AgentP
I'm really drawn to the bio-mechanical look of some of the chaos line. I'd love to build an army emphasizing these models, but need help. How would people build a good chaos list, either CSM/Daemons, or Daemons/CSM that featured a healthy number of bio-mechanical models such as: Juggernaught Maulerfiend / Forgefiend Heldrake Helbrute Cannon of Khorne Blood Slaughterer (FW unit) Plague Hulk (FW) Soul Grinder Blight Drone Blood Crushers
WestRider
You can get some solid mileage out of a fast assault spam list. Three MaulerFiends, lord on Juggernaut with Spawn/Bikes for an escort, Helldrake or two, a couple of Helbrutes to help with AV12 saturation, a couple Squads of CSM in Rhinos, something like that. Blood Crushers with a Herald on Juggernaut would fit in there nicely as well, and a Skull Cannon wouldn't go awry. Deep Strike in some Bloodletters, take some Khorne Dogs in FA and maybe steampunk them up a bit. I haven't thrown in the Daemon Allies, but I've had fun with a pure CSM version. It's not top tier, but it's far from terrible, and it's got a lot of potential to make your opponent pay dearly for even minor slips. JMGraham
Made a 2000 point chaos list that really got me excited once, though I don't have the models for it. Typhus 3 Helbrutes A maulerfiend (the fighty one) 2 slaughter fiends? (the snooty ones) 2 heldrakes And most of the rest filled out by max sized units of plague zombies (running as mechanithrall type techno zombies) Ended up having an obscene amount of traits to swarm objectives, with all the rest daemon forged techno beasts. I think you can do some pretty cool stuff with the theme.
AgentP
Oh, and I forgot to add that I clearly need a Khorne Lord of Skulls, because who doesn't?
WestRider
Well, even without the Lord of Skulls, cramming all that into one 2K List just ain't happening, but there should be a number of ways you can put together a subset of it and get decent results. AbusePuppy
The nastiest version of this I've been able to come up with is something like this: Lord on Juggernaut with Axe of Fury 10 Khornate CSM/Berzerkers in Rhino 10 Khornate CSM/Berzerkers in Rhino 10 Khornate CSM/Berzerkers in Rhino 20 Cultists 20 Cultists 1 Giant Chaos Spawn 1 Giant Chaos Spawn 1 Giant Chaos Spawn 5 Chaos Spawn 5 Chaos Spawn 5 Nurgle Chaos Spawn 1 Maulerfiend 1 Maulerfiend 1 Maulerfiend I believe that still leaves a few points for playing around in a 2K list, or with a bit of trimming you could make it an 1850 list. Model the Chaos Spawn/Giant Spawn as more mechanistic-y critters and you're pretty much 100% to theme. Blood Slaughterers could potentially replace one of the Maulerfiend slots, since as I recall they can be taken in multiples. A Heldrake could also sub for one of the Spawn units (likely the Nurgle one), although I wouldn't take any more than that- you need to be pressing a lot of fast threats into the enemy's face for it to fully work. WestRider
Where do the Giant Chaos Spawn come from? Are those a Forge World thing? I want some :D
AbusePuppy
Giant Chaos Spawn and Blood Slaughterers are both Forge World units, yes; their current rules are available in the new edition of Imperial Armor: Apocalypse. For the uninitiated, Giant Chaos Spawn are 80pts, have fairly standard Monstrous Creature stats (but only a 4+ save), and have pretty much the same special abilities as a normal Spawn, but get d6+2 attacks and have their own "mutation" table. Their three results do either S6 hits to every model in base contact, give -2 Init to all non-Fearless models, or give the Spawn FNP (2+) for the turn. They aren't nearly as fast as a regular Spawn, but as an 80pt MC with four wounds, you really can't ask for much more.
AgentP
I think you could use the Blood Slaughterer models as the giant spawn too. Same size roughly, but more mechanical looking.
AscentStudios
I've been running the following list at 1850 and having a good time with it. [165] Chaos Lord + Mark of Nurgle + Terminator Armor + Chainfist + Blight Grenades + Burning Brand of Skalathrax [125] Warpsmith + Mark of Nurgle [210] Decimator Daemon Engine + Storm Laser [120] Helbrute + Heavy Flamer [120] Helbrute + Heavy Flamer [227] 10 Marines + VotLW + Plasma Gun + Autocannon + Rhino with Dirge Caster, Havoc Launcher [227] 10 Marines + VotLW + Plasma Gun + Autocannon + Rhino with Dirge Caster, Havoc Launcher [170] Helldrake + Baleflamer [170] Helldrake + Baleflamer [158] 2 Obliterators + Mark of Nurgle + Vets of the Long War [158] 2 Obliterators + Mark of Nurgle + Vets of the Long War Basically, both HQs attach to an Oblit squad, the Lord + Oblits deep-strike while the Warpsmith shatters defenses on the best ruin in the enemy deployment zone or whereever the objective's been dropped. The Hellbrutes + Decimators work as a squad and come up the middle as the hammer, backed up by the Helldrakes and marines in Rhinos which go after transports and infantry. It ain't subtle but it's pretty fun!
Lord Hanaur
You said you liked the biomech look right? Here's a Daemonforge style list that I was floating to people for opinions: 3x Forge Fiends (2 Hades AutoCannons+ectoplasma Cannon)2 x Heldrakes ( baleflamers)3x 5 Chaos Marines (Vets)Prince (power armor, Tzeentch, Wings, Eye of Night, Hand of Darkness)Prince (power armor, Tzeentch, Wings, Mastery Level 1, Last memory of Yuranthos)3 x 1 Mutilator (nurgle mark, vets)Everything that CAN has Daemon rule on it which was kinda the theme. Daemon forge lists seemed like a fun concept. The models involved here are NICE.
