You're hardly ever going to get the Anvil to work dkieft, it is a bound magic item, remember most people take a wizard lord and get +4 to dispell, so it means you have to throw two extra dice over what is needed just to have a chance. I also disagree, immune to psych on a leadership 10 army with a BSB is pointless. I don't understand how they justify the points.
  2. You can get a 1+ and 2+ saves on characters, but no reroll, although my italian sucks.
  3. I saw the italian version of the book. There are some good things, there are some bad things, overall I'm a little underwhelmed, and I'm usually the guy that puts the positive spin on everything. I'm determined to make it work however, but for lists 2400 points or less, I don't see how anything less than a solid gun line will do in order to be competitive, which pisses me off because it will mean more whining from my opponents, "oh you play dwarfs." I think at 2800 points you can build an aggressive list that will be solid, but only playing and testing will tell, which I plan to do a lot of. Here is what I can say for sure: 1. Magic defense blows, almost every list will include two runesmiths, because they have too in order to have two scrolls. 2. Magic defense blows, so you will have to take a hammerer unit so you can have the rune of valaya so you can get an extra +2 to dispel (total of +4) 3. Anvil sucks.....badly.....super badly......has three bound spells that any good player will never let you get off, and even if they let you, the effects suck. 4. Did I say the Anvil sucks? 5. Dwarfs build the best armour in the warhammer world......in fluff only, not the rules, every other army out there just about can get better than 3+ armour saves. 6. Hammerers Rock! 7. Slayers got worse and better at the same time, slayer characters are now terrible, too expensive for what they do. 8. Hand weapon shield dwarfs got better, much better, but are not going to win you games, they will just not lose you games. 9. Dwarf handguns got worse, I guess because everyone was abusing them before. 10. Gyros are amazing, they are finally what they always should have been. 11. Some war machines took a hit, some got better, it is a mixed bag. Why are bolt throwers more expensive? I have no idea, but my flame cannon will be useable again. 12 Iorn drakes are fantastic, move and shoot, can have a vanguard banner, yeah! 13. We are great at charging especially with the new magic horn, Devastating charge and +1 strength when charging are all good but......why?????? I will be taking a lot of runes of slowness to take advantage of this item and rule. 14. Our combat characters took a huge hit, not because there aren't any cool runes, there are a lot of great ones, but they all cost an arm and a leg and forget having a tank. 15. Other than the anvil, we still have nothing to do in the magic phase, did I mention the anvil sucks? 16. Magic Standards are a huge bonus, the runes for our standards will be our saving grace. 17. Almost everything good costs more, while everything mediocre also cost more (Iornbreakers and Slayers). Sorry if I put a cloud of grey over anyones sunshine, I just had high hopes after the last few books because they were so good (with the exception of lizards, why are all the monsters over costed?) that I expected more. I really think our gun line tactics will work well at low point values with this new book, and it will compete, but until people change their attitudes, especially in our area, it is going to be a tough road for dwarfs.

  5. They are 20mm, I have a few. They are okay, good enough to where a nice paint job can make them work well, the problem I have with them is that they have a lot of flat plastic areas. If cost of an army is what is getting in your way of playing, then by all means go with them, If I was starting over I would give it some serious consideration. Again they aren't bad, however I will say they are not nearly as good or detailed as GW, Scibor or Avatars of War.

  8. In the old days, fantasy chaos use to have access to 40k weapons from their random chaos chart. The idea is that time has no meaning in the warp.

  12. I think it is a better bet the Rangers will be rare Gamer Geek. Here is the first leaked army wide rules, was confirmed from two sources, you be the judge on how reliable it is: Ancestral grudge, roll a D6 before the first turn. On 1-2 your general hates the enemy's general. On 3-4 your characters hate all enemy characters. On 5-6 your army hates the entire enemy army. Resolute, charging units have +1 strength Relentless, cannot be marchblocked.
  13. I still think Vanguard is better than a 5+ save vs shooting. It means you get shot for two less turns, which is way better than a 5 + ward vs shooting, and much more slayer like.
  14. South Salem, like West Salem, is nice and has some really good schools, do not move to North Salem though, some places are nice but some are not so safe and the schools are hit and miss. Really, I think Salem is a little Vanilla. Nice restaurants have a hard time staying open, it is a very meat and potatoes type of town, which some people like, I don't, I like the variety of Portland. There is practically no night life, everything is closed by 6, it's like living in a retirement community. There are some nice things available though, like CSA boxes, good recycling center, and a great game store. Beware though, Salem does have a lot of petty crime, we have several jails in the area and families tend to move here to be closer to loved ones, and those loved ones statistically tend to stay in the town they are released. I'm not judging, it's just important to point it out. The thing I like about Salem is that you are an hour from everywhere. 1 hour from the coast, 1 hour from the mountains, 1 hour from Portland. Personally, I call Salem the black hole. I keep escaping Salem by moving some place else, only to get sucked right back, last time I was in Gresham (near Sandy) when I got caught in Salem's gravitational pull once again. It's not the worst place to live, I lived in a lot of places that I would never recommend (Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Illinois), it's just not ideal for me, but it might be for you.
  15. Yes, two attacks for hammerers is awesome, I agree it will make that unit much better. I will trim down my horde of hammerers to a much more manageable size of 21 in a 7 x 3 formation. Assuming they still have stubborn that is.
  16. I think army wide MR (1) and allow re-roll of armour save rolls of 1 would be good. I really don't want ward saves, ward saves are for those sissy pointed eared backstabbers. I agree Gromril on Hammerers and Longbeards, and Rune of Stone with Ironbreakers. Maybe a wall shield for the Iornbreakers too, give them a 1+ save. But I want armour to be our strong point, not wish saves.
  17. I think Slayers should have Vanguard, devastating charge, slayer skill wound everything on 4+ not just T6 or lower, and cost 10 points. I don't want them to have any saves of any kind.
  18. I go for the one a month approach. Buy one kit a month, and a character now and then, and by the end of the year you have a pretty good force.

  22. If you look at the detail of the slayer it is amazing, but I agree the leaping thing is not quite working, but being plastic it should be easy to fix.

  24. Strange that that list would score so high RD. It looks like a pretty good list with lots of potential power, proper deployment and movement, which we all know you do well, will get you to the top tables.
