Base game is actually available already, though you can get the base game with the expansion through this kickstarter. Lots of positive reviews, if you like a compact but in depth space exploration game this looks solid!
My understanding from watching "Talking Preacher" is that season 1 is essentially a prequel to the graphic novels, to basically introduce the characters and the world. Should be seeing more direct crossover from the comic in season 2 I'd imagine.
Haven't played ED myself. If you're mostly interested in space combat I'm gonna go out on a limb and say NMS isn't for you. It plays largely as a single player experience (so far the only thing other players do is determine who gets credit for discovering things) so when combat happens it's always against AI. Early on in space battles you generally just get shot down pretty easy. Once you can upgrade your shields/guns you stand a chance but you're still just flying in circles until you get an enemy in your sights then fire away until you pass each other and have to swing around again.
I've been enjoying it too, probably about 16h in right now. Upgraded my suit inventory to almost 30, just bought a 30-slot ship, and sporting a 17-slot multi-tool. Currently stockpiling materials required for some tech upgrades.
Yeah I'm pretty lax on proxies, as long as you're adhering to wysiwyg, I don't care where the model came from. I'd much rather people play with models they love and inspire them to play Malifaux!
The book is slated for September release, so you won't have to wait long even if people aren't picking it up during Gen Con sale (it's not uncommon for gen con items to arrive late August/early September due to high volume of orders they have to ship out).
