Lack of information

Yeah it's a strange unit. Its a wizard that needs an escort to be in any kind of spell/ability range and gets bonus attacks for combat when it has 10+ skaven around...so what is its real purpose? Lol

Basically, of the "skaven" models, you have three realistically durable General options which are hero models:

The Skaven Bell, 4+ save and 12 wounds. He's a Chaos Wizard so you could summon daemons if you wanted to. He's got 3 spells and an AoE command ability that increases Bravery and Move for fellow skaven models.

The Plague Furnace. 4+ save and 12 wounds. He's a priest and has AoE abilities. Very short range. Very iffy around non-pestilen/non-nurgle models. It is notable that this model can actually recieve healing via the magic of the Great Unclean One.

Thanquol and Boneripper: 4+ save and 13 wounds. Special Character. A bit OP for a non-monster. He's a hero and a chaos wizard, so he's like the Skaven bell, only more fearsome in assault.

Every other "skaven" hero is pretty much screwed as soon as the enemy notices them....So, if sticking to the skaven battletome, the Verminlords become the other, viable General option, even though they aren't "Skaven."

Beyond that, I think a Stormfiend unit would make a pretty solid General. Minimum unit of 18 wounds, 4+ saves, and some pretty sweet range and melee options. As moulder units, you can easily boost their bravery via packmasters.

From what I'm seeing with the bell is a combat support hero. The highest range is only 13" and with 2d6 attacks hitting on 2+/3+ to wound it's supposed to smash into stuff then blast it apart with the bell powers

Think "durable wizard."

Seems pretty fragile on the melee end, given how reliant he is on much more fragile models.

He'd make a pretty vicious dedicated Summoner, as he's both a chaos wizard and able to summon with non-magic (unlikely, but it could happen).

Now, that said, he could also be used as a disposable "rocket wizard" where you jet him forward via his pretty easy to boost move speed, knowing full well that he'll be stranded where ever he ends the move, and then using him to disrupt enemy spellcasters (18" unbind range and 6" range on his casting penalty).

The regular Grey Seer is a much better wizard in terms of support hero. 26" spell range (that's the longest in the game, as far as I know) and a very useful command ability. He's just screwed if the opponent actually attacks him...

Yeah. The non-bell/verminlord heroes would get one shot. I guess the bell with 30 clanrats will have to work lol or the much more expensive verminlord in terms of money and 100+ more points then the bell

You could try ebay for an OOP metal verminlord. Much smaller, but much cheaper.

Though another option would be to take a cheap general and just hide all game....very skaven.

Well I didn't know you could only build one weapon per guy so now I need to figure out how to make 2 more of the same weapons. Mixed units don't seem to work too well

Stormfiends don't include the bits for an entire unit?

If your looking for old metal skaven let me know! I've got the bell and vermin lord in metal plus a ton of troops and Warmachines.

I am interested, though I doubt I can pay what they are worth.

Whoa whoa whoa...the GW website was reorganized again with 'grand alliance' categories. Now the skaven are broken down into different clans. First thing I was in the clan skryre...no more ikit, hello arch-warlock! When did that happen?

Wow...if you click the PDFs, looks like they go to a different PDF than before. Looks like we'll be getting more books soon.

Lol nope. They only include one weapon per box...so looks like it's bit hunting for me. No way am I buying 2 more boxes...now to look at those changes...

Hmm...clanrats and stormvermin aren't in the skaven selections, you have to select 'all chaos' to find them

I'd put a hold on any future purchases. Looks like GW's about to do something big on their site. I'd wait until GW posts a battletome for skaven....
