  1. So I went to the tournament on Saturday and had a pretty solid time. I did end up playing with the Charontid list I posted even after second guessing myself and building a Cybermask abusing one (which could've performed a whole lot better). Since it ended up being two lists and all the missions were murder/area control, I also brought this Sphinx list: Charontid LI 200 Pairing ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 9 SPHINX Spitfire, 2 Heavy Flamethrowers / EXP CCW. (2 | 106) SCINDRON Flash Pulse / Knife. (0 | 0) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) R-DRONE Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) R-DRONE Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) ASWANG Lieutenant Combi Rifle, Adhesive Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 26) MED-TECH OBSIDON MEDCHANOID Combi Rifle, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) SLAVE DRONE Electric Pulse. (0 | 3) 3 SWC | 200 Points Open in Infinity Army I played against three great opponents (Will, Chris, and Ian) even if I didn't particularly put up three good fights. Game one was against Will and his vanilla Nomads with a list looking something like this: Nomads ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 8 ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) INTRUDER HMG, Grenades / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 42) INTRUDER (X-Visor) MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CCW. (1.5 | 43) HELLCAT Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 24) HELLCAT Combi Rifle, Adhesive Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 23) REVEREND CUSTODIER Hacker (Hacking Device Plus) Lieutenant Combi Rifle + Pitcher / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 34) 4 SWC | 196 Points Open in Infinity Army We played Frontline and I was going second playing my Charontid list. Will's turn one saw my Q-Drone go down, but not before dropping the ADHL Hellcat who botched his jump. Come my turn, I attempted to have the Charontid clear the other Hellcat out to make room for me to speed up the table and lay down some sweet Sepsitors all over those Intruders/Alguaciles, but alas I lost all of my BS 17 duels with the Hellcat and died (no crits necessary). Thankfully my Speculo was willing to pick up the slack and she murdered literally every remaining Nomad with the exception of the sniper Intruder who hid prone on a rooftop from her. Results: 3 TP Game two I was playing against Chris and his Hassassins which looked to be a fun and challenging game. His list was something like this: Hassassin Bahram ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 9 1 1 MUTTAWI'AH Boarding Shotgun, E/Marat, Jammer, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) GHULAM Lieutenant Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) GHULAM Missile Launcher / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 17) GHULAM Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 16) GHULAM (Deployable Repeater) Rifle + Light Shotgun, E/Mauler / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 14) LEILA SHARIF Hacker (Killer Hacking Device) Shock Marksman Rifle, D-Charges / Breaker Pistol, Knife. (0 | 20) FIDAY Rifle + Light Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, AP CCW, Knife. (0 | 30) AL-DJABEL Rifle + Light Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Viral CCW, Knife. (0 | 35) FARZAN (Minelayer) Boarding Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) FARZAN (Forward Observer) Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 23) 2 SWC | 200 Points Open in Infinity Army Chris and I were playing Quadrant Control this round and I again brought my Charontid list and looked to have a better outing with him this time around...unfortunately he disagreed as did my entire army. While Chris definitely didn't roll well (besides a lucky crit on my Speculo when she revealed to shoot at the Fiday), I proceeded to roll a low of an 18 (keep in mind the lack of plural there) for anything but armor and was left chasing a tournament point or two here. A disappointing game, but that's how dice go sometimes. Results: 0 TP Game three was against Ian and it was time for some classic Annihilation. Since the Charontid had done nothing but die all day with literally zero accomplishments to his name, I decided to bring the Sphinx list out to play this time. Ian's list was something like this: Shock Army of Acontecimento ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 REGULAR Paramedic (MediKit) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 12) REGULAR Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) REGULAR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) REGULAR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) REGULAR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0 | 10) BAGH-MARI HMG / Pistol, Knife. (1.5 | 26) GUARDA DE ASSALTO Spitfire + Heavy Flamethrower, D-Charges + AUXBOT_2 / Pistol, Knife. (2 | 51) AUXBOT_2 Light Shotgun + Eclipse Light Grenade Launcher / Electric Pulse. (- | 6) PATHFINDER DRONBOT Combi Rifle, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 16) NAGA Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 32) AKAL COMMANDO Boarding Shotgun / Pistol, E/M CCW. (0 | 21) 4 SWC | 198 Points Open in Infinity Army I went second here and hid my Sphinx on the right flank near where his Regular link was setup. Unfortunately for Ian, his entire turn was spent on the GDA who only managed to down the Slave Drone before the turn ended. My first order had an Ikadron flamethrower the two of them to try and drop the bot so my Sphinx could finish the GDA (he had his back to where the Sphinx was), but ended up just killing both and only going Unconscious1 in return. The rest of my turn saw the Sphinx kill every member of the link team along with the Bagh-mari before taking his third wound and falling down himself (I was attempting the flamethrower the last two members+the Bagh-mari and just failed the two armor rolls from combis). I stood both models up on my turn, killed the Sikh who had come in along with the Naga who (unsuccessfully) tried to hack the HVT, and we called it there. Results: 3 TP I managed to get fourth place even with my disastrous second game which I guess is OK, but more importantly I had a pretty great time. Overall I think the format is an interesting one, but that 200 pts is a lot less balanced overall due to how damage snowballs. Still nice to play against different army types than the standard Infinity affair—especially Hassassin who I've never seen at a tournament before. I guess next up I need to start working on my OFCC models as obviously neither of these lists is going to cut it there.
  2. It's unfortunate that you can't run a straight swap for the Zhanying to be a hacker by giving the Kanren a KHD instead (you're one point off for that). I'd suggest giving the Zhanying hacker a try as you really, really want Supportware as an option if you're going to run the Rui Shi and, with Sixth Sense lvl2. the Zhanying makes a pretty excellent backfield hacker (also the Bioimmunity makes him immune to Shock from Trinity which is super nice). I'd probably swap the Kanren down to the MadTraps version as he's a better midfield piece anyway and take the Zhanying as a backfield hacker to support the Rui Shi and protect from flankers (who coincidentally tend to have garbage BTS for that Breaker Combi). Also keep in mind that the Zhanying hacker comes with D-Charges as well which gives you an additional mission objective that he can fulfill that the list normally can't. As for the pain train, I have a regular opponent who runs that quite a bit. In fact, we played a 200 pts game last night in which he brought a similar link. Overall I find the link pretty lackluster, but that's probably just because of the lists I run. The Panzerfaust pain train is good as an alpha strike option, but falls behind in shot saturation due to the reload mechanic. I'd be wary of any opponent targeting you from outside the 32" sweet spot everybody there has or just "piece trading" for your limited shots with skirmishers/warbands. I'm also not enthused about having the Zhanying Lt. have the main gun for the group, but I also had a hard time fitting in a lieutenant without him so I guess it'll have to do.
  3. Right, right, AP. I think that there's some play with Sogarats for solo play as you mentioned, but you seemed to be asking more about link details than anything else. As for the Xeodron Haris, I've run it a few times with lackluster results. It's not really a statement of the link itself as it's actually pretty good, but more that Onyx doesn't handle the expenditure well. I'm sure if it were in pretty much any other faction it'd find a place. Alas, Onyx (and CA as well) don't really have the line troopers to fuel it or the support pieces needed to protect it.
  4. I really hope that orks are not MV 6. Why reintroduce the stat if you're then going to ignore the granularity it brings?
  5. While Sogarats and Suryats look like they fill the same niche, they're actually kinda different in terms of combat roles. Unfortunately for the Sogarat, the Suryat tends to outclass it in most categories if only because silhouette isn't a costed stat in Infinity and S5 is a big detriment compared to S2. If you're thinking of purely all-comers usage, I'd urge you to just get the Suryats and be done with it. Suryats bring: Jungle Terrain (useful for Rescue) S2 instead of S5 BTS 6 (pretty important considering the lack of decent counter hacking in MAF) Ability to link with a Raktorak A wider breadth of equipment options (Tinbots and direct template weapons being chief among them) If you're looking to capitalize on Sogarats, I'd look towards a game plan using their strengths which are: ARM 6 Higher CC MULTI HMG Assault Pistols on the Feuerbachs They also have +2 PH which would be amazing if they had grenade access like quite a few Morats do, but they don't so I don't list it as a consideration for taking the unit. To consider taking Sogarats over Suryats, I'd be looking mainly to leverage their MULTI HMG option and the ARM 6 (9 in cover). The HMGs having DA with B2 in the Haris is pretty deadly and the Sogarats can be too difficult for most troops to dislodge with conventional weapons if you find a nice spot to break the Haris and put them in Suppressive Fire. Just be careful if you're doing this as both their silhouette and low BTS makes them especially vulnerable to weapons well suited to dropping HI. A special note on the weakness of Sogarats is that they must bring Kornak to form a link at all and the two sort of waste the other's potential once they're linked. What I mean by this is that Kornak's main gift is that he's BS14 which is fantastic, but you don't want to bring 100+pts of Sogarat beefcake around just to give him +1B as it's a waste. This isn't so much of a problem with other link options as 100-ish points usually gets you a full 5 man suite of tools to choose from which make the 2xSogarats look a little...anemic. So, during the active turn, you're either wasting the Sogarats or you're wasting Kornak which is a shame. Basically, I'm not a big fan of Sogarats because of the math, but they do have a purpose if you're looking for a couple of mini TAGs to bully people with. If you're not, just bring Suryats.
  6. I too eagerly await the return of the Slubba Boy (with baited breathe). At least now there might be more of a point to Sluggas in a horde with the pistol rule.
  7. Just a li'l update today of some paint I slapped around tonight. I'm going to a 200 pts LI tournament this Saturday and decided to run this list (scenarios are Fronline, Annihilation, and Quadrant Control so no specialists required): Combined Army ────────────────────────────────────────────────── 10 CHARONTID Lieutenant Plasma Rifle, Sepsitor Plus / Heavy Pistol, Knife. (0 | 77) R-DRONE Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) R-DRONE Flash Pulse, Sniffer / Electric Pulse. (0 | 8) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) IKADRON (Baggage, Repeater) 2 Light Flamethrowers, Flash Pulse / Pistol, Electric Pulse. (0 | 9) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) ÍMETRON . (0 | 4) Q-DRONE Plasma Rifle / Electric Pulse. (1 | 25) SPECULO KILLER Boarding Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Monofilament CCW, Knife. (1 | 34) MORAT Hacker (EI Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 22) 2.5 SWC | 200 Points Open in Infinity Army I didn't have my Charontid, Speculo, or Vanguard Hacker ready to go so I thought I'd throw some free time at them this week to get them to a tabletop quality at least. While I pretty much have the Charontid (still needs some basing) and the Speculo ready to go, I did hit a slight hitch in that they're both pretty fugly to me so it was hard to care about the final outcome. I guess I won't feel too bad, but still I wish that CA would get a little love at least model wise. Since an image is worth a thousand words, here ya go!
  8. That is a very large structure.
  9. On the same note, I think that a major alteration like moving from TLoS to volumetrics as seen in WM would warrant some mention. While we don't know for sure, the smart money is on the return of TLoS and all that comes with it.
  10. That is until you roll E/M CCW for all your rolls. Angus needs to practice his stabbin', Red!
  11. That list look straight up rude. I like it!
  12. Interesting that you'd consider gathering information just makes you seem smarter. In your example, who are you debating in the cage if the philosophy professors are observing it? Would you stay on topic about 40k? That would make sense if you were debating yourself there and it would definitely make sense that you'd love it.
  13. I will endeavor to goggle the point in the future.
  14. WestRider is correct. I definitely understood what you were trying to say, but the thread is riddled with this kind of joke. It definitely didn't require this much analysis. Also, since you don't search for "things this simple," you mean breath and not breathe. To breathe is the action while breath is the noun.
  15. How does one bait their breathing? Does it have to do with 120 wounds?
  16. Yeah, I think Munkie was referring to when they said, "that sword, for example, is looking pretty deadly against most things, with the AP-3 helping it against every type of foe" which is pretty blatantly not true. Not saying that the sword isn't improved assuming that most Monstrous Creatures fall into the T6/7 range and are good enough to see the table a fair amount of the time, but that's not the same as "AP-3 helping...against every type of foe."
  17. Having to write the fluffy humor piece instead of an obvious advert (for once) in GW land? If I were there, I'd jump at that punishment every time.
  18. The heads are the same size. Basically they're true scale marines meaning they don't use as exaggerated body proportions that current marines use. They're very obviously larger if you compare the pictures of them next to tanks if you need a visual aid.
  19. They game the [big bad swear word] outta those bonuses.
  20. Gonna have to agree with Fluger here. Mark three, although far from my favorite game, effectively doubled their point system to add more granularity to the game and not to add more models. I also keep reading your assertion about what the clocks are for in Warmachine and you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what they're for. Clocks have been standard in WM since 2012 for all events (long before the current edition launched) and are there to ensure that both players get an equal allotment of the round time. Most games that use the I-go-you-go system would benefit from such an inclusion on a competitive level to remove slow play as a factor. I'm sure most competitive 40k players understand the absurdity that is losing a game because someone brought an all Warp Spider list/horde list and couldn't operate it fast enough to give both players an equal share of the round.
  21. That's definitely true especially with how popular army boards are now. It's much easier lugging around a light and stable army than it is one with a bunch of fiddly, easily-chipped parts. It's also important to remember that, while many armies may be viable, a few will likely be less mentally straining which ups their chances to win considerably in sequential formats.
  22. True, but a bit irrelevant as most people not playing competitively just bring whatever anyway so no change there!
  23. TBF, having a high amount of viable lists doesn't often translate to a high amount of lists seen.
  24. Things tend to be balanced when everybody is on the same page. Ostensibly, points are there so you can play new people in new environments without arguing over the supremely subjective point that is what's broken. I also played a fair amount of AoS when it came out which makes me quite thankful that 8th at least sounds like it'll launch as a full game.
