VonVilkee
So, I'm trying to nail down options in my 2k list and reserve placement has generated a question. I have tempestus scions if I drop them in from high orbit do they count as moving? Is placement movement? I haven't seen something to this effect but I am trying to read the game designers notes... this will make the difference in choice of grenade launcher or hot shot volley gun.
SPaceORK
Since 99% if "deepstrikes" are at the end if movement, probably should make your decision based on that.
VonVilkee
They are at the end of movement I'm thinking going from high orbit/ teleportation pad to the table constitutes movement but haven't found anything definitive... previous editions started it counts as moving but this id's a new edition and many previous things have been ruled opposite. WestRider
Yes, it does count as movement. I can't remember where, but it's in one of the FAQs. Probably the main rulebook one.
peter.cosgrove
Look for the term "set up on the battlefield". That has a specific meaning in 8E.

Probably the main rulebook one. I still haven't found it... only found a question about on the field then redeployed counting as movement so far... gate of infinity etc. @peter.cosgrove where is it defined little hands like grabbing things having a way harder time finding a chunk of time to look thoroughly
VonVilkee
The gate thing referenced from reserves... but can't find the definition stuff...
peter.cosgrove
It's going to say on the deep strike rules something like "Set it up anywhere on the battlefield"
peter.cosgrove
Look in BRB under deployment/transport/matched play tactical reserves.
VonVilkee
I spend more time trying to figure out where I was in the rules than actually finding them... 1
peter.cosgrove
Ok so. Are you trying to get a movement after setting up on the battlefield? Because the only units that can do that have it specified on the datasheet. So unless the datasheet specifies you can move the unit after setting it up anywhere on the battlefield then you can't move after setting up on the battlefield. Where? I get it is at the end so no more "movement" but how does setting up impact moving in the preceding movement phase?
peter.cosgrove
oh. yes. They count as moving so you do get the -1. That's in a diff section. holdon

VonVilkee
awesome thanks! Rules in the margins have been getting me. The bit about counting as moving was too many words in never got enough time to read them thoroughly with the little one crawling all over me... VonVilkee
Now which will be better on a drop unit that is bs 3+ with orders available. A grenade launcher or a heavy 4, s4, ap-2, d1 gun...
peter.cosgrove
I don't know the stats for a grenade launcher
VonVilkee
2 fire modes both assault. Frag is d6 shots s3,ap0,d1 or krak 1 shot, s6,ap-1,d d3. Points are negligible there is a single one difference and my list is 3 shy with nothing else to spend them on

peter.cosgrove
I don't know. the S3 means -16%, S6 will get you +16%, the ap-1 is another +16%. D3 damage averages 2 damage. The heavy will get you -16%, AP-2 is +33%. 4 shots vs 1. 2 damage vs the ballistic. I would say if you think you are going up against T4 infantry take the heavy 4 weapon. It won't kill any of them, but you might get 1 kill. If you are going up against a light vehicle then take the grenade launcher. It won't do anything either but you might do 2 damage.
VonVilkee
I'm feeling consistent 4 shots over versatility I think...
