@TheBeninator For clarity, the "Greater Daemons" aren't really banned in our present format, they just cost too much to field?

Not that I'm planning to take one, as I already have a plan, but in terms of what I should expect my opponent's to bring, doesn't seem to be a "big character" ban in the list format.

Looks like the Courtesan of Cibsresh is legal to be the general at 2k in this points format. 585pts with greater dominion. And that model is practically tailored to scenario 1 without any upgrades (it's really fast).

My impression was no, but you are right that the list format does not specifically address this.

    @Wentwizard?

How did the Undead tomb kings end up on the Order team? Flexible morality? 😋

At first glance Tomb Kings appears to be evil aligned. But then you realize they have 0 carbon footprint.

In addition, they are protecting hordes of precious metals from falling into the hands of looters. If they were not keeping looters at bay, then these precious metals would flood the world economy and devalue the currency, causing rampant inflation. Economies would collapse, people would fall into squalor and be scooped up into the Kingdoms of Equality-tane levies. A fate that is pretty much the same as death.

Meatgrinder games should be tense for the defender, that's what makes them fun!

It's also why the old Warhammer Siege rules suggested playing alternating games of Defender and Attacker.

I agree that it would be fun to switch sides and be the attacker as well. Depending on how quick the first game goes I highly encourage people to try it out!

With the smaller point limit, smaller field of battle, and pretty straight forward objective the turns go by pretty quick.

It may turn out that the objective is super slanted to one side or another. None of this is robustly play tested, so we all are test subjects to some extent. I am personally interested in sharing some stats and feedback about the scenarios as we go through the campaign with the T9A community. Once we get rolling ill start a thread there and share the link here.

So forces of Order have to hold out for 6 turns against infinite monsters, cav, characters, and whatever the opponent chooses to bring, in order to even scrape a minor?  0.o  Ooookay....

Question for clarification:  HbE Honours do, or do NOT count towards the 75pt 'magic item' limit?

We tested it out and Wentwizard held out for 8 turns against KoE. My knights were in his face T2. I cycled my questing knights + general 3 times before I broke him, and that was mainly because I was able to eek in a flank.

That said, it isn't going to be easy for the defenders!

Firewardens or whatever (the old Phoenix guard) are really difficult to remove. TBH, my peasants were the ones that did most the heavy lifting. The kingdoms of equality-tane have serious lance performance anxiety.

That is until they get cha in the rear ;D

  5. Progress!

No more clocking, but I did finish the rest of this unit in 1 evening!

    Final impressions:

Darker colors are too dark, after the strong tone they just all look way too dark.

The horses are mainly convex, so the shade does not stick to them well therefore its hard to get any real detail out of them. They are excellent candidates for actual painting, but I am reluctant to speed too much time on any of that.

The capes on the other hand are concave, so the strong tone just pools like crazy. I should have been a bit more careful in my application on the capes, or consider using a lighter tone next time.

I also realized as I was posting this that I need to do a matt varnish coat to try and take off some of the luster from the strong tone.

Well, my mom came through for me in epic fashion. She shipped me a giant 35 lbs. box of stuff, including my entire Samurai army, my box of bitz, and some AD&D2e books that were promptly stolen by my eldest.

Two cross-state moves, five years in a storage locker, and then being UPS’d across the continent haven’t been kind. A lot of snapped spears, bent banner poles, and just good old fashioned “the glue done give’d out” has left my army a bit worse for wear... and my cavalry seems to have vanished into the Warp.

Other than the missing cavalry, nothing that cannot be fixed with proper application of superglue and harsh language.

Does this mean the Samauri legions will be joining the fray?

So, hey, raindog, if you ever decide to paint some more dwarves, it's notable that the T9A dwarf core troops can take Spears. Bet you don't already have a dwarf spear unit. And they've got some really cool dwarf spear regiments online.

Not only that, but they also got a Monstrous infantry unit (Hold Guardians) and a flying chariot (Grudge buster). They are much more versatile than "stand in the corner and shoot".

    Just like infinity ;D

It’s actually my wife’s mug and she is American. I am more of a lord of the rings / hobbit fan. I really do think the picture I took at OFCC is a lot worse of you than a potter mug Benno!

What's your "wife's" potter mug doing in between your models and your paints?

It also contains what? Tea?! Perhaps an Earl Grey!? WITH MILK AND SUGAR LIKE A G.D. SAVAGE!?

    You cant fool me Samwise

If you’re only looking for a single mini to use as a hero, check out Gamezone Minitures, they have some absolutely gorgeous models... €12.00 is a bit much to try to build units (let alone armies) out of, but for a single hero it ain’t bad. The “Major Guardian Hero on Horseback” from their mummified undead line, with a weapon swap to a more European sword and a knightly headcrest on the helmet (or a full head swap) would make for something that should serve your purpose:

    #minierection

Not that my erection is small, but its about the miniatures...

    seriously...!

  10. Well, I forgot to time myself. And it’s been pretty stretched out work, but here’s some WIP that are getting close.

    KLr1IlL.jpg

The lances are enormous, these are going to present a challenge for army transport on a bicycle.

     Fs8vNX4.jpg

    Things left to do...

    finish assembly

    touchups

    paint bases brown

a nice strong tone bath for he whole lot

    finally doing he flocking/basing

I haven't read it all yet, but you know, I was there.

I figured it out, it was all the giant rats' fault. If they weren't in my way you wouldn't have been able to get so close without being threatened by my blocks. I may have ran the whole thing in UB one evening, at least from your vanguard on.

One day I'll figure out how to run this list. The world needs more Doomrants 🙂

There is a BSB in there somewhere too ya?

Im guessing it was in the SV block?

Interestingly, the only other game I ever had a big win on you was when we played UB and I took an all vanguard list.

Or at least a full block of KG. KG are crazy good

  12. Alright, time for a little battle report!

This battle was my dwarves vs. John's rats. I brought something I typically never do, an all vanguard list. Descriptions are under the pictures, and I did not take a great catalog of everything that happened, but.... Here we go!

    W9Zzc7r.jpg

This is after the first turn post deployment. Basically, I dropped everything for first turn, putting all my blocks right on the line. I then vangarded 12" forward. And then marched 9" forward with everything but the hold guardians. This picture is after all of that.

    kPzVeo4.jpg

    My battle-line.

King has 3x lightning runes, 2x shielding, and a breath weapon

Seeker hero has 2 fury and 1 quickening, so he is like agility 8 with 8 attacks or something silly.

    ZkOvZ1L.jpg

This is after John's first turn. He moved rats up to chaff, killed some KG with his catapult. Shot at the HG with his Jezzies, and I think failed a bunch of magic spells (magic was not with John this game).

Arrows show my turn 2 charges

    YAJZlhF.jpg

Obviously I make all those charges.

I run all my rifles and Xbows up as they have nothing to shoot but the catapult.

    jbVfaJw.jpg

Looks like I got 2 runes off on my HG (-1 to wound & distracting)

I obviously blast through the chaff and overrun everywhere. Greybeards make it into his big brick (which I was hoping they would fall short of).

HG do not pursue fleeing plague disciples but instead turn to face the ogres.

    9E2ZNxX.jpg

The empire (John) strikes back with a charge into the KG, he rallies the remaining disciples and decides to just shoot with his ogres. Again, shooting and magic were pretty ineffective. Rolls were just underwhelming, and the HG were pretty buffed up.

    82dnNyr.jpg

Still John's turn. He broke the Greybeards first, chased but they got away (quick little turds they are), but that had him BAAAARRRELY clip the KG, so he got to charge and fight again! Seekers mop up the chaff they were stuck in and rotate. Here is the layout, and all the nasties that John has in his list.

    pleOj9K.jpg

Still John's turn, we go to the KG combat. First order of business, is the plague priest, maybe kills a KG. Then the assassin who throws his lot in against the king. Does 1 wound after saves.

Finally the doomblade throws his dirt. 2 hits, 1 wound, does not save. MW d6, gets a 5

    Aaaaaand POOF - Dead king.

We discuss options for me at this point as that, really, freaking, sucks. KG are no longer stubborn. Could have just cut into rank and file and MAYBE drawn a tie, but instead I figure id just punch back at his characters, as they are really his heavy lifters. I kill his doomblade, plague priest, and put 2 wounds on the assassin. Not bad!

But, after all the dust settles, I still lost by 6. That's Kings guard, Dis 9, minus 6, to a 3.

    Ia8kk1s.jpg

    YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!!

epic... This was basically the roll I should have failed that would have made the game go a very different direction.

    PQTedL9.jpg

On my turn I pull a crap magic card...

    x1TqQN0.jpg

But I still get 2 runes off 😂. Yeah, the dice gods were not having it with rats today.

Crossbows finally contribute to the game and pile in on the very end!

    POMq4Ph.jpg

Crossbows fail to do a damned thing, but we pulverize enough rats to win combat by ALOT. Finish off the assassin, put a couple wounds on the wizard. On the discipline check his RAA fail and run off the board.

HG finish off the flails and overrun into Jezzies.

I don't have any more pictures, but next turn John moves ogres forward to shoot at KG, and puts everything he has into trying to wipe out the unit. I don't think he got the unit, but he did ensure a decimation. At that point we called the game. After killing the jezzies my HG were going to turn around, and it'd be my turn to charge his ogres in the flank. All he had left were more jezzies, the storm vermin who were way outclassed against seekers, and the catapult.

    Conclusions:

    1) I got lucky

    2) John got unlucky

    3) List parity was WAY in my favor

    4) I still hate the doomblade
