Murphy'sLawyer
So I have been playing around with numbers and this is the first test list I came up with. It comes in at Comp score of 10.9. Dread Lord on Dragon! SDC, Shield, Luckstone, Armor of Destiny and Sword of Might. 526 Supreme Sorceress, LVL4 Dispel Scroll and Talisman of Preservation. 290 Death Hag BSB on CoB, Chillblade and Witchbrew. 380 30 Black Guard with full command and Banner of Swiftness. 495 7 Darkriders with shield and spear. 129 7 Darkriders with shield and spear. 129 15 Darkshards with full command and shields. 205 15 Darkshards with full command and shields. 205 Repeater Bolt Thrower. 70 Repeater Bolt Thrower. 70 2499 points. It's not crazy and mostly infantry so I don't see this as being powerful and my block of BG and CoB is going to get lots of attention. The major comp points are in my Dread Lord and Sorceress, like 75 of my points. Thoughts?
Murphy'sLawyer
I could drop the LVL 4 to two LVL 2's (one lore of Dark and the other the lore of Shadow.) that would put my comp score at a 12.
MexicanNinja
I've ran the BG+Cauldron unit and it's...."meh" at best. I'd test it out in a few games to get a feel for it.
AgentP
Also, unless you know for absolute certain you have a teammate who is clocking in at 13+, you need to shoot for a 12.5 minimum, and even then you will hinder your team's eligibility for all the bonus points. To be eligible for all, each team member needs an 18 comp.
McNathanson
List looks fine to me, pretty soft actually because of the 30 BG... like MN said, those guys are just so very fragile, they're almost a liability. One thing you might do is wait and see what the comp hit for ET: Khaine orgs is. If you could get Eternity Host on them for Martial Prowess, BG in big units get a lot more interesting. AgentP, I don't think a team averaging 18 comp is very likely... especially Dark Elves, who are comped hard. Try building a DE army with high comp, they would have to be mostly Spearmen :P
AgentP
Yep, getting to 18 means taking very, very, sub-optimal things. There is a cost to making your team eligible for points.
Murphy'sLawyer
Yeah Black Guard are "Meh" but I am trying to get my Comp score right. Seriously, I had to drop and switch a lot of things to get this far. I even switched out a Master BSB for the Hag on CoB becuase it has a softer comp score and spent my remaining points. My Dark Riders don't even have RXB becuase they comp the hell out of the number of RXB you can take. Don't even ask about Doomfire Warlocks. I thought of giving a LVL 1 or 2 Sorceress a stone with Magic Resistance to protect the BG and CoB from magic bombs. But yeah, getting that comp score under control is hard for Dark Elves. But I am not complaining though, Dark Elves are good so they need a hard comp.
AgentP
You can shave some comp off this: Drop the black guard to 27: savings of 6 on comp Drop the riders to 6: savings of 2 comp per unit Drop darkshards to 13: savings of 2 comp per unit Drop sorceress to Lv 3: 10 savings on comp Just some random thoughts. Murphy'sLawyer
I will look it over when I get home. Then of course how do I spend those points?
Murphy'sLawyer
Oh yeah, I am going to need a team too. I am sure the Dimensional Cascade guys will want a local on their team this year though they were great guys to team with.
valourunbound
Don't spend them! Muahahahaha
Murphy'sLawyer
Don't spend them! Muahahahaha Are you going to try and showup this year John? My Elves want a piece of your Skaven sometime. Or at least my Dragon want to get hit by your Warp Cannons. Yikes!
thatdave
Those changes would make a solid 13 (14 with the magic adjustment). Plenty of shooting, and the cauldron frenzy will make the BG even better. My experiences differ from those above apparently in that BG have always been good for me. With the extra attack from the CoB they seem to be to be better witches as they would have the same number of attacks but at S4 (tho no poison). Wyssan's is gold here too. I like a Beast wizzie in my DE. The +1S/+1T is really good for them.

Right now I'm trying to see how in the world I can get a 20 comp with skaven.
Don't Panic
yea making a comp 20 list for DE has to be prettty bad. i tried making a comp 20 for dwarfs with only 2 copters, NO ARTILLERY and NO RARE.... still cant get it to 20 lol. its hard with even mid tier armies let alone top tier dark elves. thatdave
Not to derail the tread, but my DoC list is a 20. It can be done.
Murphy'sLawyer
Not to derail the tread, but my DoC list is a 20. It can be done. But I don't own that many Spearmen. Seriously if I want the Dragon my Comp is already a lot down. I also want to have an All-Comers list so I need a few tools but I will be happy with a 12.5 to 13. I have plenty of time to get my list done and this is my first shot at my list, but looking this over I know the Dark Elf lists I have seen before were not above a 9. Hate to see what Wood Elves are looking like.
thatdave
Nothing wrong with bringing a 12-13. Heck, nothing wrong with bringing an 8 if that's what you want to do and it meets the team requirements. Dark Elves are a good army and get their share of SwedeComp hate, for sure. Largely justifiable I think.
Sylvos
Do you know why I put in a lot of team achievements for softer lists? Ordo Fanaticus likes playing soft, however we are evolving and lists now vary as generalship improves. I could probably spend days evaluating and collecting empirical data that shows an evolution between super hard lists vs. experience of general but that would be folly because someone would be a jackass and argue the point just to be contrary. I digress. I am expecting to see many teams with a combined score of 58-62, however there will be those who are going to bring 72-80. You know what? Both of those are awesome and fine. When you get down to it, someone who is super experienced and competent is going to take an 18 rated list and wallop someone with a 12. However that will be a grand award of 10 battle points. The softer list achievements are there to help compensate for lack of wins and also to serve as bragging rights. The softer achievements won't compensate for a lot but they can help out the overall score at the end of the day. I mean think about it what's more impressive "Hey our team went 20-0 at OFCC with a team comp of 80" or "hey we won 20 games at OFCC with our comp score of 50". Ideally, I want to see people bring what they want and have five fun games that they can go home and talk about for 11 months before the next OFCC comes around. I want to see those commie bastards from WCP and CHOP! fall to the might of Team America: Warhammer Police. Why? Cause: Canada. (Yes I know Canada is a socialist country ,thank you) I want to see memorable and themed armies, I want to see epic fights just in case the End Times shatters the world and changes the game next year. I want to see a parade of Battle Standards from each club proudly displayed in an awkward parody of a presentation of colors. More importantly, I want to see 200+ nerds in a convention room rolling dice and having fun because that's what the event is all about. Anyway - nothing wrong with bringing an 8 just as long as the team you are with has lists that can reach 50. Also I hope you enjoy giving up 500 vps before any dice are rolled for most games :D
MexicanNinja
Let me just say that I brought the douchiest death star to the open with my dark elves and still received the first OFCC Open Best Sportsman award. It's how you play the game, not the list.
Murphy'sLawyer
Well I got one Favorite Opponent pin from an old game store owner last year and my goal is to earn another pin this year. Maybe one year I will get several in one, becuase that means me and all my opponents will be having a great time. (I did win a couple of prizes over the weekend which was great but that Pin was my favorite. And Sean is a great man to play against.)

My point was that it doesn't matter if your list is rated an 8 or a 20. Someone can bring a 20 rated list and still play like a bag of smashed assholes. Don't feel bad for having a dark elf list rated a 10.9 (no one complains when they die to S4 magic missiles). I would change the chillblade for an obsidian blade though. You want to test this list out on game night this Sunday?
Murphy'sLawyer
Your point is solid, I agree. Me and my son are going to be playing games of our own Sunday night but I am up for a game next Sunday.
