  1. I'm offended...

Naw. T5 and T8 are great and T10 doesn't exist really. T9 is the sweetest spot though. Skabbbathrax, the Salmander dredd, Fellblades are all on that amazing T9 which basically makes you immortal, cause they dont just hand out T9, they hand out T9 plus stuff.

That being said T8/5++ on a highly mobile, less than 10 wounds character at 750 point is pretty darn good.

I like it! Same basic combo as I used for my Renegade Knights with the purple and gold, tho yours is kind of lacking in fleshy bits and chitin and ichor and such 😉

Well I've got a custom SM chapter (the Swamp Donk'ies) and I'm kinda painting everything Imperium purple and bright green. It all started with an idea to make voodoo marines with crocodiles, voodoo fetishes, that deep south eerie magic feel. Then the back story manifested itself further with a horrible run on DoW 3 for my buddy.

Now I paint everything purple & green.

Painting knights is so easy! Even if they are only like 85% done they are still tabletop ready.

  3. I dont think the majority of SoB player here at Ordo will do it but...

SoB with tons of storm bolters (maybe sprinkle in some flamers and meltas)in a Battlion seem like an excellent thing to slot into imperial "soup". Especially with the number of ork players running around. Some knights, some guard, some sisters seem like a pretty legit force.

  4. Wow... I cant let this thread die! It's the only thing that's keeps the willingness to paint going. Mostly cause I feel ashamed after seeing so many batreps with fully painted armies...

    Anywhoo, same eldar opponent, same eldar list against;

    Nurgle!

    Epididymis, DP, HoN

    6x plague drones

    2x 30 plaguebearers

    Every nurgling base in existence

    zRlXC2I.jpg

Now the nurglings did their sneaky shenanigans and basically tied up the entire eldar army. After which the came became pretty boring. The eldars could't kill enough things. The nurglings are... well, nurglings. So the majority of the game was sitting on objectives and the eldar player realizing he couldn't score enough points or really do anything. And while the forces of nurgle got points, they really couldn't do anything either.

    So...

Yea! I realized paint 750 of the same model will drive you insane, so I switched it to painting knights!

1 down, 5 to go... Man, that sound so much better than 33 down, 1000 to go..

What about badtoof? Or something, gold isn't valuable to orks so gold teeth would be "bad" also eludes too bad moons who are wealthier just some random thoughts.

He acquired the taste for gold because of his dealings with the freeboota 'umies. He sees the shiny bits they have and want to emulate them. Plus teeth dont have the same purchasing power with humans as gold does.

Well, I watched it and the using pile in to draw in more units is news to me!  Baller!

Excellent! That what that video was intended for! Now you have a new tool in your toolbox.

    And 42" with Pulse Drone.

Oh wow! I forgot to look at those FW riptide variants when looking at what the traits applied to. Phased Plasma-Flamers is indeed a heavy weapon. The other really cool Bork'an one is the 36" range SMS.

Those FW riptide variants' power levels are so odd. I mean the 109 has the same power level as the Stormsurge, but is a Fast attack slot. The 107 is 1 less and is a heavy slot. I'm convinced that the Stormsurge, as presently designed, should be an elites slot - it's an expensive support unit, but not a lord of war.

The stormsurge is such a weird model. No battlesuit keyword, yet the 139 has it. It doesn't have really have enough firepower to justify  its cost. You can take a riptide and drones, which would put out more damage and live longer. The 139, with the recent points drop does more damage than 3 stormsurges and has more survivability and can have strats used on it.

Yea, bork'an 109's are cool, I still think they are a trap at 400+ points though. Still play them though.

    Several things.

First, Thank you very much for coming to my aid.

Second, @peter.cosgrove is actually a great guy. You'd probably like him if you met him. But yes, we get into these stupid-long debates about what the rules really mean. The debates are unpleasant, but the person is a great guy, which is part of why they go on for so long.

Third, my point with the video is that the video is about found "exploits" in the rules and using them as normal parts of the game. When you use the rules outside of common use, you quite often enter into these stupid-long debates. The debates are unpleasant, which is why I described it as teaching players to play in an unpleasant way. Refering to the "rules lawyering"  as "advanced rules" is a recipe for trouble as well. Definitely fine to use in a tournament, where winning is all that matters, and that is the group that the video is made for, tournament players.

Forth, if I play and I'm grumpy, it won't be because of your paint. It annoys me, but not enough to affect my mood in a noticable way. If I am grumpy when we play, probably I was grumpy before I arrived. If you could give me a heads up that I'm being grumpy, it might help, as I'm not always aware that I am grumpy (often it just seems like everyone is very disagreeable today). Probably means I'm dehydrated, hungry, or sleepy, two of which I can easily fix if I notice the problem.

Peter is the only Portland based Ordo member I have actually played. He was playing some glittered up Blood Angels and I was playing like 5 demon princes and typhus with regenerating poxwalkers. So I was was the one pushing the rules to the limit in that game.

Pax, that video had almost no found "exploits". That's how combat works in 8th. Is it what gw intended? Maybe not. It's far to tactically deep for me to think they did it on purpose, but they have had a bazillion faqs come out and havnt touched anything involved with it. Maybe... mayyyybe an argument could be made that the heroic intervention is not like how they wanted it, but honestly using it to its fullest potential isn't really that game breaking.

And I know you wouldn't actually be grumpy about my toy soldiers being painted incorrectly. You have made comments about how you wouldn't do it though so I gotta tease you a bit. Because of @Lyraeus I'm thinking of having 3 different kultures in a detachment of orks now, for a total of 4 different kultures in a 2k list. I think that may give you a bit of eye-twitching hatred for my WAAC playstyle. 🙂

  8. Wow... This thread.

First off if your trying to pull this ...stuff off on Pax, your a... butthole. Never meet the guy, but I definitely ain't going to pull out the this rules lawyering, sketchy at best rules interpretation on him if I'm playing him. He's already going to be grumpy cause my Blood Angels and Raven Guard are all one color. 😉

Second, I trying to wrap my head around what your trying to say. Somehow if a model overlaps its base or has no base, that any extra bitz that stick out will somehow affect my ability move in combat? Lol wut? Naw, that's not how it works (seems like people have already said why).

And none of you, myself included, are good enough to be playing at level where the understanding the rules interaction of this corner case scenario, and any interpretation of it, matters. If it comes up in a casual game at ordo or a local tournament,  ehhh screw it. If it comes up at nova or lvo then a judge can handle it.

  9. Well I was going to read all the replies but... yea.

Anywhoo! That video was great and pretty basic close combat stuff that I figured everyone already knew?

I though he was going to go into "trapping" units or even single models of units so they cant flee combat or using certain models (like wave serpents) to effectively stun lock units. But I guess that more tactical than explaining the rules.

But yea, close combat is the best and most tactically deep phase of the game because of the sheer number of options you have to affect the outcome of the game.

I'd you dont wanna read a rulebook, don't be mad cause someone else did.

Evil Sunz has a neat trait, but they lack for gubbinz and strats.  The outflank strat is really good as is being able to recharge.  Frankly, I only failed a few charges where an extra inch would've mattered.

Some of these things are limited by models.  I only own 20 stormboyz/12 kommandos.

Koptas are an easy axe, but i found the bigger mobz harder to outflank and cost more CP to do it.

I only own 4 "real" kommandos.  But you can do alot work with bits and paint if you wanted.

Eh, I feel like it just won't be fun and that's what you want in a game is fun. It will definitely be a stronger list I am not debating that but it's a list that is heavily I to the finesse category.

He can try it but I sense I am not wrong. Though I will admit I am bucking the evil sunz for most things because I am a rebel and an idiot at times but I like my Deathskulls

Your right, about turn 3 your questioning your choices on why your playing orks. But I know it's the same way with guard, nids, cultists and demons.

Hahaha movement is not the issue, it's the where to place, when to place and how to place that I am going for.

The list you are saying to use is highly demanding and finesse based. It will require experience and expertise to use correctly and has no lootas to take his bacon from the fryer.

Personally, play a few test games with the original and see what happens. Adjust from there

I dont know how much finesse it takes to shove 150 models in someone's deployment and say "Deal with it".

Obviously lootas would be the answer to the Castellan. 12 wounds on average a turn through a 3++ with no retaliation because grotz. Roll hot and you might kill it turn one.

And isn't fluger an ork player for like 20 years? He knows how to move bodies around a table!

The traktors wound on 4's only have 1 attack and they have invuls, not enough damage goes through. The Castellon with a 3++ will laugh at that.

How will he get through the screens to kill the Castellon? Let alone get there for combat?

It's a fine idea until he loses Wave after wave of bodies and at least for me that would be immensely demoralizing and not fun for me.

And you think playing against a Castellan list is fun? If casual, I would expect the opponent to inform you he playing it. In a tournament, it's just a thing you gota deal with.

Ummm in his current list, the orks do about 4 wound through a 3++ on turn 1. Turn 2, the Castellan has killed the gunz, cause it has to. But now, most of the army is in charge range, which should deal with the screens. Also another 2 wounds via shooting. Turn 3 you should be able to deliver a fair amount of power claw attacks and keep the Castellan busy the rest of the game, probably on its second tier and low on cp (it takes 3cp a turn, minimum to make a Castellan function at peak efficiency). The ork player should be able to clean up on objectives.

TL:DR Ork have to many bodies and are to good against guard screens for the Castellan to do much work. You can kinda wound it then ignore it.

Unless you have a ton of experience wielding that many orks taking that many will just have them shot off the board, tied up early and killed.

Remember, fulger is reentering the game after what, 3 editions. The tricks needed for managing that many ork bodies and the understanding of the match ups and how to handle them will be far beyond fulger atm. I firmly believe he can easily master such a list but it is not a good list for a returning player I don't think. Play what you want for a while, learn the tricks, ask your opponent what you can do better and get the why in games.

    Experience, experience, experience

To bad there isn't a guy onto his forum who prints movment trays to make it easier to move 200 models.

Edit: While I obviously mean you, on second thought I cant expect you to be able to print those out. They do take a fair bit of time.
