Are we assuming the new codex will be $25.00 or have prices been leaked somewhere. I figured with the hardback they we going back up to $50.00 per codex again.

Someone with inside info told me $25 but they could be wrong

  2. you can easily get more command points if you re-arrange...

just move the 3 kroot squads into a separate batallion, along with two of your HQ choices (one from the battalion and one from the outrider).

aside from that, the list just seems really soft. you obviously like kroot, but they won't be doing you much favors except acting as a screen for 1 or 2 turns. i would take fewer and get some more long range shooting, like you said.

  3. NOTE that this is only for the BAO...could easily change immediately after.

Frontline is sending around the latest ITC format poll. Only three questions:

    1. Would you prefer to play the current ITC 8th ed modified book missions which only have end of game objectives or would you prefer to play layered missions similar to the 7th ed ITC missions with turn by turn objectives and end of game objectives?

    • I would prefer to play the current 8th ed ITC modified book missions with end of game objectives at the BAO 2017.
    • I would prefer to play layered missions with turn by turn objectives and end of game objectives at the BAO 2017.

    2. Would you prefer to use the very large models at the BAO 2017 such as the Warhound Titan, Revenant Titan, Thunderhawk Gunship, Ta'unar Supremacy Suit, the "Super Chicken" Tzeentch Daemon Lord, etc? We define this as any unit with a Power Level of 31 or more (Imperial Knights are Power Level 23 for example).

    • No. I would prefer not to use units with a power level of 31 or greater for the BAO 2017.
    • Yes. I would prefer to use models with a power level of 31 or greater at the BAO 2017.

    3. Games Workshop announced that the Space Marine codex is coming out later this month (July) which means it may be released less than a week before the BAO 2017. Would you prefer to use that material (or any other Codexes that may be released this month) at the BAO 2017 or would you prefer not to?

    • No. I would prefer not to use the Space Marine or other new Codexes released in July at the BAO 2017.
    • Yes. I would prefer to use the Space Marine or other new Codexes released in July at the BAO 2017.

    I answered B, A, B

    Thoughts?

Yeah,,thats my take on it too,,and the only wierd thing is the nearest enemy model could be across the board, but oh well, heh.

Just keep in mind that you can move anywhere with your consolidation so long as you end a teensy bit closer to the nearest enemy model. So it actually gives you quite a bit of flexibility sometimes.

    Huh?

He's referring to the new FAQ that says you can take understrength units. Basically people are gonna have lots of brigade detachments with no downsides if they're playing with an itc style kill point mission.

Re: the basilisk/manticore youre right that it comes down to longevity in most cases but I think the manticore also shines against a lot of otherwise hard-to-kill targets like terminators, thunder wolves, ogryns..just multi-wound low toughness stuff in general. It'll take you two or three turns to delete one of those with your basilisk where the manticore can do it in one. Same against targets with very high wounds like knights or other super heavies.

  6. no more imagifiers giving exorcists and other stuff acts of faith:

Page 98 – Imagifier, Simulacrum Imperialis Change the first sentence of this ability to read: ‘Roll a D6 at the start of each of your turns; on a 4+ you can pick a friendly unit within 6" of this model that has the Acts of Faith ability and perform an Act of Faith with it.’

Anectodal evidence here, actually could be an oversight but A WGPL for Bloodclaws costs 2 PL points but  is free in the points system.WGPL in Termy army costs more in points though.

Not free, costs the same as a standard model from the parent unit. But yeah still an example of where the noise in PL comes from.

  8. Even if you're playing a narrative game, it's not like power levels make the game more narrative. The only things they do are save a little time and give you less control over the relative strength of the armies involved. If I'm playing a narrative game and want your army to be twice as strong as mine (as some of the narrative missions recommend), using points guarantees that you get the desired ratio.

Tldr- points and casual/narrative play are *not* incompatible; in fact, in many situations they are *more* compatible.

    My favorite so far

and in fairness i did warn him about the ability pre deployment, there just wasnt a lot of way for his setup to mitigate it.

I dunno, to me it still sounds like a major misplay. Most imperial vehicles are less than 6" wide. He should have just stuck them sideways against his table edge and bubble-wrapped them by placing an infantry squad or two on the deployment line. That means it's impossible to get close enough for melta range (half range, that is) even if you roll a 6 for your advance scout move. Take advantage of terrain properly and you can extend the bubble further.

Even without putting it on the line, you have:

    12" + D6 Scout Move

12" Move and Shoot out the hatches

So 36" + D6 Range of your meltaguns on turn one is pretty nice.

Definitely nice. But putting the important stuff in back and a few less significant/vulnerable units in the way means you won't be pulling this trick twice. Some people never learn though...

I played a 2000 point game over the weekend where I ran an outrider detachment and used dominions instead of regular battle sisters and just gave each squad 2 meltaguns and repressors. Being able to scout move and then normal move on t1 and be within melta range of my enemies tanks felt over the top powerful. I had crippled almost everything of value by the end of my second turn.

Kudos exploiting your opponent's ignorance! Bet they won't be deploying their valuable armor on the deployment line any more ;)

  13. Just curious: what are your thoughts on inferno pistols for the seraphim? I was underestimating them because I hadn't considered that, when the units in a continuing cc during your turn, they can fire them in the shooting phase before the enemy gets to attack. It's basically three or four guaranteed kills if your opponent didn't fall back, and they aren't terribly expensive. Also makes the unit great for tank and flyer hunting.

You can disagree with it. GW put up a FAQ stating such.

Just as you can't attack units you did not charge on a turn you charged, you can't attack units in a transport.

This is the same as those units you Consolidated into can't overwatch you.

You did not charge the units inside the transport so they can't Overwatch. That is the logic behind that ruling.

    This makes sense to me
