.  and their TR bot is probably the best one...
  • morat- idk this sectional is unfortunately probably my least favorite.  'meh' BS for the price tag.  also the look of space monkeys just doesnt appeal to me.  a LOT of good CC specialists.  makes sense as thats what morats do!  daturazi look like myrmidons except maybe even better.  no ODD but mimetism with smoke and MA4.  those things get into CC and you can kiss whatever it is goodbye.  hungries do look like fun to run.  your opponent has to choose wisely what to kill thats running at them cause whatever gets through will eat you lol.
  • shasvastii- really cool sectional imo.  all about stealth and surviving.  automedikits/camo galore.  they also have to all take 2W to be taken off the board.  speculo killers steal the spotlight with impersonation plus. i really think this faction would be fun to play.  would require you to know a lot about your opponent i feel as using a speculo killer to kill the lieutenant seems ideal.  someday i WILL be playing these guys... someday lol.
  • yu jing- love this faction(see a theme lol?).  i would just rock out with the kuang shi.  they are hilarious.  Tiger soldiers stand out as an extremely scary if not the scariest drop troop out there with BS13 and mimetism.  daofei are a scary camo HI troop that has high BS and good guns which im surprised i have yet to see.  Hac Tao are VERY amazing and have tons of tools to go with their BS14 TO.  executive order as well... BRUTAL!  and then there's the MSV2 hsien.  seriously they have to have some of the best HI in the game.  although none are cheap, but whats nice about yu jing is they DO have very cheap chearleaders to feed those nasty HI.  then there's wu ming and shang ji which have similar cheaper stats but different loadouts.  guijia are your elite multi hmg heavy flame tag.  similar stats to the Marut but 30 points cheaper, BS14 and no other bonuses along with being manned.  the lu duan is my fave remote.  holoprojector shenanigans with mk12 and heavy flames.  super good for its points and nakedpanda made my eyes go wide when he ran it down at me once.  rui shi is also interesting for an REM choice.  has a spitfire and msv2 along with being a repeater and 6-4 speed.  that seems like it would serve quite a nice role in an army!
  • ISS- think i would spam kuang shi and have a control device. just seems so much fun lol.  plus they do have regular orders so they are cheap.  its a shame the monks arent in this sectional cause then you could run smoke alongside them for protection or something.  wu ming stick out to me as something that id like for links.  although the celestial guard smoke with hsien peek-a-boo is pretty fun ala nakedpanda lol.
  • JSA- thing that sticks out to me is motorcycles and oniwabin.  oni are SCARY.  especially if your opponent knows your leiutenant you are essentially screwed lol.  alot of good CC specialists or exploders.  might be funny just to run haramaki or damaru across the table and then break the link and have them run at your opponent...
  • nomads- really interesting faction.  i really like their REMs and especially sputnik.  really darn good specialists and reverends stick out with their point for point just being solid especially the custodier.  zeros are one of my favorites in the game.  id run 3 lol.  them combined with intruders is a really nasty camo spam.  glad that both are not available in EACH sectional or man nomads would be sooo good.  die morlock are hilarious and deadly.  sin eaters are scary with mimetism, high bs and really good loadouts.  tomcats make amazing objective grabbers and really solid loadouts i think.
  • corregidor- linked mobile brigada or algualciles.  brigada link just is frightening lol.  i would be scared [big bad swear word]less seeing that across the board... tomcats and intruders as well.  oh and linkable wildcats have heavy rockets with bs13.  the price tag is super cheap for it as well.... gecko is funny cause most HI have better stats but man its pretty cheap!
  • bakunin- has a merc doc called avicenna that has doc plus.  she's also super fast and has NWI.  kinda reminds me of sophotects a bit.  has all the reverends so all the goodies in that department along with clockmakers.  of course i love zeros.  moderators are dirt cheap link.  riot grrls are the HI link option for decent price but are not as scary imo as the options in corregidor.  but the reverend moira plus healer link looks pretty nasty.  lizards are probably the scarier tag imo.  spec shots from a heavy grenade launcher... YIKES! man both sectionals are rock solid i think.
  • tohaa- viral ammo and pseudo 2 wounds.  this faction is the reason for always bringing the flames lol.  no offensive hacking but the entire faction is like a sectional so they can go link bezerk.  that will be scary as heck to face against the first time!  auxiliars are REALLY cool REM-esque things.  nikoul stick out to me as being a huge sniper threat with viral and sapper.  can take down HI in one shot!  makaul have impetuous CC specialist smoke shenanigans AND a heavy flamethrower.  that stands out to me along with a regular order for decent price.  Igao make you want to stay away from their camo markers lol.  clipsos have TO minelayers for 25 stinking points.  aleph cant even have a regular camo for that WOW.  ectos are the scary HI links with viral guns and high BS.  will be a learning experience when i face them lol.

so that's just my browsing thoughts of each faction while doing 'homework' on each.  learned a lot.  obviously I may be wrong or people have differing  views.  please feel free to post your thoughts!  ill use this as my 'thought' catalogue, paint, and ACTUALLY do BR eventually.  I need to take pics during games...

Basically, AI (ALEPH) and EI (CA) have them because they're both, like, SO intelligent! :P

And yes, as Peanut says - you're not approved to move away. Sorry! :)

so a new preview is up... and its the doctor dactyl bro!  model looks sweet(looks like a futuristic medic to me!), just like acmon and the girl dactyl I really like the models(I have the girl).  as for the statline, the more I think about it cause I keep forgetting dogged... ya know its actually quite good for the price.  2 breaker pistols, adhesive launcher(this is new to aleph from these models) and nimbus grenades along with a combi.  stacked with gear to deal with things!  and not a bad price the more I think about it.  acmon has a panzer(new to aleph) and engineer dactyl can take a flammenspear(also new).  I think my initial reaction of 'meh' is changing to 'ok these might be ideal in ITS for steel'.  regardless I think steel is happy to get an engineer and a cheaper option for a doc(although I love machaon) is also nice.  I might try it eventually...

In the October blog from the studio, I saw this little blurb...

"A new screenshot on the Carlos Torres’ screen lets me peak into Javier Ureña’s work. It is huge, massive, orange and is stepping on a Seraph. The new Guijia promises to be the biggest thing ever to come out of this studio. A new incarnation of “chicken legs”. “Non era sen tempo” says Carlos Torres in Galician. And it is a big truth, “it was about time”, because the Guijia is one of the oldest sculpts of the catalog."

So, it'll be even bigger than the Avatar? Nice. And I love the image of Guija stepping on a Seraph sounds hilarious for some reason. LOL

so rudra and i got a 300 game in today!  his guys seemed to be shooting like the vogons from hitchikers!  although they seemed to laugh off most of the bullets shot at them... strange two-sided dice there!   so i played my 'typical' 300 list nowadays.  we didnt play a mission so just went for smashing each other.  had a nice table setup using rudra's terrain and then scatter terrain i had to fill some gaps.  played at guardian.  one of the main guys(cant remember his name but i recall him being from minnesota from a previous convo with him) came by to check things going on and i asked him about stocking infinity and it doesnt really seem like they are willing to unless we get a gamenight going there/regular crowd.  so thats a bit of a bummer.  as for the game rudra was packing military orders as usual and me with vanilla aleph.  my list is below and i really like it so far.

so im REALLY trying to get this down more by adding my opponents list buy im so bad at remembering specific details.  i know he had at least 2 hackers one being a father knight and 2 docs.  he also had a 4 man knight unit that i think was hospitallers cause he had a doc in them?  correct me please rudra lol.  think im missing a small point guy instead of one of the hackers...

so i won the wip and as per usual lately elected to take a side and make him deploy.  he put his 4 man scary knight link behind a wall ready to rampage through the open area on my left side.  then had 2 guys prone on top of a building in the middle which stayed there the entire game(i know one was a hacker but its the other one i cant remember!) and had his bulleteer and father smashface ready to go down the other side with msv2 spitfire order serg in the back as well behind a building with a girl serg(fusilier? doc?) behind another building.  anyways, i deployed my naga minelayer pretty much where the knights were going to rampage through and had my dasyu in hidden nearby.  it was basically a bunch of scatter terrain on the left side with many buildings scattering the middle and the right which blocked most viewpoints  in those areas.  i put mk2 sniper of course on top of the most seeing building in the middle and then the zayin with his prone buddy mk1 engineer in a building overlooking the most direct path for the knights.  i put scylla behind that building with her two bots.  then the msv2 deva and other deva hid behind the snipers building while the two dakinis were behind walls on the right.  oh! netrods being netrods one scattered directly into rudra's deployment area within inches of the knights and, well, everyone else lol.  the other one stuck in the middle.

Turn 1:  rudra of course took first turn and played pretty well.  killed the TR bot with his hmg link guy but took 2 orders to kill it thankfully.  then killed the netrod in the back.  discovered my mine.  then brought father and the bulleteer around right board edge.  bulleteer took out the final netrod and then father knight peered through the longer corridor.  think that was pretty much it for his first turn but i could be wrong.

so for my turn 1:  he took out pretty much what i expected him to kill but made one minor yet crucial mistake in facing his father knight not to cover the board edge next to him.  my garuda was sad that he had been forgotten about after last game so he decided to pay for another visit... BUT he had the bulleteer(a repeater) near the board edge and it was really close to whether i knew i could come on without getting hacked through it so i had to deal with that stinker first.  luckily my speedy dakini was up to the task and popped him with his combi.  note to self though: do not forget that they have ODD again... so brought on the garuda who popped the poor father in the back and killed him outright with his hmg.  oh evan measured it just for kicks on the garuda would have been BARELY outside 8 inches of the bulleteer but im happy i played it safe there regardless!  garuda then had freedom to his backline and with pleasure decided to exchange shots with the msv2 order serg and after a few orders finally got him down(but not dead!!).  then i kinda stupidly put him in suppression fire and right after i did it i noticed he had his hmg guy in the back with easily outside 24 inches and he made me pay for it... so that ended my turn after i revealed my mk2 and then promptly put her back in camo(just so i could use her for ARO to keep those knights honest...)

turn 2 rudra:  rudra shot at my garuda.  i stayed in suppression to keep the odds better and pray i can make an arm test.  i make the save and moved 2 inches into total cover from the hmg.  now i know he brought his spitfire msv2 order serg back this turn and he either finished off the garuda with that or with the hmg.  think it was the hmg knight... so he gets revenge for them.  then decides to discover and shoot at my mk2 with the msv2 spitifire.  so he was still at -6 due to range and cover but this was a good call by him yet the dice definitely went my way.  he did make all saves i think.  he did finally get a wound on the mk2 during his 3rd turn(both of us love msv2 spitfires i think...).

turn 2 DP: so i think i had him pinned and where i wanted to take some sacrificial runs now.  naga was willing this turn.  he exchanged shots with the hmg knight but took a few orders to bring him down and required a dogged rambo after he was in plain view of 3 of them after some dodges.  he may have put a wound on 1 or 2 other knights as well.  shotgun camo guys are awesome.  naga almost always either makes his points back by either kills themselves or by board denial.  glad i can use them in my new faction as well muwahaha.

turn 3 rudra:  he heals the hmg and then comes forward a bit covering the middle section.  he then gets that wound on the mk2 but not a 2nd with the spitfire msv2 so i drop prone with her so she doesnt get nabbed.  think thats pretty much it...

turn 3 DP:  well, at this point i just wanted to see what scylla was capable of.  i rambo'd her up to the knights.  she died but took 2 knights with her.  i then brought the msv2 spitfire deva up to cook one more after the link broke and then just ended it there.

notes:

-rudra informed to me you can use a lieutenant order to reform a link.  i just looked that up and i think that's wrong according to wiki.  command tokens(which he had plenty so no impact whatsoever) now serve that purpose.

-also from link teams:  i think marking your link leader is really important and honestly is easily forgotten if you dont.  i dont think you can change your link leader in the reactive turn so keeping him safe(which rudra did very well) is a good strategy unless you want the link to break lol(which can be the case sometimes!).

-i really am digging msv2 spitfire models.  rudra's really was his MVP and was really one of the first things that actually scared my mk2(besides NPs stinking ninja that popped next to her lol).  in a game where there's a bunch of camo i really dont think i can go to a table without a strong msv gun model.

-really liking how my list is working so cohesively.  im really curious how it works against ariadna and the higher order count factions.  trading the asura for asura-lite deva has really helped my list i think unfortunately.  i will bring the chick back sometime but man 72 points is just hard to swallow when a single missile can kill her(not having any defensive mechanism like ODD/mimetism makes her bad in the reactive turn...).

-i brought my camera and totally forgot to take pictures.  SOMEDAY I WILL REMEMBER!   SOOOMEEEDAY!!!

I'm staring at it in the Humansphere book.

"The link is also broken automatically if the Lieutenant uses his Lieutenant Special Order to create another Linked Team. The link can also be cancelled voluntarily by the player at any time, without spending any Orders.

Create a new Linked Team. The Lieutenant Special Order can also be used to create a Linked Team during the battle, placing the Team Leader Marker beside the figure declared as Leader. This only creates a Linked Team, it does not allow the Team to take an action in the same way as if a normal Order was spent.

This use of the Lieutenant Special Order doesn’t provide any AROs nor does it reveal him as the Lieutenant to the enemy. "

Good game though, I'd do it again.

its a FAQ:

Human Sphere & Paradiso Content UNDER 3RD ED RULES, CAN I STILL USE THE SPECIAL LIEUTENANT ORDER TO REINSTATE OR CREATE A FIRETEAM BY APPOINTING A NEW TEAM LEADER?

No, you can’t. Command Tokens now serve that role. In 3rd Ed, you may expend one Command Token to appoint a Team Leader, effectively repairing a broken link or creating a new Fireteam.

this is yet another reason why im excited for the new human sphere:  hopefully more cohesive ruleset lol

also what did i get wrong about your list!

imo, pretty mediocre list lol.  too much msv and not really much staying power.  no sniper, drop troops, etc that keep my opponent honest.  whatever i made the list quickly and just rolled with it.  once again the asura has continued to be a disappointment.  first game i just got crushed by exile.  started out pretty even but then i just couldnt deal with the stupid 2 aquila guards.  tough to deal with those in the reactive turns and i was lacking ranged firepower to deal with them in my active turn.  so i just took 4 free points by the dakinis and flushed it lol.  this game is when i wish i had my regular staple troops of garuda and sniper.  or heck even the hacker mk2 would have shined this game.  oh well.  thats what i get for trying to stubbornly make the asura work again and an objective that sucks all my useful orders away lol(order spam objectives are seriously annoying for aleph considering we pay a premium for line troopers...)

second game was just a lucky one.  i tried to possess jay's o'yoroi and it worked lol.  unfortunately couldnt kill a single model with it :(  so possessing TAGs is really crazy!  i was thinking i would need 3-4 orders for it to work but got lucky and got it first try with 5 orders to spend on him.  he isolated it with EM shots which was brilliant by him.  unfortunately that meant he couldnt use the TAG very much more after that turn..  after that, he basically couldnt dislodge the zayin TR bot.  the bot had a view of both trash cans.  when the dice finally went his way i made the save.  i think he tried to kill it with 6 different guys... yea just poor luck there for him.

conclusions: i tried the asura, think im done with her for a long time now.  she did end up getting the last wound on the o'yoroi but for a 70 point model it shouldnt take her 3-4 rounds of shooting at it to get one wound off it.  idk if its just bad luck with her or what but she's a permanent bench warmer now.  my list was horrible but my play with it was probably worse than the list.  luck made up for play in the second game.  possessing TAGs is awesome.  flame bot got killed by koala hugging but he at least allowed repeater to the TAG.  love those flame bots on scylla.

so my standard 300 list:  think im going to make a slight change for tactical reasons.  im not sure if i have enough specialists now but i wanted to add smoke to the list so i switched out one of the dakini paramedics for a myrmidon.  this allows the msv2 deva to shine i think a bit more.  it would for the asura as well but ive had it with her lol.  the garuda has single handed won me games.  people will figure out how to play that tactic eventually though.  so i think this list is pretty scary in tactical variance yet keeping ITS necessity as well... plus chain rifle myrmidons rock.

so tonight i got a game in at the thursday night group at red castle.   they were doing 300 point games with seize the antennas.  i just decided to roll with my usual list above^^^.  my opponent was ben i believe?  he plays nomads and i am not 100% sure on his list but i know most of the pieces being this:

we were on a board that had a decently large hallway with the antennas and a few large buildings in the middle left with a singular large silo on the right.  then on ben's side there was a large hill in the back that covered a good 2 feet of cover.   on my side i had a tall small silo and a few smaller buildings.  i won the wip roll and decided to make him deploy first and chose the side i was on cause... well... im lazy lol.  retrospect i probably should have taken his side i think for the advantages i felt it had.  he had quite a few camo markers which kind of scared me a bit.  i think he had 6 or something.  he deployed the koala girl up behind a building near the middle objective and the spektr near her as well.  he had the zero on the opposite side of the hallway near the middle with its mine peering over the middle objective.  he had some aggressive placement there!  he put 1 of his hackers(custodier i believe) behind the hill next to his lieutenant and the combi bot near as well.  then i think zoe there as well.  and then 2 other things near the back with his riot grrl kinda near the middle front behind a small terrain piece.  i pretty much put all my stuff in cover with the flame bots covering entry points on the left.  i put the TR bot of course in cover behind the right side of the building covering the middle and my side objective.  i put the msv2 spitfire prone behind a small piece in the middle front to scare his camo markers from approaching the objective with the myrmidon prone next  to him(take a guess why...).  sniper was hidden on top of the left side.  retrospect that was a pretty stupid location for her but it did clear things on the left side for me to advance(although on the FO bot).  the dasyu i put behind the right building opposite side of the zero in hidden.  and of course i saved the naga for last cause he dropped the riot grrl near the middle and i plopped the naga minelayer behind the left middle building(opposite of moran and other zero)  with his mine overlooking the middle objective on the side of the building.  so just an fyi seize the antennas is a 3 point for each objective seized at end of game and hackers get a +3 WIP while other specialists are just regular.

Bens turn 1:  so he had to deal with the naga issue and also the TR bot to clear that middle objective. he brought the spektyr forward and tried to dodge the mine and failed and died.  he then approached the naga with i think the zero and got really close to him to shield the naga from shooting the riot grrl moving up(he used command token i believe).  pretty cool tactic for him.  but i discovered the zero so he was sitting right in front of the naga camo marker.  the riot grrl tore the hmg bot to pieces.  he then triangulated fired my devabot that was covering the left part flank.  i was curious as to why he did this and then found out why on his next turn lol.  killed both netrods but took 2 orders thankfully.  he ended his turn there i think with some shuffling in the back and notably giving away who his lieutenant was trying to kill a netrod.

DP turn 1:  ok so as usual, things i expect to die died lol.  and naga had a cute little zero sitting in front of him.  think ben forgot minelayer nagas have boarding shotguns lol.  so bye bye zero.  bring sniper out of hidden and kill the FO bot in the back that killed my deva's devabot.  so the left front is wide open now and not many things can see that side... and the lieutenant is sitting behind the hill... enter garuda.  he takes a long shot marker that misses as he comes in.  shoots and kills custodier that shot it.  kills something else that i forget.  maybe the intruder idk.  then thought to myself 'anything i do with him now he will start taking a bunch of aros BUT i can get 4 uncontested shots out of LoF of his lieutenant and but him in loss of lieutenant'... so i decide to put 4 into the lieutenant.  oh ya know needing 15s and i miss all 4.  and garuda goes down... some times i wonder why i use tactics lol.  so i bring up the msv2 spitfire from prone and toast the riot grrl.  bring dasyu out of hidden to try and discover a zero yet fail.  then decide to just re-camo him.  so i put a huge dent in him that turn, opened up the middle into my control and was feeling pretty good and then...

Bens turn 2: he killed that devabot for a reason.  he brought on a tomcat and he is experienced so he knew who my lieutenant is.  he went for her with barely an inch to save him from taking an ARO flame to the face as he came in.  so yea he flamed the deva who was behind the broken devabot so couldnt respond.  she took a wound and luckily not a second while devabot went down so she could ARO now.  i decided to aro combi with her and at least go down kill it so he couldnt go rage in my back deployment zone along with the bot flash pulsing.  he surprisingly decide to use the combi and split burst with one into the bot and 2 into the deva.  i was kinda shocked by that... well the deva won the ARO and dropped the tomcat and he missed again the flashbot.  WOW.  lucky break there for me!  would have put me in loss of lieutenant.

DP turn 2:  scylla's turn to wreck havoc.   koalas really enjoy hugging devabots so i decided to sack a bot to get rid of both of them.  then brought scylla into action to toast the moran but i totally forgot about the camo marker next to her.  yup it was a mine and down she went.  stupid me... brought the dakini up to kill something that i forget in his back line(think it was pi well or maybe a moderator...).  anyways i spent a bunch of orders moving up this turn. dasyu laid a mine to prevent him from coming up to the middle objective.

Bens turn 3:  he was down to 3 models i think(curious if he was in retreat now that i think about it...).  he brought a hacker up to his side to get the objective while going down to an aro from either the dasyu or the msv2 deva.  then put his zero in suppression fire covering it.

my turn 3:  brought he engineer to rambo objectives for my 8 or 9 orders.  she got them all with the last one taking an ARO to her death from the suppression fire.  i didnt get my classified while ben did for data scan(his second turn whoops).  his zero covered his hvt too well.

pretty good game.  it was kinda funny how we both went for each others lieutenants having them dead to rights and then failing hilariously.  nagas vs zeros are so much fun.  they play kind of similarly.  i didnt rambo the naga this time mostly due to the amount of camo markers around which could have been mines.  i was disappointed in my placement of the sniper.  she really didnt have much to do this game which is OK but she really should have been placed in the middle zone as she would have done amazingly there(although there were msv models there so maybe not...).  msv2 deva was clutch again.  he took a wound from a spitfire ARO but man i love that you can just drop prone from valor.  really saves my butt quite a bit!!   i hadnt played against nomads in a while so that was pretty interesting.  his list was one of the more camo heavy ones ive faced.  the intruder and spitfire riot grrl are pretty scary.  and man dealing with koalas is kinda tough with tight quarters.  i think i need to edit my list to not have an obvious lieutenant.  good players are just going to gun for it and i need to have a backup option.  think i can actually squeeze in another deva with a little editing so we'll see..

EDIT i just realized you are able to take an ARO from any template at -3 phys.  DUH!!!  well so she at least would have had a chance to survive the first shot anyways.  ill try and not forget that

so bummer i couldnt make the gamenight yesterday and sadly it looks like ill miss TAG night as well due to going to seattle for next weekend :(  ive been working on the marut a ton lately!  i seem to paint quite differently from most people in that i work on many models at the same time rather than a single one, but ill admit when you focus on one it does seem to look a bit better for some reason.  for my aleph army as of painting this is what i have:

Done(besides base work):

-zayin

-lamedh/daleth/samekh

-marut

-yudbots

-2 myrmidon hackers(but i generally use as chain rifles...)

-myrmidon officer

needs highlighting(and swords need to be painted):

-proxy girls

-scylla

-4 devabots

-4 dakinis(3 regular 1 hmg)

-garudas(1 combi 1 hmg)

-asura

-naga minelayer

-dasyu

-devas(2 regular, 1 spitfire)

needs some more layers or base:

-naga hacker

-sophotect

-netrods

-all steel bros(pheonix, achilles, thors, ekdromoi, etc)

pretty obvious im painting what im using first right now.  i at least got 3 layers on things ill use for tournament although i need to get cranking on that naga hacker if i want to use two of them... its mostly if i want to downgrade the dasyu so that i can squeeze another deva in there to not have an obvious lieutenant.

this would have been my list for next week:

looking at a-con lists.  really hoping they add a few units sometime to them.  seems a bit lacking!  well i tried to put a list together to 'build toward'(very slowly lol).  thinking something like this although who knows if toni gets changed ill probably just sub down to a tikbalang.  list seems really weird and defensive but i kinda like it.

Looks solid, but, no matter how awesome they can be, I always have trouble justifying the point cost of TAGs.  Camo could be a big issue to play against with this list.  If you can make room for a few cheap sniffer bots then it will be a big help.  Having sensor on cheap infantry if a big help, getting the bots to lay down some sensor coverage just makes it easier to deal with otherwise deadly threats.

yea unfortunately i really think acon needs either a Dragoes or Toni to have a scary offensive weapon.  guarda is great but can go down quite easily .  TAGs are tough to take down and they are ARO nightmares due to the high BS and their range bands.  Toni is solid because you can effectively protect him from many CC specialists or hackers with mines.  i think toni is much more worth the points than say the asura.  that saying, a-con will always struggle against camo due to only having msv1 on bagh mari.  they have very few ways to combat them, but ive thought about this a lot and the one thing that really ticks off camo markers.... is other camo markers that could be mines lol.  i will start with 4 camo markers possibly 5 if i switch one FO to a minelayer.  then a sensor plus two HFT in the list.  definitely have SOMETHING to deal with camo just maybe not the awesome sauce like devas.  i think im actually more afraid of really good HI link teams than camo.  things that dont really care that much about mines and can kill toni pretty easily.  who knows though.  i mostly wanted to do acon because i think it will be a challenge and a different beast than aleph.  i do think it will be muuuuuch tougher for ITS with a-con.
