Mordheim in Vancouver!

Andrewgeddon

Recommended Posts

So I'm taking a break from painting WHFB and I'm working on some of my Mordheim warband. I've talked with a few of my friends and there are 3 or 4 of us that are interested in getting some Mordheim up and running on this side of the river.

Dates / times / location to be determined, just gauging interest at this point. Possibly a weekday evening at Mythic Realms. Working on some very light "house rules" to fix some of the common issues (2 weapon fighting, slings, armor).

When are we looking at getting this up and running Andrew?

Good question! I was hoping to get at least 6 people interested, but as it stands we should have 4 or 5, so we can probably try to get things rolling.

My thought right now is Wednesday nights, every other week,5ish? Not sure where at exactly, Mythic Realms might work, but I feel like Dice Age has more suitable terrain.

I'm going to take a look at February (Valentines Day and all that) and try to figure out a "start date." I'll also send you and Fixxxer a list of the proposed house rules and get your input.

One week from today! 5:00pm at Mythic Realms in Salmon Creek we're going to start this bad-boy up! There are 4 of us currently, still plenty of time and room for others to join in! Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you a copy of our "house rules" pack :)

Now I need to get back to painting my Beastmen Raiders...

First session was a blast! Had 2 people who were unable to show up last night, so we did a 1v1v1 game (wizard's tower). Beastmen defended the tower in the middle vs Undead and Skaven. Bestigors managed to take out a vampire on a lucky double-charge and rout the Undead, but were then smashed by the Skaven. Congrats to Fixxer for winning on his first Mordheim game!

We are meeting again Tuesday next week at Mythic Realms, 5pm. Still plenty of time for people to join up! 3 of the players are new to the game, so no worries if you don't have any prior experience.

Just wanted to point out I played my first game last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth getting involved with a great bunch of guys every other Tuesday up in Salmon creek. If anyone has been sitting on the fence to get involved take the plunge and come up and roll some dice. Thanks for organizing this Andrew! I will certainly be coming again in a couple of weeks.

Hey all, just wanted to give any Vancouver people (or Portland people willing to cross the river, heh) a heads up that our new "league" for Mordheim is up and running, and new players are more than welcome to join! Tuesday nights at 5, at Mythic Realm Games in Salmon Creek.

I will be sitting out next Tuesday to recover from OFCC, but I know most of the other guys in the group are planning on meeting next Tuesday. If you are interested and want more details, feel free to drop me a line :)

Cheers!

Last night was awesome, it was great to get back into the swing of things. Jerris (sp?) was incredibly patient, and Ian was a great sport even with a few bad rolls (and one of his gobbos killing another one of his own gobbos was pretty awesome!). It was a fun 3-way game, and I love that we can do that so that no one -has- to sit out if we have odd numbers!

It was great meeting new folks and rolling some dice!

Note: Vampires are pretty freakin' scary, and not just in the movies!

Like Andrew, I can't be there next week, but the week after I fully plan to be back and ready for another throw-down!

Another fun Mordheim night last night, fellas!

I got to play Connor's orcs, and was a bit intimidated by his warband's rating being -twice- what mine was. LOL! I thought for sure he was going to kill me with Lazer-beemz from his goblin's eyes or something.

It went very quickly. I had two 'groups', basically, one on the left flank and one in the center. The center group charged up the middle and met his group of goblins head on. My group on the left did some shooting and such a few times before falling back, luring his Troll/Warboss/Other heroes away. I managed to grab 2 of the 3 Wyrd Stone, but... I didn't get to keep them.

I managed to take out one of his gobbos, but then I also managed to get one of my Black Skaven punked by a goblin. How embarrassing is THAT? He ended up with a hand injury - which I imagine was him putting his hand in front of his face to keep from getting hit there. "Not the face! Not the face!"  Funny enough, his advancement last time was +1 WS... so the hand injury cancels that. Figures!

But, I got a TON of XP, and most of my rolls were pretty good! One guy even got 'Choose New Skill' - TWICE. Still thinking on what to give him!

Was a ton of fun, and Connor is a definitely gentleman. It's just that -Andrew- guy I am worried about playing... or that Sam-fella that everyone keeps warning me about! :)

Until next week, friends!!!

P.S. Mordheim seems to be having a bit of recent upswing in Portland, as well... man, would it be fun to have a "North Mordheim" vs. "South Mordheim" day sometime down the road... MWhahaha!

yea i wish i could make it up to you guys but going to the couv and back during a weeknight is just not feasible for me :( plus i dont get the car until 7pm anyways.

No need for a car man, if you start walking around noon you should make it to Salmon Creek just in time!

In all seriousness though, wish you could make it Nate, but I totally understand; I wish I could make it to Portland, would totally play on both sides of the river if I had the time!

Is it too late to jump onto this bandwagon? Tuesdays are one of the few nights I'm free and it would be fun to learn the game (especially with all the recent interest in Mordheim!)

Not at all man, we would love to have you :)

Nice thing about Mordheim is that, even if a warband has an experience advantage on you, the Underdog Experience mechanic does a pretty good job of helping balance out new warbands.

I will send you a copy of our "house rules" that we use; they are pretty close to right out of the book, only a few significant changes to help balance some things :)

Another awesome night, fellas! I got two games in - and didn't even get in trouble when I got home! YAY!

Game 1

I played against Ian's Orcs and Gobbos. Thank GOD he doesn't have a troll (yet!). The game started out great - Ian went first - and one of his first rolls was a 1 for animosity. Another 1 had his guy charging his nearby dude - and beheading him. All within the first 30 seconds of the game. While that is great fun from my point of view across the table - it meant less XP that I could get! Drat!

But Ian was not bothered at all, and we plowed toward one another in the 'Skirmish' scenario. I have to admit, I really don't care for 'line up and fight' scenarios. I -love- objectives, missions, etc, but Ian rolled this one and seemed happy with it, so of course I'll play it.

We crashed into each other and beat each other up. I actually wounded something with my wizard's spell (Gnawdoom on his Warboss! What fun!), and that was a first for the mage! And I also made my FIRST armor-save ever! WOW! Rats wearing armor! Leather made from the skin of my foe-foes!

Ian reached breakpoint first, but succeeded the first two times. We fought about 8 turns, and on that last turn, I -just- lost my 4th guy so that I had to start testing as well, but Ian didn't feel it was worth it to go another round, so he ran. It was a good, close game, as our warband ratings were very similar (no one got a bonus).

Thanks Ian!

Game 2

I played Andrew and his Witchunter force. More man-things! Yuck! And to make it worse, Andrew had the NERVE to hire an elf-thing into his force, as well! ARGH! We hates them, precious, we hates them ALL!

Andrew lined up with a crossbowman and the elf in one corner, and then a crossbowman and a regular bowman in the other. Lots of range, with good BS. I thought I was gonna be doomed before I got anything done at all. We decided to do the wyrdstone hunt mission (who doesn't like a shot at a little extra xp?).

For the first few turns, I rushed forward using cover as much as possible. We each danced around a bit, trading pot-shots with bows. But, as usual, we finally had a little 'meeting' in the middle, and finally we got stuck in.

I can tell you that flagellants are -nasty-. STR 6 first round! OUCH! It was pretty obvious that the only reason I did ok was because I got real lucky on the rolls. Yes, Andrew had a string of like 200 successful parries going for awhile, but eventually his luck ran out!

The BEST part (and the best part of any game I've played so far) came when I smacked down his warband leader. Andrew got to the breakpoint, and I think he rolled once and stayed, but by the next turn, the elf and three of his archers were out, as well as a flagellant, while I had only lost a single rat. So he decided to leave, which I thought was a GOOD idea! (yes-yes! Run-run, man-things!).

But when we rolled for outcome of our guys, my rat made it through, but Andrew's LEADER was CAPTURED! I had my VERY OWN life-sized Witchhunter Captain to TOY with! I thought about it for a bit, about all the different amazing clothing articles I could make from his skin, but in the end, he was worth more to me alive than dead! So, we negotiated for his imminent release, and after Andrew explained that it was impossible to replace a leader who was slain or sold into slavery, I made a deal for gold... AND the Witchhunter Captain's Hat!

So, I am going to model my leader WEARING that Captain's hat, as a REMINDER to all the man-things that you just don't mess with Toxiden Stabb! He will kill-kill you! (or steal your clothes). Meanwhile, I am sure the Witch Hunters will gladly replace Andrew's missing hat! :)

And of course, after the battle, BOTH Andrew and I did our exploration and we each found an overturned cart. And, we each found a jeweled sword. I sold mine (not warpstone, no need-need!), while I believe Andrew saved his.

Both games were a blast, and this group is so amazingly easy-going that I had a really good time and look forward to next Tuesday!

Had a great game Tim, even if I was less than pleased that m Flagellant hero kept rolling "2s" to hit, heh. Probably karma for how badly I stomped my friend's Nigh Goblins!

But yes, great games all around, looking forward to next week! Had a local interested in joining up the league, so hopefully we might see some new faces next week :)

Another awesome night fellas! 7 of us again. I am -more- than happy to jump in a 3-way game like we did tonight. Those multiplayer scenarios are really cool, and I've never played them. The basic ones in the main book are mostly kinda 'meh' and several of them feel like the same thing, so it's a nice change!

Tonight my rats faced Andy's Possessed and Ian's orcs. We got the 'Rescue the Prince' mission, which was pretty interesting. The most interesting thing about it was that ALL of his random movements were directly towards Ian's corner of the board - so, sadly, that's where Andy and I headed! (Must have been an Orc prince!).

Ian got a bit of a double-team on him until he broke. Not only did he have the fewest models on the board, but he was closest to the NPC we had to rescue so that made him a big target. We made him break pretty fast, or rather, Andy and I each took out a couple of his guys (including his Warboss and Shammy), and then he chose to run because he was likely to lose more.

That left me and Andy, and I got him to his breakpoint first, but with a 9 LD, Andy likely wasn't going anywhere. He retaliated with those mean beastmen and those freakin' mini-trolls (Possessed). Ouch! He got me to my breakpoint, and of course with my 7, we ran on the first roll. LOL!

The poor prince... taken away to the home of the Possessed to have terrible things done to him... I doubt he'll ever be seen again...

Was another awesome-fun game, and the guys are just an awesome group to play with. Not sure how the other guys fared - I think Andrew ended up facing off against Connor, and Dante played Jeris... I think. Jeris and Dante were still going at it even after our three-way was done, so they must have been having a good one!

Only two of my guys got skill-ups. Reaching those XP levels now where they come slower. I DID find Weeping Blades, though, so am pretty happy about that! :)

Until next Tuesday!

I keep getting scheduled on tuesdays!!!   I swear I'm trying to get the time to come down, I'm loving the mordheim that I'm playing in portland.

Question:  Should I bring a brand-spanking new warband, or keep with the Marienburg mercs that I have been grooming?

I would bet Andrew will tell you 'bring whatever!'. Buuuuut, I am sure he'll be along to answer that for sure. ;)

Our ratings that I've seen at this time seem to range between about 140-300+. My second game I was at 120, and played someone with a 260. Needless to say, TONS of XP after that one, and I made sure he only got my henchmen. ;)

That's one thing I do love about this game: Even if you play against a much stronger warband, you can look forward to a healthy dose of XP after the battle... as long as you don't let all your important guys get ripped to shreds!

Would love to have you join us, even if it's once in awhile or however much you can make it. We don't have set 'playing schedules' for who plays who, and you aren't "required" to play so many games or whatever. I know one of our regular dudes couldn't show up tonight, and having 8 regulars up here is the largest 'Mordheim' league I've been in. And every one of those guys has been fun to play. (Well, I think there's one left I haven't played with yet, but I've watched and he's pretty laid-back, himself).

Last week we had a couple guys watch for a bit and show interest, and Andrew gave them the sales-pitch. They might or might not show up in the future. Tonight a couple 40Kers showed up near the end of our first games and one was totally shocked that we were playing Mordheim. You never know! :) Enthusiasm can be contagious! :)
