derek
Hey guys so I didn't follow closely on AoS at the LVO can anyone provide me some insight into how the tournament played out did people just openly abuse the game and really destroy the whole premise to it or was it fairly balanced and gave an entertaining weekend to everyone
Raindog
The numbers of players would be nice, too.
Steel Angel
75 players, there were some hard list but nothing over the top. Fact of the matter when the Europeans saw our lists even the winners they were surprised how soft they were. the players all were very nice and fun to play. though I bet more fun would have been had if beer wasn't $10 a bottle. lol
Threejacks
Results here,,along with the top lists- http://www.tga.community/forums/topic/7221-las-vegas-open-2017-results-lists/
AgentP
Very well done event. AoS lends itself well to matched play, and is a far better system for it than 40k currently. We've borrowed some of the ideas from LVO in creating the event packet for OFCC's AoS event, as well as some lessons learned from that event with regards to house rules (that we frankly expect to see in the 2nd General's Handbook).
derek
So sounds like the Americans aren't the ones trying to shatter the fun factor of age of sigmar and it's the brits this time around. And also sounds like gw had their own official scoring and it looks like it might possibly differ from the best coast pairings.
Threejacks
GW had a more sportsman centered result for the event while Best Coast is more of a competative angle,,Best Coast also tracks players ongoing ranking on the ITC circut. I wouldnt let the Grand Alliance forums be a good representation of the English AoS scene,,they just have a few very loud posters over there that came from Dakka. MexicanNinja
It was nice to play in a tournament where armies weren't built around exploiting a MRB. The players. For the most part, were great people.
derek
It sounds like it's an event to go to. But sadly I don't think I'll ever attend over a chance to go to warhammer world for weekenders
Raindog
It is an impressive number and a good sign for the game.

deadwing34
I did not attend but I talked to someone who did and he was generally pretty down about the event. He said he played against a lot of filthy lists, he said it was generally worse than 40k. In one game he got his entire army shot off the board at the top of turn 3. He did say that generally the players were pretty nice. I am hopeful that a lot of these issues will be fixed to some extent with GH2.
Steel Angel
I was there too. It wasn't even close to 40k.
Threejacks
Now that Matched play is getting a ton of exposure,,yes there are certainly some "unfun matchups" that arise and yes things are being toned down in the next edition. One good thing to look at as to how the LVO event went,,is the winners army list.He was SCE with what appeared to be a very balanced, even "meh" list by net standards. He was a very good player though and adjusted well to the opponents armies. What it really boiled down to was the OTT lists didnt get any(or enough) favorite opponent votes to place for prizes,,so yeah, bring cheese, get wins but dont make friends,as it should be:)
deadwing34
He may have just got very unlucky with his match ups, or had a very very weak list. What I found most interesting is, he said that his match up actually got worse later into the tournament. Now that really surprises me since they are using best coast app for match ups. Steel Angel
The biggest trouble some folks had was still thinking tactics like 40k and old WHF " How do I beat this army". When they should have been thinking " How do I win this Battle plan. "
derek
Well it sounds like it was fun. I'm glad that you needed favorite opponent to win it all. I mean I think that's just one thing that made AOS unique at lvo it wasn't just a culmitive wins over a season but you needed favorite opponent to win and that's just cool

This can happen in the middle of the pack though at any event with swiss format - you get a mix of folks who think they are contenders and bring the nasty list but either aren't as good as they thought, were unlucky or had the inevitable paper to their rock. Its usually the top and low end that tend to have their best games toward the end. Everyone else in the middle is a mix.
MexicanNinja
Every game was a challenge for me. When you only have 17 models in your army, every single one counts more than normal. It was fun though. I knew it was going to be tough, prior to getting on the plane.

I know I am not at the skill level to play in something like that.
Steel Angel
Trust me luck play a big part. I won one game cause Nagash failed 4 rerollable 2+ saves. Lost one cause i failed a 3in charge rerollable
Optimus Stein
LVO was an amazing event. The quality of the players and the armies was outstanding. Getting to chat with the GW guys from across the pond was also great. This was my first year, but I'll definitely go again next year. My Sylvaneth had 2 Major Wins and 4 Major Losses which is as well as I expected having only played a half dozen gams previously, and fielding half my army (Alarielle and 9 Kurnoth Hunters) for the first time. I played the guy with the Stormcast army who won the tournament. He was a nice guy and very focused player. I surrendered at the bottom of Turn 3, he'd already destroyed my heavy hitters and gained an insurmountable lead in VP's. I also played the guy who "won" the Wooden Spoon after losing all 6 rounds. His army seemed solid, Flesh Eater Courts w/ 2 heroes on Terrorgheists with tons (60?) of ghouls and a battalion. He let his Ghoul King Terrorgheist lead the charge and when I took it down, he surrendered immediately. I also had great games against an old school Empire (Win) and Brettonian (Loss) armies, and newer Ogre and Death armies. Vegas is a blast anytime. Adding 6 rounds of gaming only makes it better.
