Or is it more that they are less likely to have their own families and children left behind, so they are politically better choices...? And regarding pagan, you do understand that the word doesn't really refer to any specific religion. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/pagan So it's not really credible to souce "pagans" as doing anything because it doesn't really refer to any group, just points the finger at other groups. In a film them actually being a virgin has no basis, it's just an element of the plot. I'm curious why that plot element came to be, or mattered in the first place. As IK mentioned, much of the source for this is stories rooted in Christian imperialism, during times when there wasn't any distinction commonly made in Christian nations between various pagan religions. A faith was either Christian or it wasn't. Stories like these were used to reinforce that divide. It's us and them. And they're bad. They sacrifice virgins, y'know. So you know they're bad. That sort of thing. It was propaganda, just to show how Europeans were morally superior to everyone else.
