I hear you but Gobbos also need deep ranks for horde and warband rules. So it’s got to be a balance with some lists. Also with as many units I’ll be taking 10 wide would be blocking my other units and having two units making a charge is better than one 10 wide unit. I hear you but there are reasons why you wouldn’t want to take that wide of a unit. My Orc Weirdnob gets bonuses to his magic for deep ranks.

Agreed. This is the most clear Warhammer has been, I’m just saying I wish these small details were more clear from first reading. Nitpicking? Sure, but I’m not the first to ask and there have been differing views on it and it’s good to get it cleared up early. But fine, I’m being a picky orc boy. I just want to know if my Night Gobbos should be using their pointy sticks on you when we meet in battle! 🧐 🧌 Happy Gaming.

To print or not to print...
Murphy'sLawyer replied to Brother Glacius's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
I don’t think so. I have a lot of orcs but have Avatars of War trolls and goblins that I will be using. Also their Boar Chariot is on my list of purchases for the future. I will also be using a Troggoth for a giant so I have a Troll and Orc themed army. And it’s cheaper than buying the three giant pack from AOS and my old metal giant is just tiny. I say no one should have an issue and you just need to let your opponent know what is what before the game begins. Tournaments may have restrictions but I don’t see any happening for at least a year or so. -
That’s it!!! Thank you. So Supporting attacks can still be made even if they are behind a casualty. Stepping Forward doesn’t happen until after the attacks essentially. So it’s like the guys die in the front and the second rank attacks before stepping forward over their fallen comrades. Good find! Wish this was more clear in the other places.

So I have a 100 orcs I need to rebase and three trolls to base just for starters. Anyone know of any game stores that sell bases or where to get them?

The Old World Army Builder
Murphy'sLawyer replied to Brother Glacius's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
Been putting together an Orc army using this for the last few days. Will be using this forever. I also recommend this one. I have a mean Black Orc list I’m putting together since my Orcs are more complete than my Night Gobbos. Lots of Killy Orcs with no range. Meant to get up in your face for smashy business. -
Well I asked some guys who have a connection with some GW guys about this and they responded back and said they will be having a discussion video about stepping forward soon. But yeah, new rule book, lots of questions. Kind of use to it to be honest. Never played a game where this hasn’t been true yet. Though Star Wars Legion was very nice with its small rules set. The cards are another story.

Ok, that makes more sense. Funny internet. 🙃

What in the FAQ’s did you not like?

So I’ve seen several battle reports where Spears have caused a rules confusion. Let me explain. Spears have the Fighting In Extra Rank Universal Special rule but Stepping Forward says those models that step forward can’t fight in the turn. But here’s where it gets fuzzy, Universal Rules are supposed to override standard rules but many players are saying even though spears have the Universal Special rule it still doesn’t override the Stepping Forward rule even though there is no examples explained nor is it made clear anywhere. So what does the community think? Anyone have a chance to read the core rules yet? I’ve gone over it several times and I still think the Universal Special rule overrides the Stepping Forward rule just like Army Special Rules overrides Universal Special rules, and so forth. But the confusion still remains. Thought?

So much for playing Vampire Counts
Murphy'sLawyer replied to Brother Glacius's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
A Regeneration save is stated as “A model with this special rule can make a ‘Regeneration’ save. The armour value of a Regeneration save is shown in brackets after the name of this special rule (shown here as ‘X+’). A Regeneration save can never be modified by the AP characteristic of a weapon and can be made in addition to an armour save and a Ward save. However, any wounds saved by a Regeneration save are still counted for purposes of calculating the combat result.” But are you wondering about the spell? -
I haven’t had the time to look through them but the Legacy Faction’s PDF’s are available now. Go here to unleash your armies of old: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2024/01/22/old-world-almanack-download-the-legacy-pdfs-here/ Happy Gaming! 🧌

Orks and gobbos in the Old World
Murphy'sLawyer replied to dalmer's topic in Fantasy Battles (9th Age, WFB, etc.)
Matt said it first, all nine main factions are already out in the Grand Army books and have been reviewed and broken down on YouTube if you’re interested in finding out more. Also the official PDF’s for those books are for sale right now at GW’s website. One for the forces of good and the other for the forces of Chaos. Happy Gaming. -
So Old World is here! Online Stores are sold out of the books and finding a physical copy is impossible unless you ordered one weeks ago. Is that a problem? Nope!! So on release day I went to the Games Workshop web store and got the PDF since I won’t be getting a hard copy until later (most likely much later)… and I’m very pleased. The quick links and ability to bookmark important pages along with having only to bring my iPad or phone around to look up rules is something I never knew I needed. And with my 50+ year old eyes the ability to enlarge the print is also a plus. If you’re also having a hard time finding a hard copy and want all the books in an easy to carry format have no fear, this is the way. The PDF’s are a huge win in my opinion and I have had no issues so far. Two green thumbs up from this orc boy!! 🧌 Happy Gaming everyone! It looks like the future of the Old World is bright.

You will be able to play legacy factions with the PDF’s outside of GW sanctioned tournaments. And since I don’t know of a single one held in this part of the world it shouldn’t be an issue. (This isn’t the King’s country after all.) But new stuff and faction books will not be released. That said you should check with opponents to make sure they are cool with it out of curiosity. (Not that anyone would really say no.) But again that’s just from what I’ve been reading and seeing online. Tournament holders may have different views. But legacy players should be cool and realize those factions were considered top tier with some of the newest models. I mean Dark Elves, Ogres, Daemons of Chaos and the rest having a free PDF from the go will be at an advantage over everyone else. But new players won’t be able to get those armies now unless they want to pay an outrageous price. So this is for old players who kept their armies. It all sounds good to me.
-
I know I’m late to the discussion but my opinion is that it will help balance the game. The armies left out have had balance issues and focusing on half of the factions seems to be the sweet spot by what I’ve seen and read. I remember how my Orc and Gobbos struggled hard to get a win but my Dark Elves won me more often than not and just felt too powerful when I focused on a powerful list. of course we will have to play for a while before we see if this is true but I hope all factions are close to equal as they can get so everyone has fun at the table and doesn’t dread going up against a dreaded faction. We’ll see.

I’m getting my Orc WarBand together. I have a lot of Black Orcs and Savage Orcs and I found some great proxies to fill out the rest of my list. It will be a little while before it’s all together but I figure if I start now I’ll have it ready by spring sometime. Hopefully the new releases for the orcs will be out sometime this year so I can get the Boarboyz back in my list. Haven’t been here since End Times. Long time.

So I have a large amount of Dark Angel themed troops from Terminators to Bikes but I am unsure if I should sell them as a Large Lot or as smaller lots. Obviously the large lot will come at a discount with all the bits and extras but do people still buy lots like that now?
