McNathanson Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 So I know this is a question as old as time, but specifically for this OFCC, can a Bretonnia BSB use an Enchanted Shield? Army Builder says yes, and GT lists I've seen on the web say yes, but I don't want to irk anyone if this is not a well-accepted configuration. Tell me, tell me!!Thanks,Nathan Quote

Horde_o_SeaGuard Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 As far as I remember it is ok, he just can't have a mundane shield, magic items (ie enchanted shield) are fine. If you are talking about fluff wise or meta wise, I don't see how it could be overpowered as other armies can use it. May not be fluffy. Quote
McNathanson Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 I have to dig out the Bret Book and check. It's a FAQ item, I believe. I think Horde-o-Seaguard described the FAQ ruling. Quote
MexicanNinja Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Yes, magic shields are ok. They just can't take the normal shield. Quote
MexicanNinja Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 I used to run a 5 paladin bret list. Quote
Munkie Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 I've never understood why there isn't a house rule about this yet. Sure every other book released since halfway through last edition has gotten shield and weapon options for BSB, but we can't just assume that they won't arbitrarily leave Bretonians in the lurch. Plus they would totally be OP if their BSB could take gear. Quote
Bearfoot_Adam Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 It's not only legal but very reccomended. Quote
HeroZero Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Hell wood elves loose their bow, and ability to be any kindred totally op if they get that. Quote
MexicanNinja Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 It's just outdated books. That is all. When the bret book was written almost all bsb's couldn't have a shield. They just haven't addressed that certain issue. It's really not that big of a deal. Quote
Bearfoot_Adam Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Besides we are still paying an extra 5 points for it. so that should help. Quote
MexicanNinja Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 Yeah, it's a small price to pay for a 1+ Quote

One-by-one they've changed that as they release new books. It seems silly not to just house-rule it because there is no doubt in anyone's mind that it will be changed with the last 2 remaining books with that handicap. Give them access to the usual gear and updated common magic items list. Problem solved. Quote
MexicanNinja Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 You're right, but then when you play outside of the house rule you need to re-adjust. It's easier to just roll with the rules in the book. It's really not that big of a deal. I played Bret's for like 3 years and just had to roll with it. Quote
Munkie Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Yeah it wasn't as big a deal with brets because they could still ride barded ponies. As a dwarf player, that was a real obstacle for a long time. Survive or pack a magical banner, but not both. Quote
