Character question. Okay, got my 25x50 mounted character. Attach him to my unit of thirteen 25x25 based standard size models. If our front rank is 5 standard models, how many Full Ranks do we have?

Kinda confused at the "displacing" concept. Does the model on the 25x50 base effectively count as 2 models for ranks in a 25x25 base unit?

You have three Full Ranks. For the purposes of ranks, he counts as two models. I am a particular abuser of this rule as I have my 60x100 Plague Pendulum in a unit of of 20 20x20 Plague Brotherhood. This means when I am five wide I have a total of seven Full Ranks.

Oh, another another weird one. Can my model's Advance stat be higher than my March stat?

The "Titanslayer Chariot" for daemons has 7" Advance and 7" March and an upgrade for +1" advance. I feel like I'm missing something key here, or it's a typo.

There is no rule requiring that March be higher than Advance.  Historically chariots couldn't march. Rather than have a separate rule saying "cannot march", they just set the March rate such that you will never choose to march. I suppose there is no reason they couldn't have set it to 0, since you will never use it.

  2. Pivot specifically comes up in two contexts:

    1. Single models units can pivot as many times as they want while advancing (aka not charging). Monsters, single chariots, etc.
    2. Post combat pivot. After you win combat, the enemy flees and you choose not to pursue/overrun, you can either pivot or reform. The key bit here is that you lose scoring until the beginning of the next player turn. This is to prevent winning a combat on the last turn and then reforming into a 20-30 wide conga line in order to get an objective. Also, you cannot charge immediately after performing a post combat reform (so if you finish a combat on the enemy turn, you cannot reform and then charge on your turn). I guess that's two key bits.
  3. I just tried it in Battlescribe with a Miser general and it seemed to work. However, I had to select Greed General on the Miser instead of Army General.

That said, Army Builder is the best, so keep using it 🙂 I only use Battlescribe because there's a mobile app and I can use it on the toilet. That's where my best lists seem to come from 🙂

  4. Blade Dancers always do more then than should on paper. I learned that lesson the hard way 10 years ago.

Say you bring a unit of 15 and stick a BSB and some blender lord in there. Maybe a wizard too (somehow situated in the second rank, for safety). Between the unit and the BSB, you should have MR 3. That makes spells pretty hard to cast on that unit, requiring an extra dice. Hard Target + Forest (because really, you'll be in a forest) make shooting difficult. All that leaves is combat. In combat, your blender lord + BSB will cause some nice wounds while the Dancers will use the Dance of the Parting Mists.

Deathstars do not need to be able to wipe out the enemy singlehandedly. Being a safe place to hide all your points is good enough.  Note that safe does not mean invincible. You only to make the unit tough enough to cause your opponent to decide, "you know, I'm going to cast/shoot/charge something else instead of try to deal with that unit."

Are you turning to the good side now?

Of course not. I just have to trick people into using it to their detriment... like @Jason when I cast -1 to hit on his catapult.. that couldn't shoot that turn.

@BenKerr I searched the T9A forums and 85% of the mentions for The Wheel Turns were in Dread Elf threads. The other 15% were in the rules question thread along the lines of "do I still get weapon bonuses".

I am feeling Witchcraft still. If the enemy has a big unit of S6 or S7 (Feldraks, Bruisers, Winged Reapers), it could be very useful. Otherwise I just need to figure out how to use Raven's Wing properly. I.E. not bum-rushing the opponent.  It's like not flooring the gas pedal or not mag dumping, neither of which I am very good at.

  6. Quote

Melee Attacks made by R&F models in the target unit are set to wound on a 4+, and Close Combat Attacks made by R&F models in the target unit additionally are set to hit on a 4+, regardless of Offensive Skill, Defensive Skill, Strength, and Resilience. Apply this effect before other to-hit and to-wound modifiers.

I removed the boosted version for clarity. Yes, the spell won't cause my Pendulum to wound on a 4+ as it is not a Rank and File model, but wouldn't it force my opponent to wound me on 4s? It doesn't say "attacks made by R&F models towards R&F models", just "attacks made by R&F models".

Quick maths! I don’t think dropping the hulks down to regular ones is worth it. But I think a couple clan rats, some swarms, and a couple magic items might. Also gives you another channel too.

Hmm. Looking at Witchcraft, I see, in order, a movement spell, a spell that is effectively +1 to hit (and go first I guess) a, shooting hex and The Wheel Turns, which I feel would be dangerous for my Pendulum in most circumstances. Great Weapon units notwithstanding.

Thaum I see a Magic Missile, a great hex, an decent hex and a breath weapon.

Considering my worse case scenario with the Crown of the Wizard King is a Magic Missile (pyro, alchemy) and Rod of Battle... Thaum might be the way to go.

    My choices end up being:

    1. Raven's Wing and Deceptive Glamour
    2. Hand of Heaven/Cleansing Fire and Smite the Unbeliever
    3. Random Spell and Rod of Battle.

I'll probably just roll a dice before list submission 🙂

You could drop the wizard hat and rod of battle, and rat swarms and 1 clanrat and get a naked magister for 2 spells for witchcraft which could give you some good hexes/buffs. Or thaum for another missile or debuff. Idk now set you are on the rat swarms

That's a very specific answer. Hmm. How attached am I to the Rat Swarms... A Witchcraft Magister was one of my solutions but I dropped the Thunder Hulks down to Vermin Hulks for it.
