HeroZero Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Does anyone take non blood angel assault squads? If so how do you equip them? I've been Considering either 1) 5 With double Flamer as a suicide flamer unit. 2) A full ten with double flamer, power weapon sergeant and attached character. Quote
MexicanNinja Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 I tried using a squad of 7 in my grey knights army with flamer for the same approach you have. They just didn't make up for their points in most games. Quote
HeroZero Posted January 9, 2014 Author Report Posted January 9, 2014 I have a feeling that probably is the most likely result. Too many points not enough punch, good thing I will test it anyway. Quote
MexicanNinja Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 It may fit your list more, you have the drop pod assault going for you. I was running mine forward with a Dreadknight. With the right support elements in place, they may see less fire priority. I just lost faith in them since the meta changed to "who shoots better and a longer range". Quote
Gorgosaurusrex Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 5 Assault Marines with 2 Flamers in a Drop Pod is a great and cheap way to get another Pod in your army list. I wouldn't take vanilla Assault Marines with Jump Packs unless it was a themed list. Blood Angels do Assault Marines way better. Quote
Guest Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 A few times my DA have fielded a 10-man with one of each special weapon (Flame+PP), then a vet sarge with both PP and fist. I use it in joint with the Firestorm Redoubt, as that unit can just fit on top, which gains them durability, while creating a large threat range. I usually like the results, but my DA have lots of more flashy FA slots and this unit is 240pts. -Pax Quote
fluger Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Honestly, with the drop in points on Vanguard Vets, I would always run them if I wanted jump pack troops. For only 3 pts more you get a bump in Attacks (crucial) and Ld (nice!). You lose out on special weapons, but gain broader access to things like meltabombs and power weapons. Quote
Munkie Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 I play Salamanders, so I like 5 in a pod with double flamers. 95 Pts including the pod is a steal! Quote
WestRider Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 I like the Flamer Pod Squad better for Dark Angels, because the Sergeant can pick up a Combi-Flamer as well in that Dex for an extra Template on the drop. Quote
HeroZero Posted January 10, 2014 Author Report Posted January 10, 2014 I guess if you got nothing else the flamer suicide drop isn't bad, I just like the idea of an iconic part of the codex being part of an army. Quote
WestRider Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 I've tried to make them work a few times, but they're just too expensive. GW persists in thinking that a BP/CCW is worth as much as a Bolter, even tho they've buffed the latter repeatedly over the last couple of editions while the former has gained little. I think they also overvalue the Jump Packs themselves. It feels like the packs are priced as tho everyone gets the Raven Guard buffs. Quote

I find assault Marines really shine over bikes in situations with ruins or fortifications. The bonus weapons can matter, though it really depends on the opponent. In general, bikes have more expensive models and are more shooting oriented. This can aid or hinder a list, depending on the rest of their list. -Pax Quote
WestRider Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 They also need to be able to take upgrades that actually help them, you know, Assault. Gimme an option to put cheap Power Weapons/Fists on basic squaddies, and then we'll talk. Quote

Bikes too, but we do have several options to make assault unit's work, should we actually decide to go that route. -Pax Quote
