Threejacks
Did a test paint and basing for my Sons Duardin,he chose the Drong lodge as a backround for his army, they feature some brown red streaks in their hair and do large tattoos on their bodies. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=954753544600876&set=pcb.954754264600804&type=3 Hope that goes through... I also made some Blood geyser tokens for the Brimstone peninsula battles:)
Malakithe
Oh that's cool. Not sure what paint scheme I want for mine yet. I just ordered the book for inspiration. How did you do the bases?
Malakithe
So everyone has fyreslayers now? Lol
PourSpelur
They don't look sneaky at all! Guess they don't live up to the fyreSLYer name at all;) Great looking models though, I like the red/brown combo. Seems counter-intuitive but really rocks.
WestRider
Dude. That actually looks WAY better than how the GW studio chose to paint them.

Threejacks
So everyone has fyreslayers now? Lol Its what my Son wanted after seeing crazy little dudes, heh.I just need to get him into painting some of them as I'm really into my Chaos stuff at the moment. For the bases,I looked up some guides online and seen many using cork to just build up the base then just paint in the crevises with reds orange and yellows. They are pretty basic but I wanted to try something different,,my basing always kinda stumps me as to what to do.I need to up game in that area! I should note that to mount the model on the cork,I actually put a plastic rod through the cork and glued it to the base so the model has better support. It seems to me that they can get popped off the cork rather easily if I were to just glue them to that alone. Malakithe
Well I have a ton of them now. I'm thinking a more red-orange for the hair and maybe darker more ashy skin
Malakithe
Who has some of these guys painted up so far? I'm building them but leaving the heads off so the chest/body is easier to paint...any other advice?
Norrad
You might as well glue the head on. The beard will cover what you plan on painting so what's the point.
Malakithe
I've seen painting tutorials with the head on and off. For the vulkite I can probably keep the heads on but these hearthguard are hard enough with the small arms holding the weapons over the chest On a side note I'll have tons of extra parts. Spare hair crests, various icons and keys. Might be good to convert some regular dwarf artillery crews
Malakithe
I was putting together the Battlesmith when I noticed a ton of details on the chest...that will vanish fully after the head goes on. Why would GW put all that effort into the chest knowing it will never be seen through the giant beard?

Why would GW put all that effort into the chest knowing it will never be seen through the giant beard? Sometimes its because the part is used in another model,,not sure in this case though. Malakithe
The Battlesmith body is unique to just him I think. So yeah not sure why I would waste the time painting the chest only to cover it fully with the head and beard
Norrad
It's because of this detail that GW figs are considered the best! The detail is there for the completest and the modeler. If you wanted to convert the figure with a different head you might need that detail.
Malakithe
That's true though I've yet to see a head with a beard that doesn't go down to the belt lol maybe for something else
Malakithe
So many spare parts...hair, picks, slingshields, horns...axes, guns, a million little keys and icons...

Malakithe
If I had spare bodies I could make more guys. I feel like I'm just wasting the parts

I feel like I'm just wasting the parts As time goes on,check ebay for bits. You may find bodies for sale as many bit sellers buy boxes to part out. Malakithe
Yeah I was thinking about that actually. If there ever release the rumored steamhead guys I'll have more then enough part to convert them to fyreslayers. So big guns could be nice
