Pretre's Ordo Open Lists - 1850

As for Pask, why Punisher? Just the extra toughness and butt-ton of shots? I guess if you're rending, you might as well go for it. I was going for more range and ability to rend higher vehicles, but I guess the same is true of punisher as well. I'm just worried about getting outranged mostly.

Simply by the numbers, a Punisher benefits the most from Pask's abilities and is a tremendous threat to essentially any unit on the other side of the table; it's only real disadvantage is its short-ish range. If you compare the Punisher to the Exterminator in terms of killing AV10-13, the Punisher is vastly superior- and even against AV14 I believe the Punisher works out to be superior just based on the sheer number of dice you're throwing around. The Paskisher is terrifying to light infantry, bikes, vehicles, MCs, everything- the Exterminator, while hardly ignorable, is much less flexible. Range is absolutely an issue, but generally speaking you shouldn't lose more than one turn of shooting to range issues; worst case scenario, you give an order and move 12+d6" on the first turn to get you into range immediately.

I would swap the sponsons on the Eradicator and Exterminator; Eradicator is an anti-infantry platform and throwing the MMs on is mostly just going to be wasting them; contrawise, the Exterminator prefers to be shooting at vehicles or MCs, so the HBs don't really add much to its capacity there. With so few models on the table, I think you really need to make sure every unit is good at its job. other than that, though, it's looking pretty solid.

I think MM sponsons on everything is the best.  Been running two Eradicators with MM sponsons and HB on the front and they are GOLDEN.  Plenty of anti-infantry, but good anti-tank in a pinch as well.  Then again, I value units with versatility highly while many prefer specialists.  To each their own.

I just feel stupid wasting one or the other of my guns on a tank that isn't exactly cheap; you have enough survivability that it shouldn't be terribly easy to kill off your units, so losing all your specialists isn't a huge danger. Versatility has its place and all, but I'd rather have units that are more or less guaranteed to do their job.

So this list is totally the Preferred Enemy list.

Steel Host gets it for being within 12" of the Tank Commander.

Ulrik hands it out for being within 6" of him (which is a big bubble with a stormwolf).

It's too bad PE doesn't work on vehicle armor pen. But hits and wounds will have to do. :)

So I had a great game against Aventine on Saturday.

He played his Necron/Chaos BAO list so I was in for it. I made a pretty significant mistake early on (choice of first turn, actually) and he capitalized on it.

I still had a butt-ton of fun though and it taught me a lot about my list and how I may want to go forward.

Neat things, I learned:

- Leman Russes have a strength 10 Ram. Catacomb barge sweeps in front of the Eradicator, who has no guns that can hurt i. Not a problem! I can ram. :)

- Don't be afraid to give up first turn. Especially when nothing of your opponent's stuff on the board can hurt AV14.

- This is especially important if you need your flyers to kill his flyers.

- Reserve the hydra to avoid first blood sometimes.

- Pask does not get rending; his punisher cannon gets rending.

- Don't forget your damn orders.

- CCBs are awesome as hell.

- Stormwolf > Stormfang. Aventine and I were talking this over.

Stormwolf (235) - TL Lascannon, TL Helfrost Cannon, TL MM, 16 Slots

Stormfang (240) - Two Storm Strike, Helfrost Destructor, TL MM, 6 Slots

If you swap to SW, you lose Lance/Large Blast, but you should have that covered with the Steel Host. You gain TL-Lascannon, and TL on the Helfrost, not to mention Space in the vehicle.

- I'm gonna juggle points and see if I can swap to maybe 2 10 man BC squads instead of a 15 and a 5 man GH. Then I'd have two Stormwolves (obsec) with 2 BC Squads.

More to come when I make the new list.

Thanks again, Aventine! Gonna miss you. :(

Yeah, I've been juggling the StormWolf/StormFang comparison for a while, and I just can't see Lance and the Large Blast comparing to TL, TL Lascannon, larger Transport Capacity, and an Assault Ramp, all for cheaper. I think the Destructor also needed extra range or something to make it a real comparison.

Yeah. Plus it's hard to argue with Blood Claws nowadays. I'm thinking I can probably fit 2 11 man squads in Stormclaws for what I have now. Hmm...

So I juggled points and I can trade the stormfang and GH for 7 bc with flamer and a storm wolf. Split off 4 from the other and I have 11 and 11.

All turret swaps and sponsons are painted now. Dozer blades are magnetized and attached. The 11th guy in each bc squad is one of my GH wulfen (dual ccw and cool backpack) it's fitting and shouldn't be confusing.

A couple shoulder pad unit touch ups and I'm good to go.

Now to wait for the flyers to arrive.

Looking pretty nice there!

I'm eagerly awaiting my Stormwolf's arrival as well. According to the tracking, it's now in Troutdale, OR, scheduled to arrive here on Friday, so I can hopefully get it at least assembled, if not painted, for my game on Sunday. If it just got handed over to the USPS from there, I'd probably have it Wednesday, but Fedex always seems to take as long to get from OR to WA as it does to get from MO to OR :P

I'm not entirely sure between the Stormwolf and Stormfang.

The Stormfang has a really strong gun setup- I would run it as the Destructor, TLLascannon, and two TLMultimelta, which is a LOT of firepower that it can throw out. It's probably the strongest air-to-air fighter in the game at this point, even though its firing arcs are rather awkward for shooting ground targets. The minimal transport capacity is still enough to hold some ObSec guys and/or a few special weapons to spill out and ruin someone's day.

On the other hand, the Stormwolf comes in a bit cheaper and with a pretty comparable loadout when not firing at ground targets, and its capacity is enough to really hammer something with a big squad. I dunno, they both seem solid to me and the price difference is really minimal, so the question is more a matter of what role you want it in and if you have the slots available.

Part of it for me is that Lance literally does nothing against any Flyer in regular 40K at this point. One or two from Forge World, maybe? But nothing I've ever seen across the table from me. So as Anti-Air, the Wolf is exactly the same as the Fang, except cheaper and one more shot is TL. The Fang's advantage, really, is in ground-attack, using the Lance shot against Land Raiders and such, and the Large Blast to hammer clumped Infantry.

Yeah, I really like the lance/large blast, but think I can save the points.

Keep in mind a Stormfang with TLL and TLMM is 255

Stormwolf with TLL and TLMM  is 235

Also, the TL on the Destructor is pretty cool. I dunno. I'm definitely going to magnetize them both so I can swap between.
