  1. Warhall is really nice. I have only ever played The Ninth age on it, but it works in conjunction with an app called New Recruit. New Recruit is a web application army builder that works very well on desktop and mobile platforms, has amazing tournament integration if you are into that stuff, and you can import a list you build in New Recruit straight into the battlefield in Warhall with 1 click. NR has all the integration of unit profiles, special rules hotlinks and all that good stuff, though it was built for T9A first, so TOW is a new adaptation.

Warhall is just amazing mechanically vs something like UB or TTS. It does require a subscription to use however :(.

  2. A group of us who have been playing Warmaster in the shadows are starting up a monthly meetup at Ordo. Every second Wednesday @ 5:30 (assuming the club is open of course).

Never played before, but have a curiosity? Come watch a game, or borrow an army from us and we will have a quick learning game.

Warmaster has very simple rules but has a very high skill cap for solid strategic thinking, positioning, and risk management. Come see what fighting an actual large scale battle looks like, and push your luck with attempting low probability audacious maneuvers which can flip a game on it's head. Enjoy a diverse atmosphere of opponents with the 26 different armies to choose from, yet at the same time not get bogged down in 100's of unnecessary special rules, combinations, and exploitations as you might find in another gaming system.

Don't feel like you have time to start another project? Well if you can paint 10 regular models, you can paint nearly half a full scale army in Warmaster models.

Don't want to buy more books? Neither do I! The rules are free and are a cleaned up version of the original Warmaster rules, so you don't have to argue with your opponent about rules interpretation (truly a novel concept).

Check out the free rules compendium here: https://www.wm-revolution.com/articles/download.html

See you in original old world.

@scottshoemaker I challenge your demonic honor to a battle!

  3. The Columbia Clash (The Ninth Age) tournament was a resounding success. As the TO, I had 0 player complains, one arbitration call (and it was a very close one, the players both accepted the arbitration without bitterness), and a handful of rules questions where both players simply just where not sure on a particular rules question. I couldn't have asked for a more self sufficient group! The secondary objective shenanigans I forced my players to deal with where well received and even bore some excitement.

Battle Points for the matches and rankings can be found on New Recruit here:

    https://www.newrecruit.eu/app/tournydetails/rankings?id=64552711ff378c28debfc8cd

To mention our top 3 prize winners there where three categories:

    1) Best Sportsmanship - Based on a sportsmanship vote, then tie broken by the player with the lowest battle point score (as being a good sport about losing is truly a testemate to superior sportsmanship).

    2) Best Team - This was a catch-all for optional two person teams where they collected points for painting, theme, sportsmanship, poetry, banners/shirts/warcries, participation in the army swap challenge, and a bunch of wacky tertiary objectives.

    3) Best General - This was based on battle points

Our best General award went to Henry G from the somewhere in California (somewhere between SF and Sacramento I think?). He was sporting the beautifully painted Asklanders (a supplement army book) where he fielded over 200 Norse barbarians who only seeked to make their way to Valhalla.

Out best Team award was a very close race, with the top 3 teams within 1 point of each other (out of a total of 50 possible points).

In third where the Midtable Menaces Margaritaville Manglers with their casual island shirts.

In second place was minmax from California with their strong paint scores and equally strong performance in the tertiary objectives

In first place was 2 hangry 2 furious, two brothers from the Portland area who competed in every aspect of the team challenge and truly rose to the occasion. With a war banner to present and of course a bit of bribery by bringing donuts, this team showed the full spirit of OFCC. @OreoGolem & brother Conner (unsure if he has a handle on Ordo), well done!

And finally, for our must coveted prize, the best sportsmanship award. I had players vote for their top 2 choices, in hopes that this would eliminate any tie votes. Well that theory was debunk because we had a 7 way tie! What an amazing showing, but in the end the prize went to @Yarbicus for weathering the storm of battle and keeping a smile on everyone's face.

Thank you all who helped put the event together, I had a great time.

I’ve stayed in that hotel. Nothing fancy, nothing terrible, pretty typical Holiday Inn experience.

The Cascade Station strip mall is about 5-ish minutes away by car but there’s no good public transport from hotel to shopping center. It’s got a Panda Express, an IHOP, Jersey Mike’s, and a couple other fast-casual places. There’s also an IKEA if you’re craving meatballs and flat-packed plywood furniture.

You’ll want to car-pool with friends or have some GrubPostHubDash delivery.

Plywood? You give IKEA too much credit.

Food delivery seems like the only option for people who are flying in and dont want to rent a car just to get lunch. I have only tried these services a couple of times, are they typically pretty fast? One hour goes by really fast in the best of circumstances.

  5. Hello everyone,

I am posting this event for the TO. This will be the second event that he has run, last year was fantastic. This event is new player friendly. Last year when I went I got to play my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ever games ever at the event and it was a great time. Most of my opponents also could count the number of games they had played on 1 hand.

If you don't have an army, nor the time to put one together but are interested, I highly recommend using the paper proxies: https://ordinarygaming.blogspot.com/p/warmaster-counters.html . We hold no judgement to proxy armies, and if you find that you like the game, there are a few of us who can help 3D print an army for you if that's what you are interested in.

The actual event posting is on Facebook through the Warmaster GW group (you have to answer some questions to be admitted to the group). Otherwise I have added all the tournament detail in the snippit below. If you have any questions or want to try the game out prior to going to a 3 game event, LMK and we can have a little learning game.

I used thier goblins in my MtW army. The halfling, human, and dwarf models look good.

Shoot, I should have gotten a better look at the goblins, dont think I have ever seen them before.

I thought their dwarves looked good until I got them, then I realized they were not that great. The dwarf rifles are alright (the rifles look much more modern then the big choky blunderbuss types of GW). The "Hammerers" equivalent look awesome, but admittedly I have never seen them in person.

Did you have an army in mind, or were you rather going to look for a model line that speaks to you and just play that army?

If you have any interest in Equitaine, Fireforge is what most of mine are, they are very similar to Perry miniatures or warlord games. You get quite a few weapon choices in the boxes, but the downside is that they re-use most of the main body molds (for both humans and horses). So the differences typically will be in the shield, head, and weapon, between one box and another. Here is a link to a very incomplete blog of how I put together all that stuff:

  7. I wanted to start a share for STL files on the interwebs. STL files for those who are unfamiliar, are 3D files which are used to 3D print models. There are several search engines for finding 3D models, but to be honest, you find the best stuff by just aimlessly scrolling through pages.

To start, this is a print that reminded me of @Pecksata's army of construct samurai in a desert theme. It is a bit out of his particular army aesthetic, but its a pretty unique model concept that checks the desert and samurai boxes pretty well.

I loved WHFB and have been meaning to give T9A an actual try. I was all gung-ho for getting my samurai army adapted over to T9A earlier this year. But then the "two weeks to flatten the curve" turned into seven months (and counting). Every time I try to read the T9A rulebook, my eyes glaze over... It's probably a lot better in play than it is on paper, but the T9A rule books don't really get my blood pumping.

No doubt the rule book is not inspiring. It’s good at not leaving ambiguity, but lacks flavor.

I’d be down to play a game with either of you. Or even be the rules ref while you play each other. Or do a 3 way FFA and encourage you both to gang up on me. Whatever your pleasure.

To me, location to play is the biggest consideration. I am not as keen playing at Ordo since it has almost no ventilation. I could host with some lead time (Foster-Powell neighborhood).

@IshI plan on doing a basic dwarf army with these guys someday.

@Sgt. Rock anything but GW is awesome to see on a table so print away! I love seeing different models on the table. My only concern is when people go too abstract and it’s hard to tell what the model is supposed to represent. Not a big problem with dwarves but demon legions can be confusing at times to play against. Definitely look forward to having you join our community. I personally love how 9th age has made a well balanced game that Is great for tournaments and campaigns.

Don’t like abstract? You are going to hate my next army project 😇
