  1. I have both Eldar codices on my iPad… but I am annoyed at the price as well. I don't plan to purchase any more books this way. Mostly because… IF I wanted out of the game - I can't recoup any money on the digital books. At least with the real book I could sell it at 50% price… heck even 75% off lol. I will only purchase books that I know I will always want in my collection. Although I am also leery of that - because will that book be supported in 10 years on any platform? At least right now - I can go grab my 1st ed Eldar Codex… and browse through it and the artwork. I can't find something to read my old syquest drive… or zip disks currently.. lol -d
  2. on this note — if I was ONLY really playing Apoc… what books do I really need?… (aside from the Apoc and main 40k rule book that is)... -d
  3. I have no doubt about that point Chappy… my worry isn't the big stuff ( I love Apoc more than any other part of 40k)… my worry is the current rate of rule-flow coming from GW --- like I said - over 150$ in rulebooks alone have come out since my last time to play down at wow… Just books and rules… none are really army/codex specific stuff. This is kinda my reference earlier to CCG's… or even the days when we had the battle manual… compendium and the vehicle manual come out in succession… it was maddening to keep up with the rules. That is the core of my fear really - I don't really have the time to keep up with the rulebooks - less the time to read the new rules for things.. lol. -d
  4. currently my regular game is RPGs… with friends :). To war-game - none of my immediate friends play at all. So to play 40k regularly it is me finding a new regular group or go down to WoW or somewhere. I did go down to Wow late last year and played some of the new edition and had fun. Since that time 3 more supplemental rules have come out (maybe more - i lost track) … essentially upping the learning curve time sink and $$ lol ... in 4 months lol. -d
  5. I really feel this discussion has clarified to me the current situation with 40k.. and why now probably isn't the best time for me to jump back into it. -d
  6. I only play for fun… I enjoy collecting and painting the figs… but I tend to want to have all the rules to things I may play… and getting back is hard enough… without the flood of stuff lol. It's all me I get it. And I remember Rogue Trader days…and the massive rules changes every book coming out like 3-4 months apart. It's when 95% of everyone I knew quit the game LOL. For me… that which will not fit into my Eldar warhost (for apoc mostly) will be sold. When I play it is only for the fun - and I won't be keeping up with the many rules additions ..etc. -d
  7. I have been out of playing 40k for some time… but I did try the most recent version about 6 months ago and really liked it. But since then its been a landslide of stuff … sourcebooks … rulebooks …etc. It really seems daunting to try and get back into a game that keeps dumping all this stuff. Not that it is bad for the game … it just really seems convoluted and hard to keep up with. I have started to dust off my specialist game stuff - with thoughts of selling off the 40k stuff and moving on. I love the stuff I have - I just don't feel like I have the stomach to get back into something that to me… is starting to resemble a CCG in my mind. -d
  8. Homeland was great… up until this last season … which I really feel like was subpar. To the point of which both my wife and I are not interested in it anymore. I really feel like the show has "jumped the shark" ideologically. @ thumbs way way up for the first 2 seasons…after that MEH. It really felt like they were grasping for something good - and ran out of ideas. True Detectives - AWESOME so far… really great writing… and chemistry. House of Cards (netflix) - so far the other season was pretty good. This new one we are only a few shows in - and I am ok with it… but I will hold out the final verdict until we finish. Justified… awesome fun … this season has been interesting but still waiting for it to really go somewhere hehe. -d
  9. way to do… jinxing it PPE… :(
  10. If I ever make it up to one … I can take you pax… just not sure I can make it to this one.
  11. I believe that is correct… I'd have to go back and look at the book. Although the Wraithknight can also be the Warlord :D -d
  12. Hmmm not that bad. And wife could meet up with her son in Seattle.... Probably not gunna happen this time but I'm holding out hope for on this year. - ;)
  13. well for inclusion sake - I have to get at least one wraith knight… I play apoc… and have taken more than one Revenant… same hit-an-miss goes on there. I have lost my revenant in the first turn - as about as much as I lasted into the mid game lol. I also plan to get a fighter as well… ( I saw a nice conversion on one to allow use of both flyer types with magnets). And on top of that I will be picking up a couple additional Wave Serpents. Lastly, I will probably pick up at least one box of the newer wraith guard for the scythe unit. as for as the defensive wall goes - how decent are they? I picked one modeled for "elder" off CMON a couple months back… I even have older Eldar Guardians to put behind it LOL. -d
  14. so taking 2 wraithknights in a list isn't… Cheese? lol. I was thinking… "what is the smallest figure count I could get away with"… in my wraith list. A Wraithwall strike force. I thought of the jets - 2 wraith knights - wraith guard mounted in serpents. Jetbikes… something' - something' like that. Possibly OTT? or still funnish and mid range tourney? I am ok with insta-kill on my stuff - it happens all the time. I play for the fun - and wanting to be bringing a list that can at least compete. -d
  15. Thanks fluger I will check out that thread….
  16. wraith knight a joke… because its ineffective? or has a giant target on its back? or is just broken? I want to have one basically because of my collection of eldar will have to have at least one anyway -d
  17. Ok, here is my semi annual Eldar list building post. But as it turns out I may be back with time to devote to the hobby in the spring. Currently I have some extra funds to devote to filling gaps or filling in needs. Anyhow, this is my best opportunity to get going is in my sights. So this leads to how? Ok my core list is wraithguard... Warwalkers... Wraithlords... And a few bikes. I am very short on wave serpents so they are on my purchase list. I'm looking to make purchases now — to make a list that should be a fun all comers affair. Looking to get at least one wraithknight (is two to much?). It's been awhile so now that a couple new books are out since the new Eldar codex. What now do I need to worry about. Is a wraith list viable in the current meta? What is considered a must have this year? My hope is to be playing regularly by spring ... And preferably with a list I could take to events and game nights alike -- fun and not overly worried about face stomping. -d
  18. hmmm not sure i want to knock them that far down … remind me to be careful if your ever my DM lol. I like how you think lol.
  19. my friend was thinking… why would we run? I figured … details…details… i will just fill that in on flashbacks lol. … this begs the next question that comes to mind… I had thought about reducing the party's hit points by maybe 10-15%… and ammo… to allow for some reasoning as to the running fights along the way. To me that seems logical - but as a player I may be annoyed lol. but then again the party has bandages and a healer lol. Not like I am taking charges away from their exotic or artifacts (if they have them). -d
  20. yes… I have started a campaign with an in the middle of the action - but never done it 4-5 sessions in lol.
  21. In my current RPG group I have been the DM for the current campaign (clockwork/steampunk 3.5 d&d)… Anyhow, after a short 3 session beginning story arc we launched into the start of the next and big story arc last session. My current thinking is to now leap forward into things… but after discussing this thought with one of the players (long time friend) he was uneasy about it being a railroad. I tend to agree to a point. But I really have a idea that I would like to try with the group to help curtail the 1+ hour at the start of each session of chit chat. In this case… in the last session we ended with the party on an "away mission" from their airship… they are on a clockwork floating city of sorts… its full of automaton workers and clockwork creatures. … they made their way to a door into the "inner" area of the city. At the last session the party was standing at this door - ready to go in - and that is where we decided to break. My thought is to run things forward … and start off with the party "running and tired" for the last 8 hours… being chased through the maze that is the clockwork city. I would not fill in the backstory - I would allow for player flashbacks - and fill in the gaps through playing those flashbacks out. Anyhow, its all very fluid (its generally the way I DM). My main point is to ratchet up the action - and stress the tension to kick off the session with a bang… and to get all the players into the session at the get go. I figured I would try it out for a session and see how it works out. My thought would be to have the en media res resolved by the end of the session just in case it is a disaster. --- back to my question - My friend (whom is sometimes grumpy and usually not speaking for the group) seemed to be put off by the idea. But I don't find him to be a good judge of the rest of the players opinions. That is backed up by things that have happened over the last year or so of gaming with this group lol. I was wondering if anyone else tried this - or if players had some opinions. As a player I can see his points - but I think if I allow the flashbacks to be basically player directed I think its ok. But I may have my blinders on lol. =-d
  22. great thanks… I will give more thought to the D7000…. and see if I can get my hands on one to get a feel for it. -d
