  1. I sort of did that on purpose on this one, but if I was going for a smoother spray, it's a matter of a few things - airbush quality - you need a decent one, but a more expensive airbrush isn't necessarily going to give you a better result unless you optimize the rest. Paint consistency is key - you have to match the thinner / paint mix to the tip size and pressure. You'll also want to limit the pressure - anything above about 25psi is probably going to be too much...
  2. Making some major progress at this point on the tanks and guns for the 510. Schwere Panzer Abteilung list. I’m now working on the ambush camouflage tanks – these will serve as the 1iC and 2iC for the list. As none of the King Tigers in the unit had any markings at this point, I can’t use turret numbers to differentiate squads – fortunately they used three types of camouflage, so between that and popping open a few hatches I’m in good shape! I’m 2/3rds of the way through the main colors on the hard edge camouflage for the King Tigers. First I did a base with AK Interactive Panzer Dark Yellow modulation: Then I got back out the Panzer Putty, masked, and hit it with the dark green modulation: The red brown is next once the green has dried enough to mask over. I’ve also been hitting up the tanks of the training squad. I went with an AK interactive base coat as I found the Ammo of MIG wargaming set to be a shade brighter (I’m using shadow, light base, and highlight – and the MIG set has base, highlight, and shine). I may try the Ammo of MIG again, but I’ll have to go lighter on the modulation coats... I then hit these with the red-brown and olive green overspray from the Ammo of MIG set as I wanted a freehand camouflage for these: I’m still working out the techniques with the new high-end Iwata, but the results are pretty good so far. While I was at it I hit the Flak guns as well... More at the blog: http://miniordnancerev.blogspot.com/2014/08/reinforcements-arrive-for-510-schwere.html
  3. Well, she... but otherwise, yes... *lol* It's a small store - we're all hoping to get more "stuff" going on there soon. Right now Magic is the big push / seller...
  4. It's in Scappoose - though I just found out the owner is at PAX this weekend - so the store is closed... :(
  5. Howdy all - it's Labor Day weekend - W00T! Anyone want to come out to Mighty Fortress for FoW this weekend? I can be there on Sunday!!!
  6. So I'm making progress! I got my panzer putty in, and went ahead and masked up the "octopus" scheme: I went ahead and started getting the panzer dark yellow down and highlighted: ... and then got the octopus spots on one of the two: I also got a better picture of the primer one: From a tank standpoint, this is starting to come together. I've also started scraping the infantry and FlaK gun crews... More at the blog: http://miniordnancerev.blogspot.com/2014/08/release-kraken-or-more-fun-with-510.html
  7. I've moved over to the Ammo of MIG and AK interactive paints for anything I want to modulate. Still a little bit of a learning curve. I'll pose the dark yellow modulation later this week - the base for the panzer dark yellow didn't like my primer for some reason, but I was able to clean it up with a 2nd coat.
  8. Steve - if you ever want an airbrush tutorial, I can hook ya up! :D
  9. So I've finally gotten together all of the Ammo of Mig and AK paints I need to start getting serious about modulation at 15mm scale. I've used the technique a lot on 1/35th scale miniatures, but compared to 15mm - well, honestly there is no comparison. I'm starting with some of the King Tigers from 510 Schwere Panzer-Abteilung - specifically the "green octopus" and the red primer one with some panzer dark yellow overspray. I'm basing the paint schemes on Trojca's King Tiger book and some extant photos. The base green modulated nicely using a 3 color modulation: The primer red looked great too: Not content to stop there, I went ahead and did the panzer yellow overspray... the new Iwata Custom Micron made short work of it... unfortunately I'd lost the lovely natural light, so the flash and my indoor lighting washes out a lot of the marvelous detail in the shading - but you get the general idea: One cool thing about this particular vehicle is it had a couple of track guards in "ambush" scheme (though the connector between the two is depicted as still being in primer red): So far I'm extremely happy with the results. 10. Yes - love Flames of War - would be interested in at least playing a few other eras and systems as well...
  11. I'm going to be picking up both sets... have paints for the tanks already... need to figure out when I'll actually get them PAINTED though... :D
  12. Where else do you have this one advertised? Have you put it on the FoW page or Facebook page???
  13. No FoW at MFG this Sunday - have a conflict. Hope to pick it back up on the 17th.
  14. Anyone thinking about making the drive on Sunday? I'll bring enough "stuff" for one 4x6 - want to know if I should bring enough for two...
  15. They had an amazing model and book selection as well... Major loss...
  16. I'll be there with something German... Probably Jagdtigers...
  17. I'm hoping she will expand into some of the other gaming areas with product... It is easier to have regular games when there is stuff to buy on site.
  18. So far I've definitely got.... .... ... me... I'll likely have enough space / terrain for 2 full size games or 3 small point games... The shop could hold more if we start getting people...
  19. So my friend decided to go on vacation and the store is closed this coming weekend. So no FoW this Sunday. We'll pick it up in a couple of weeks...
  20. So when is this going to happen. I wan to make sure that my schedule is clear,
  21. That's some really nice work! :D
  22. So my friend with the gaming store in Scappoose is still building up the store, but as Sunday's have been kinda slow she's letting me sort of take over and have some open Flames of War. I'm thinking mid-July to get things officially started. I need to get some 2' x 4' boards set up so that we can run standard 4' x 6' games. I have a fair amount of terrain I can bring, but more would never hurt. There would probably be room for either 2 or 3 games to run concurrently as the store isn't gigantic by any stretch of the imagination. Dates I can be there on Sunday afternoon for the next couple of months: 7/13 7/27 8/3 8/17 8/24 Store website: http://mightyfortress.com/ So who all wants to come out? :D
  23. I'm in - though the current army I'm working on was on a different part of the front while Stalingrad was going on...
