Check Tourney section. LH posted it a few days ago.

Models embarked in vehicles that allow their passengers to shoot only allow them to shoot in the Shooting Phase. He's interpreting this to mean no Overwatch.
I disagree with that, but I understand his argument.
You can disagree with it. GW put up a FAQ stating such.
Just as you can't attack units you did not charge on a turn you charged, you can't attack units in a transport.
This is the same as those units you Consolidated into can't overwatch you.
You did not charge the units inside the transport so they can't Overwatch. That is the logic behind that ruling.

This Riptides story is that it held off a task force of a Daemon Prince leading a Renegade Knight and Havoc Squad against a flank of the Vesh’yo's forces,or at least what they think is a flank.

I did fix the packs. They are all the base Grey now and better touched up.

So I am a cruel person... and some of this will likely make some of you squirm. I would apologize... but I am not sorry at all.
Here are my HQ units.
Here is the current status of my Shas’O Coldstar Commander. I need to start painting her and figure out the rest of her base.

Yes, there is a Firefly reference in that picture. Can you find it on the Coldstar Commander?

Which event is this? Where?

Hmmm It is looking like Saturday 's at Portland Game Store may become the day. Hmmmm would mean sharing with whatever Dropfleet Players show up.

1: Enjoy the relaxed nature of the nerfs. Since everyone has been nerfed, everyone has a chance.
2: Have fun, learn your rules, enjoy it all
3: Cover is not easy to get
4: Mass infantry is a thing. Be warned!
5: Rerolls are important. Make sure you have some.

I may be joining the league,,finally,,been meaning to get into it for years but 6th and 7th sapped my desire to play.Probably going to hold off till after OFCC though.
I may go back. . . Its been years for me. It is big and can be intimidating especially with those high level competitive players. Back during the end of 5th, they did not have a "Causal" league

sadly, 5pm leaves me searching to find things to do for hours (3.5) before those games. Unfortunate - but I get off work at 1:30 ...
My current job is out by 330 and I am in NW Portland. No idea how long it will take me to get to PGS from there.

I stopped at the beginning of 6th so it has been 4-5 years for me.

I've noticed that power levels tend to breakdown at higher points. I made up two 2k points lists. One was 114 power the other 152.
Yet a Tau list I made for 100 PL that was 100 exactly came out to 1954 in points or so.

Riptide is coming along nicely. Needs more work but it is getting there nicely. Heat damage came out... So beautifully!

Has anyone found a reliable list generator?
Battlescribe is one.

I won both games but it is true that my list was a "7th Edition list" as you say. The Tau Empire were one of the two games I mentioned playing and it was against them that the melee issue was as pronounced as it was. In fact it would seem that the main positive impact of this brave new world falls to "lesser" combatants because...simply put...they are units that would otherwise be dead...but aren't. I killed 5, he rolled a 3, he lost one more and fell back. half the unit still alive and screening. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
You can see how much longer it would take to finish units this way. Two whole turns for a dedicated melee unit to wipe a single Tau Fire Warrior Squad? and lord forbid if he rolls the 6 for leadership because he auto-succeeds on a 6! It's kind of a thing.
I cannot wait to try playing my IG this way. Lol. It's just too hilarious to contemplate after what i saw against tau Empire.
So what you are saying is that you need a more balanced list that will let you Shoot and Assault in ways that will let you take more units off the table better.

Well... I don't think the complexity is the issue. What i cited as issues is the loss of Sweeping Advance and the loss of a subsequent melee phase. Both things combine to keep enemy units alive FAR longer than before. I also had mentioned that Morale did not do enough to compensate for this. So there is a lot of built in fortitude there for units that would have been routinely done and gone. This would have left you i nthe open in both versions. the difference is there wouldnt be two units sitting in front of you that should be dead...and aren't.
It's a big deal. Truly. This seemed to elongate our rounds quite a bit.
It could be that you were using a 7th edition list in 8th edition environment. Your CC weapons could of changed based on how they work now or your choices of units. CC can be more grinding but at the same time, every time I loose a ton of models to CC and moral. Then again, I play Tau and we just fold

This is the weirdest conversation I have had about the new edition. I really get the feeling the OP is reaching to find negative things to say about the new edition. And it hasn't even been out a week yet.
I don't know what the tournament scene is going to look like for you dude. However, I am pretty sure that there will be tournaments. And at these tournaments there will be terrain, and people with cheezy armies that going to going to mini/max like crazy. Just like it ever was. So don't worry.
You got this.
It hasn't been out for 96 hours yet.
The game is new, not like old editions so it will take time to get used to.
LoS blocking terrain is very important these days. Ruins will help infantry will be helpful as well.

2K. Practice for the tournament. almost identical list to what i played in 7 to keep things simple and he was playing an army we both knew exceedingly well. The changes made sense. I cannot place my finger on what took us so long though. We had rules questions but... That was not the issue. the issue was the way melee worked. Things just die harder than they did before, especially on the lower end of things, So there was a lot more alive later in the game than would have been the case in the previous edition. THAT felt like the number one reason. As I mentioned before, that piece of things REALLY changed the length of the game. If he had a more "super elite army" or something it might not have been as long but even against Guard hordes I have usually finished my games in 2.5 hours at tournaments.
It will speed up. I know that of course. I am going to be keenly watching time and such though. The build is going to greatly determine the length in a way i don't think it really ever has before.
Melee is easy though. Just like shooting. As long as you know your weapon stats then it is a thing.
Being able to fall back is important becuase you. Can get Charges in T1. Melee is toned down becuase it is so easy to get into.
It will take time to get used too.

Well, I mean these are learning games so i don't think we were trying to set records or beat a deadline. I'd call that pretty casual.
So time spent is meaningless because you don't have the experience with your new stats or rules, nor the rules of the game to have an accurate judge.
How big were the games?

So, how many times did you have to check rules and stats?
Were you playing for speed or casual?
Are you both normally fast players?

I think this edition will be good for the game. It has excited many and the fact that GW has used player input to make it better is a VAST improvement over their old methods.
I am happy to be back. Oh, I will likely never win but meh.
Nothing is the same as it was in the past, of you come into this with an expectation, you will likely become dissatisfied.

I vote for player skill. Fun times happen when it's down to player skill. Well, as long as it doesn't turn into EVE style player skill

That's kind of off the subject. whether or not games are going more or less quickly for some, i am curious if anyone is doing some things to mitigate time in the general sense.
