  1. Thanks for all the feedback. Here's an updated list with some various changes: -Took out Gerantus, replaced him w/ a regular knight -Broke up the bike star and split the units to a more managable size -Changed the chapter tactics to iron hands (makes more sense for admech anyways) -Changed the tau side to a more assault-y feel SM: Chapter tactics: Iron hands HQ: Chapter master (bike, shield eternal, TH) Troops: Bike squad (4x bikes, 1x atk bike, 2x grav, 1x melta) Bike squad (4x bikes, 1x atk bike, 2x grav, 1x melta) Bike squad (4x bikes, 1x atk bike, 2x grav, 1x melta) Scout squad (10x scouts) Heavy support: Stormraven (melta, assault cannons) Tau: HQ: Farsight Troops: Crisis team (3x, stimulant injectors, 2x flamers each, 2x shield drones (total)) Fast atk: xv109 Y'vahra battlesuit (Ion discharge cannon, plasma-flamer) Knight errant As for the open, I understand that's an option, but I've already got a team put together for the team event.
  2. Hey guys. I'm lookin to bring a friendlier list to OFCC this year (lots of folks are not super excited to play against drop pods, it turns out). I'm hoping to bring an admech painted list, so I'm taking models from a few different codexs to represent 'em. Also trying to have a wide variety of types of units, which I feel leads to more fun games. I would love some feedback on the list below, in terms of would you enjoy playing against it. If not, what things could be changed to improve that? Thanks for the help. SM side: White Scars chapter tactics HQ: Chapter master (bike, shield eternal, artificer armor, thunderhammer) Troops: Bike squad (6x bikes, atk bike, 2x grav guns, multimelta) Bike squad (6x bikes, atk bike, 2x grav guns, multimelta) Heavy support: Stormraven (multi-melta, assault cannon) Tau allies: HQ: Cadre Fireblade Elites: Riptide (ion accel, plasma, early warning override) Troops: Fire warrior squad (9x, pulse rifles) Fire warrior squad (9x, pulse rifles) Heavy support: Broadside unit (3x, sms, early warning override) Knight detachment: Knight Gerantius
  3. I've got some sweet gas mask/ goggle heads I'm using for the bandits. Also replacing weapon with random, multicolored guns (except special weapons to avoid confusion)
  4. It's one of the Reaper chronoscope line. They've got some really great stuff, although converting metal models is not something I enjoy doing on a regular basis. :)
  5. Finished converting up Captain Scarlett to lead my merry band of bandits into battle. More green stuff work than I'm used to, and a lot of really small plastic work. C&c encouraged as usual. :)
  6. Imperial fist bumps will be returning for their second year. :)
  7. In an attempt to get back on topic: I've had relative success with a few units for anti-flyer support: A pair of Stormtalons with skyhammer missiles are great harassment units, serve as decent anti-flyer support, and will deal with most back field objective holders in a pinch. If you decide to go the forge world route, pick up a Cerestus Knight Castigator. It's a knight (13-12-12, 4+ ion shield) so it's pretty survivable, has a t.l. str 7 ap 3 heavy 8 gun, as well as some assault shenanigans. It's great against hordes, and has killed many flyrants in it's days. Also, it's only 380 pts. I consider it one of the best TAC units right now, and fits into any LOW slot (so no need to ally in anything)
  8. I'm not angry at anyone, just curious to see what other's opinions on the matter were. :)
  9. What color spray base coat did you use for those white scars again, Chris? :)
  10. Wow, I had no idea this was such a hot button topic. For clarification, best painted was won by a commission army at a recent gt (and rightfully so, the army was gorgeous), which came with some prize support. The event was using the ITC rules format, which makes no distinction between a player painted army and a commissioned army, so no one was in the wrong. It's interesting to see the varying options everyone has on the subject.
  11. Alright, discussion time. What is everyone's opinions on being eligible to win a best painted award with an army that was commissioned / bought? Should you have to paint your army yourself, or is the award reserved for the best of the best, no matter the artist? I would love to hear your thoughts.
  12. Not to derail the current conversation, but maybe there's a simple-ish solution to some of the problems people have with the current system. Maybe we can use the built in polling tool that the forums have to rate lists. People could submit their lists to one of the admins, who would repost the list with a rating poll (to keep the lists anonymous). There's a lot of passionate people on this site, and the beauty of technology is that everyone can voice their opinion without using any resources. I think this method would take some pressure off of the people who rate lists, and possibly end up with a more well balanced event in the end.
  13. So, picked up some oil paints to try oil washes. Hoping to do some brown "weathering" with the stuff, we'll see how it goes. Updates when I get the chance. :)
  14. I've been debating using weathering powders or not. I'm trying to replicate the paint scheme in the game, which is entirely cell shaded, so adding non-painted texture would deviate from the scheme, but visually it would look good. So, I don't know yet.
  15. Finished up a test model. For the basic troops, I wanted to use Kabalite warriors models, since I'll be using a lot of them, and had some around. I did a little converting, and for future models will be doing a head swap for a more bandit-y look, but here's the basic idea. Borrowing from the visual style of the game, I outline most of the shadows in black lines to accentuate the drawing-like quality, and won't be using any metallics in the color scheme. Armor will vary from yellow to red, just to add some variation, and add to the ramshackle look. What do you think? I would love suggestions.
  16. So, got sucked into making gingerbread houses with the gf. I said screw that, and made a tank. :) Complete with gummy bear pilot and candy sword. Enjoy.
  17. So, finally got started with my Borderlands dark eldar force. Figured I'd start with the sand skiffs, as I've got a few I've got to convert up. Here's the model, obviously still have some stuff to add (waiting for heads and bits for the guys hanging off), but you get the gist. And a reference picture of what I'm shooting for. I would love some input. Thoughts?
  18. Having the pillars be made of speakers would be cool. Or, having the entire thing be a massive stage, ala Brutal Legend:
  19. I'm currently converting the sand skiffs from some Raiders I bought off a friend. :) I'll get some wip pictures up on the artificers forge when I get the chance.
  20. Updates! So, found a bunch of models and stuff for the army, and hopefully will be ordering stuff over the next couple months. For Venom stand-ins, found these MDF models: Link These guys will be my bikers: Link And Psychos! Link
  21. Those outcast models are pretty darn close to what I'm looking for. As for Ramshackle games, I've favorited it for further vehicle orders. Those are great. :) Any ideas on making the gw dark eldar models a little more borderlands-y?
  22. So, after a couple years of work finishing up my Imperial Fist space marines, I'm looking to start a new endeavor. I've always enjoyed the Borderlands series, and it has a real cool aesthetic I think I can replicate on the table-top. I've started gathering some dark eldar Raiders to convert into Skiffs, and will be ordering some buggies (perfect scale replicas of those in game) to use as Venoms, but have hit a wall trying to find some various infantry models. Mostly looking to get psychos, some of the pirate enemies, and captain Scarlett. You guys have any suggestions on places to find some Borderlands-y models to convert? I'm also planning on running Eldar allies, so if you've got any vehicle suggestions that could work for wave serpents, that would be awesome.
  23. Totally forgot about LOtD, them plus Vulkan should do just fine. Castigator knight is something I've been considering, does anyone have any play experience with it? Also, the Castigator seems to take care of some of the horde issue, but, really, with Orks not seeing a ton of play at big tourneys (same with horde nids), Guard blobs are really the only army I'm a bit worried about with this list.
  24. Sorry that the Salamanders gw is referencing are not amphibians... Anyways, clarification time: -stern are 5 man squads, maybe I'll make 'em bigger with the extra points -Also, didn't think about the fact that the bolter on a combi weapon would also be master crafted. Neat! -@fluger: Yeah, it's definitely similar to what you played. I did really well with that list, where I usually don't perform as well in a tournament format. Figured I'd fine tune this one. :) What do you guys think of the command squad? Haven't used one before, are they pretty points effective?
  25. Well, really, Salamanders in drop pods. Anyways, trying out some new things, wondering what your thoughts are on a list along these lines. Looking to be fairly competitive, so any feedback is appreciated. salamanders: 1750 Vulkan Command squad (5x melta guns, pod) Sterguard (2x heavy flamers, pod) Sterguard (2x heavy flamers, pod) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Thunderfire cannon Knight-Castigator There's a few extra points, but nothing big.
