  1. Personally, Endor. But if the complexity detracts from casual folks playing then I am at a loss for playing. It sounds like X-Wing is the gateway drug to Armada. For both systems should I safely assume that buying two starter packs is enough to play a standard game? Ummm, yes!
  2. Hey everyone, I am thinking of branching a bit out of my Fantasy (KoW and T9A) shell to incorporate another kind of miniatures system. One of my main goals is to grab a game that someone who is unfamiliar with miniatures war gaming, or is not necessarily a huge strategist, can pick up and have fun playing. I think there are enough star wars fans out there that this game is an easy buy in (meaning they would be interested in hearing more once I say star wars). My initial feeling was to get Armada, because the scale is more to my tastes and it seemed like a more forgiving game just from the concept of an Armada. To me that would be good for new comers. I then noticed that Armada is a 2 hour game?! Two hours may be a stretch for some people. From your perspective what would you think is a better game for people new to the concept? Does the ease of rules for Xwing with the smaller scale and shorter game length make it a superior game, or would Armada, with the larger stakes, and the very powerful capitol ships provide enough reward (killing squadrons) for new players to keep them interested? What is sort of the minimum size of points you prefer to play with either system? It seems like 1 Xwing vs 2 TIE fighters would get pretty boring pretty fast. But so might 1 SD vs 2 rebel capital ships and a bunch of fighter squads.
  3. Hey guys, Thanks for the games on Saturday, it was a good time! Ill try to make a couple more of these events for your overall campaign, next time with fewer rifles and more snappy toothed lizards.
  4. How many figures are in a 5lb bag? That sounds like quite the force.
  5. Salamanders and Dwarves (Dwarves are contingent on my roommate deciding to show up).
  6. Is this a situation where we need to bring 1 list and stick to it? I was sort of thinking about bringing a range of lists in case one really sucked, or was not fun to play against.
  7. I have not seen any weekend updates yet, did you not realise a new Hardcore History dropped last week? GET WITH IT!
  8. Just glue some twigs and crap to bases, DONE. I love the idea of an elf-less elf army. Elves are so stupid, but their army rules are so cool.
  9. Glad to hear the orcs are coming along! My dwarves are horribly slow to start, I basically have 1 clansmen and 1 crossbowmen. Ill have to max out my lord allotment to ease the painting :D. I never appreciated how easy lizardmen were to paint until I had to start painting bags, shoes, gloves, hair, helmets, pants, shirts, capes.
  10. What sort of buffet are we talking about? A cake buffet, or a salad bar?
  11. Well, he doesn't have one. So he will either build out a force of my lizard men or dwarves. He has played once or twice. He had an 8th edition army for 6 months or so, so he is relatively familiar with how it all works. I am in a pretty similar boat as I have only played KOW a few times long ago. Thankfully, there are not that many rules to learn.
  12. I think I may have a second player, however he works until like 12 or 1. How prompt at noon were you hoping to start? It does not affect me showing up, just him.
  13. Oh nice, this was the stuff that was being given away at the end of OFCC to Fantasy players right?
  14. Will this be held in the drinking section of GG?
  15. Put me down for a tentative yes. Is the salamanders army OK to bring, since it is not in the official rulebook and all?
  16. Your blocks of slaves make excellent impassable terrain from which to fight around.
  17. I read into the 4Ground MDF buildings a bit more. The problem with them is that they have no real texture to them (besides the thatched roof). That means that all of the trimming and wooden beams you see are flat and flush. The building is really pretty rectangular, with the exception of the roof (which appears to be textured, but to what quality I am unsure). If you are really particular about the authenticity, then this is not the way to go. For instance, the stone walls have the appearance of being stones, but are really just flat sides (textured tops). For some this is a mute point because they are using jenga blocks to proxy walls, and MDF would look 10^6 times better. If you are going to be transporting your terrain to the FLGS then I think MDF is a good option as it is lightweight and durable (as opposed to resin which can break). If you like the look of the GW trees, wayland games also has those for like $18-$19 / box.
  18. You know, looking into it, this waylandgames sale is pretty freakin' legit to buy all your scenery. Here is enough to outfit a table for less than $100, all pre-painted. Wayland is already cheaper than most other vendors. Add to that an additional 20% off and this stuff is basically free (relative to the typical price of fake model toys). Free shipping too!
  19. You could probably find something at a hobby lobby or Johannes, but I think you would have to really compromise and be somewhat unsatisfied with what you get. The world of lazercut MDF has come a LONG way in just a few years, and prices are really low for some pretty cool terrain. Some even comes pre painted/textured such as 4Ground. You can check out http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/3896-28mm-historical#/page-3 Although based in the UK, the shipping is reasonable, and there is a 20% sale store-wide right now. If nothing else this will at least provoke some ideas so to what you want your terrain to look like.
  20. I never knew this existed! Would this be at WoW?
  21. Youtube! There are really a lot of cool videos for making terrain such as hills and rivers with a broad assortment of material types to work with. As far as buildings and fences go I am still on the lookout, so I will let you know if I find anything. I had considered making my own fencing, but it sounds like a lot of unnecessary work. Trees, depending on your scenery climate, can vary. I have been told that after Christmas, you can get really cheap show covered conifer trees from all of the unwanted nativity sets. You could also look at warbases.co.uk. I was not impressed by the terrain, but if you like something there, andrewgeddon is making an order sometime soon. You would of course have to some how get it from him (Vancouver WA). Would be a good excuse to come down and get a game :D.
  22. So THAT'S why they keep changing stuff... I am going to throw down for some skirmisher trays for sure.
