  1. I’m perfectly okay with fouling (I already have two Peasants with Dirty Player), its a perfectly valid way to get players off the field or at least turn a knock down into a stun. I do find Turn 16 fouls to be very unsportsmanlike. It’s totally legal under the rules, so I won’t complain if it’s done... But I won’t do it personally. Stalling is pretty subjective: Did he run his ball carrier two squares short of the end zone because he wanted to stall or did he want to play it safe and not risk the GFI? A person’s opinion on this is often tied directly to whether or not they’re the one scoring the point.
  2. If any vehicles could be easily retcon’d into having space for an extra passenger or two, it’s the open-topped platforms of the Drew Carey Drunk Harry Drukhari. It’s also weird that they’ve never given Dark Eldar HQ’s an option for a jetbike (or even a hover board). Unfortunately, with GW’s recent practice of “if it ain’t in the box, it ain’t in the book” it is highly unlikely we’ll ever see an Archon on a ‘bike. I’d be totally cool with a Dark Eldar player deciding to model an Archon on a jetbike and proxying it as a Ynnari Craftworld Autarch on a bike.

I feel that the Dark Eldar (all the xenos, really, but the Dark Eldar most of all) are just gonna have to once again “suck it up” for a year and a half until GW finally pushes out a codex for them. But I wouldn’t fret too much. The board isn’t getting smaller, only the “no man’s land” between deployment zone borders is. If there are also less models on the table, that will make maneuvering even more important. Both players will need to cover the same amount of space, but with fewer bodies to do it, allowing for the Dark Eldar to actually play the “hit and run” style they were designed for.

  6. It’s very hard to estimate points in a vacuum; under the current structure of the game and the Space Marine codices, 50 ±5 Points per Outrider seems reasonable to me. However, that’s based on the current prices of everything else remaining static... and we’ve been given a lot of pretty credible reasons to believe an across the board increase in points is coming. (I’ve just started collecting a Custodes force, which means I’ve been lurking around the Reddit threads and Bolter & Chainsword boards devoted to them trying to figure out paint schemes. These guys all seem especially salty about the Vertus Praetors getting any sort of reduction in efficiency... Which strikes me as misguided as they are one of the more ridiculously powerful units in 8th Edition! I’m not surprised of course — the salt must flow – but I am amused.)
  7. A retailer needn't lose money, even if it's customers are saving money. When GW first rolled out the Primaris units, they didn't give Sergeants any upgrade options at all... and a few months later, they reversed that. I'm going to assume that Primaris Outrider Sergeants will have power swords by the time the proper multipart kit hits the shelves, even if they only have chainswords in the Indomitus box. The real "x factor" for these guys is going to be their points cost. There's already a salty thread about them on r/AdeptusCustodes where people are moaning about how much better they are than the Dawneagle Jetbikers.
  8. Gasp! You can’t put a black charge on a purple, blue, red, or green field! Didn’t I already harangue you about this!? I warn you, I am fully prepared to harangue a second time. Maybe even philippic admonition if need be.

If it takes X points worth of models to build a 2,000 Point army today, but only takes (X*0.80) points worth of models to build an army next week, then there will necessarily be a reduction in the amount of models you need to buy. If the cost of models remains the same, that means it will cost less to buy a full army’s worth.
  10. Considering the fluff is quite clear that Death Company Squads are formed by taking other Blood Angels out of their squads, painting their armor black, and then setting them loose... This is actually more accurate than having specific sculpts for the Death Company models. (Also, why proxy Ish when you’ve got access to the genuine article? I’m right here!)
  11. Today’s Citadel is probably a lot more fiscally sound, market savvy, and just generally more consistent... But dammit, there was a certain charm to the “nerdy British metal-heads who built a business in mum’s shed” ethos of the old days. I kinda miss the days when Warhammer looked more like the airbrushed mural on the side of some dude’s van.

It’s no coincidence that Bolt Action was written by Rick Priestley and Alessio Cavatore; Priestly of course created WH40k and Cavatore cut his teeth as one of the design team for WH40k Third Edition... which was sort of the last time GW really targeted this “sweet spot.” Both men left the company not too much later.
  15. Indeed, once every year or two a game of “I put all my toys on the table, you put all your toys on the table, and let’s play for twelve hours straight!” is a wonderful thing. So too is the occasional “sweep the leg” hard-core competitive tournament. But mostly, I just want to 🐂 💩 with my friends while we take three hours to play a two hour game... and that’s the gameplay mode I think the designers should be designing for.
  16. Three or four squads of basic Troops, one or two Heroes, one or two supporting Elite Units, Giant Stompy Robots, or Big Tanks. That’s the “sweet spot” for me in any wargame. Have one or two factions that double the above numbers because they’re “horde armies,” have one or two factions that half those numbers because they’re “elite armies,” for variety, of course... But that’s still within the “sweet spot.”

To be fair, these models will work just fine as is for every single Space Marine faction in the game except Space Wolves, Deathwatch, and Grey Knights... and the Space Wolves can use all the basic troops, as is, with only the Chaplain really failing to fit it. These models don’t have any chapter-specific iconography actually sculpted into them, making them more useful than the heavily icon-covered Dark Angels that came in the 7th Edition boxed set.
  18. I dunno, apart from the Chaplain and the Judicar, most of them should work just fine as Space Wolves. Order some more Viking-esque shields from Pop Goes the Monkey or Scibor for the Captain and the Bladeguard Veterans, slap some bearded and/or mohawked heads on the Assault Intercessors, and swap out the Ancient’s skeleton-on-a-stick for something more wolfy... The Judicar could probably be converted into a Space Wolf Rune Priest with some clever converting. Greenstuff in the inscription on the sword, add the worky bits to make it into a force sword, add a bit of fur trim to his robes, and replace the hand holding the hour glass with a dramatic pointing hand... Oi, you lot! This frost-blade is going in dry!

I love the aesthetic of the Intercessor Primaris Marines, the Hellblasters, the Reivers, and the new Bikes; I’m neutral on most everything else; but, I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate the Repulsor. As I said earlier in this thread, I’d have preferred they just did a simple replacement of the old Mk.7 Aquila Armor sculpts with the new Mk.10 Tacitus Armor (and replaced Scout models with the Reivers models), keeping the classic Tactical/Assault/Devastator Squads trifecta. But they didn’t do that... So here we are.
