  1. I also got my first game of 8th in last night against @JMGraham and his Ynnari with my Space Wolves. Some things I noticed were: Like @smashthedean close combat is really nice now and cc based armies have a lot more tools than before to get into combat. It felt really nice charging Ynnari and going first, whereas in 7th I would have charged and gone last every time. Piling in and Consolidating into other units to tie them up if your enemy clumps up is really powerful. Unfortunately... Ynnari can fall back and still shoot since most of their units have the Fly keyword which allows them to do that. In addition... Ynnari when Soulburst goes off can freaking Fall Back out of combat. Wowzers. This hurt me hard when on Turn 2 I had charged a bunch of Jim's stuff and wiped out a squad of Warp Spiders. That then allowed a unit of Fire Dragons to Fall Back out of Combat when they most likely would have been wiped out by my Ulrik and a pack of Grey Hunters who had charged them. Really powerful ability and something to watch out for when playing against Ynnari. Be careful with transports since if they are destroyed you can lose the guys inside. My Land Raider got popped Turn 1 and I had Ulrik and a squad of TH/SS Terminators inside and lost two Terminators. It was a fun game when it was all said and done and I learned a lot. Look forward to more 8th Ed games in the future.
  2. What?! A real unicorn. Can I pet it and ride please please please please???
  3. I'm really glad that they included this last stretch goal, since with all of the miniatures and boxes that we'll be getting we'll need a rather big box to put them in. Good thinking CMON. I'm also excited to fight and regrettably have to kill the zombie unicorn. Fun idea and a good looking model.
  4. Another game changer that I forgot to mention when I listed my Daemon comments before is that being a daemon doesn't give you any form of deep strike anymore (new or old version). The Daemonic special rule just gives you a 5++ now. This is a big deal, since more combat focused lesser daemons like Khorne and Slaanesh have to foot slog it all across the board to get to the enemy instead of being able to deep strike further up the board, right in your opponent's face. We'll see if this is an issue for CC focused lesser daemons, like Bloodletters and Daemonettes, being able to get into CC with some form of a unit left. A further game changer is that Nurgle lost Slow and Purposeful so Nurgle can use those mutated legs and run now. Praise the Dark Gods! I can finally run with my Nurgle Daemons, which was an issue following a deep strike in 7th Ed where my deep striking Plaguebearers were all clumped up for a nice blast to come in and ruin their day. And having essentially FNP is not too shabby as well.
  5. JIM!!! Or is it Cthulu still? I don't know which Jim I'm addressing here, but YES I'm still on for Tuesday 8th Ed. action. 2000 pts. will be fine. I'll just add some stuff to the 1850 list I've cooked up. Be there around 6, and we'll see if our first turn takes more than an hour.
  6. I just love that he can throw stuff, zombies and survivors both. A Dwarf character gets tossed and as he flies through the air you hear him yell, "Don't tell the elf!".
  7. Well, thanks to all of the strife that this thread has produced lately a new God of Chaos has been born! Revel in its glory and dark might! What shall we call it I wonder? Here are some things that I noticed about the new Chaos Daemons while pouring over the Chaos Index for a few hours last night: No more Warp Storm table. Takes away a bit of the fluff of playing Chaos, but on the other hand you won't have your supped up Daemon Prince killing himself when you roll a 2 or 3 anymore. No more Rewards, once again reducing the randomness of the faction during setup. Summoning is radically different. Any Chaos Character can do it (Hereticus Astartes or Daemon) and they can only summon daemons that are aligned with their respective God. For example, Kharn can't summon Plaguebearers, but he can summon Bloodletters or, even more impressive, a Bloodthirster. Roll 3D6 and compare that total to the power level of the unit you want to summon, adding in additional power if you want more daemons in the squad. Any doubles and they take a mortal wound, and any triples and they take D3 instead. Also, you have to set aside points in your army for these summoned units (these points are called Reinforcement Points). No more free units for Chaos =( Seekers are so much better now. They have two wounds a piece (up from 1) and they can advance and charge. I need to get me some more of these lovely ladies. I'm still on the fence about Soul Grinders. I've needed/wanted one for my Chaos Army for forever, but now with only 3 attacks and those attacks hitting on 4+ they don't seem great in combat even though they'll be swinging their Iron Claw at a whopping 16 Strength! Their shooting isn't that great since they come with Phlegm Bombardment which is Heavy D3, but if they move they hit on 5+. Time will tell if this unit is as good as it used to be or worse. It'll be fun making lists for this faction (Summoning based and not) and we'll see how they fare on the tabletop. Rot, Glorious Rot will soon befall the enemies of the Dark Ones.
  8. The BIG thing for me recently when I was hashing out my first SW list was that you now have to pay for the gear that your units come equipped with. This is a big change for me from 7th, since back then you just paid the points for the model and their wargear was "free" even though their points were probably based around the weapons they came equipped with. Now, for example, you look at a Dreadnought which stands at 70pts base and think that's a steal since the 7th Ed. Dreads came in at 95 pts. base. However, you now have to pay for the basic wargear (assault cannon, close combat weapon, and the storm bolter attatched to the CC arm) for a whopping increase to just about 133 pts. Holy crap does this mess with my list building and will take some getting used to. Makes Flyers incredibly expensive, especially if they come with a lot of weapons. Boosts a Stormwolf from a really cheap 165pts. to a whopping 279pts.
  9. Oh snap I forgot that happened, since we've demolished so many stretch goals since them. That's awesome and I hope they add in the special rule that they Holy Hand Grenade one shots the abominabunny.
  10. Sure no worries. With you that will make a full party of four, alongside D_Lo and Koyote. I can't wait.
  11. I want this stretch goal to happen. Please, oh gods of Kickstarter make this happen and have an optional buy be the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.
  12. Couple things after looking at the SW stuff in the Imp. Index Headstrong for Blood Claws is back (GRRRR). Hasn't been there since 6th and I hated it in 6th, since it makes your Blood Claws charge anything that they can in the Charge Sub phase. Also, now with you only needing to get within 1'' to make it into combat they have to charge if they are within 13'' of something. Therefore, you lose control of your unit, which is something I'm not a fan of, and they'll have to take a lot of overwatch and still not make charges consistently. Chainswords are free and don't cost 2 pts anymore. Woot. Blood Claws finally hit on 3+ in combat. About damn time. So tired of them hitting on 4s in 7th and then usually get hit back on 3s. Storm shields for non-Thunderwolf units are only 5pts. a piece. Holy crap. Small, but neat thing for Iron Priests: If you pay the 30pts. for a tempest hammer you don't get the -1 to hit in combat that a thunder hammer does, and gain the new helfrost rule. So you hit on 2s with a thunder hammer, which is pretty neat. Murderfang is a whopping 200pts. Wow.
  13. Hey Jim, I'm otherwise engaged trying to farm some souls this week, but it would be an honor and privilege to have you be my first opponent for 8th edition if you wanted to play next week. We can stumble, trip, and laugh our way through the rules together and it'll be lots of fun.
  14. So I know there was a certain issue last week with a certain board game that a certain delivery service didn't deliver on time. The good news is THE GAME IS HERE! So once again if anyone is interested in playing Dark Souls: The Board Game with me this Tuesday, I'd be thrilled. As with last week we could use 1-3 other people to make the trek through the dark, dank, tree infes... oh wait wrong world. I'll be there a little before 6 to get set up and see who's ready to not die too many times.
  15. I find your lack of faith disturbing
  16. Hey guys I'm sorry to have to tell you this but it looks like my game isn't going to get here today. Apparently it takes more than three days for something to get from Tacoma to Bellingham *sigh*. Hopefully we can do a raincheck for next week for those that were interested in playing today. Hopefully this gives you enough time to set something up with someone else. On that note, Shawn do you want to do some Saga tonight to alleviate my melancholy?
  17. Awesome, thanks guys. One more spot open for anyone that's interested in kicking hollow butts and taking their souls to use as currency.
  18. Just wanted to get this started because I have my copy of Dark Souls: The Board Game coming in the next couple of days and wondered if anyone was interested in playing it with me. I could use 3 more people as the Core Game is 1-4 players. Since this game is a little rules heavy I'd expect us to take around 2-3hrs which includes set-up, takedown, and some rules explaining before we launch in. Let me know if you're interested and we'll try and not die too many times.
  19. Probably going to start with my Sons of Fenris and then sell my soul to the Dark Gods of Chaos and eventually shift to my Chaos Daemons. It's going to be fun to see how different the Sons of Russ play with the change to 8th and I'm excited to make a sizable terminator force work finally and bring my dreads back since they can't be OTK'd as easily anymore. When I eventually get to my daemons, I'm sooo stoked to field a 15+ wound Great Unclean One and now that all of Nurgle gets Disgustingly Resilient I'm going to love that my servants of the happiest Grandfather are even more resilient. My nurglings are coming for all of your ankles, so beware.
  20. I don't know about the Corsairs, but as far as jump troops go they still have around 12'' of movement, although it may be closer to 10'' now. Also, they have the Fly special rule which provides them with some bonuses like being able to fall back from combat and still being able to shoot and charge in the same turn in which they fell back, unlike most other troops. I don't know if Hammer of Wrath is still in the game in 8th, but that could be another benefit for jump troops as well. Also, assault marines have bolt pistols so they can shoot the unit they are engaged with in combat in their next shooting phase which is kind of neat. Lastly, jump troops can still deep strike, but can come down anywhere on the board without scattering as long as they're outside of 9'' of an enemy unit. Much more reliable now, especially since they can charge in the same turn they deep strike.
  21. Hey everyone, If any of you have played Zombicide before, then you're going to want to check this new game out. Zombicide: Green Horde is set in the same fantasy world as Zombicide: Black Plague, but now the zombie plague has ravaged nearby orc tribes and turned them into hulking man-eaters. Here's the link to the kickstarter page: The kickstarter has already smashed it's funding goal. I think it was funded in something like 7 minutes or something crazy like that. Because of this they are on about their 15th stretch goal and so by backing this game, you get not only the base game as it now stands but some neat kickstarter exclusive stuff in addition to some nice bonus content. Take a look and decide if you want to pick up your sword and fight the Horde (reference check for all you Warcraft nerds out there).
  22. Man someone really messed up on your filter there Jim. I didn't think there was a Cthulu filter out there yet. I must just be behind the times. THE END TIMES!!! AHHHHHH!!!!
  23. Awesome!!! Sounds like fun and I'm looking forward to my sexy and not totally dead ladies. I'll be there around 6pm.
  24. AWH YEAH! Dark Curios is a really fun game, and you are very deserving of this Jim. Great work and get it published so I can buy a copy.
  25. That is if my dice want to roll well this week. They have some make up work to do after last week.
