  1. oh and in the future I'd do a CAD and not the Apoc formations. Having stuff bunched up like that, or conversely Corey having to field his entire battle company within 36 inches, really doesn't do it for me. More tactical flexibility in being able to have stuff spread out. Just my $ 0.02.
  2. Hello there, I'll write up a more-detailed summary tomorrow, but here's at least my personal perspective (so please don't read it as anything other than my ponderings): 1. Going into the game, I gave Brad choices of what Dark Angels successor stuff I could bring: lots of models; few models but very tough; a mixture. Brad suggested my Deathwing option, as Eli had a ridiculously large amount of AP3 stuff. 2. I ended up only fielding 60 models... (50) Deathwing, (1) Deathwing Chapter Master, (4) Land Raiders, (3) Predators, (1) Storm Eagle and (1) Stormsword because Eli suggested bringing it to have fun with. I was a little worried with regards to the layout because all my termies would have to foot slog it (no transports allowed) and I was concerned that after the deep strike everything would just drive away from them and they'd be just absolutely blown to bits by ranged fire as they trudged to try and catch stuff to assault it. 3. Set-up occurred. Brad and I decided to "bait" the left flank by tossing out basically all my armor there, thinking it would be a shot magnet. Brad said we would just need to make it through the first round of shooting by the enemy and our counter-attack would be pretty solid in its own right. 4. Like almost all my armor was vaped the first turn, very frustrating not being able to shoot 3 Land Raiders and 3 Predators basically the whole game... but oh well, technically they did their job but they could've done their job for a couple turns. To put it in perspective, I didn't even move my land raiders before 3 were done with. Just sucked. 5. My job was to assault, so I did. Worked pretty well and surprisingly the enemy charged me, so I was happy with that. I knew my role the entire battle and didn't try and play otherwise... Brad just told me from our first emails to send my guys in to soak up firepower, hopefully survive and just wreck face in assault. 6. Brad's job was to shoot and he did, so I did my best to keep stuff from harassing Brad. So again, just tried to play my role in the strategy. 7. The first turn we had a ton of the objectives so were up 12-0 at the first break. Brad bought an orbital strike (it sucks, don't buy it) so after the first break 11-0. Brad told me right then and there that the game was effectively over from his point of view because the way the objectives and the enemy were spread out... he just didn't think they could get to enough of the objectives to really impact us in future turns. 8. At the end of the second break, we had jumped to a 26 to 6 lead. Folks bought some stuff and it went to 23 to 5. Brad told me that based on his quick calculations, it would be very hard for the Chaos guys to come back and win... they'd have to have almost all the objectives at that point, and were very, very far away from two of them. 9. Played two more turns and the Chaos guys wanted to start turn 5 to try and get back into it, but a certain Rhino got immobilized so they called it. They figured that was their chance. Scored ended 42 to 13, with us holding 3 objectives, them holding 2 and 1 being contested/no call. So I guess if they got the 2 objectives that were somewhat mid-board, final score could've been 36 to 25 but I don't know if the center one would've gone easily... some termies still around it. But that's why folks roll the dice, ya never know! Hopefully everyone had fun, I did... but felt bad because I've still got a pretty steep learning curve. Getting better, though because I remember most of the basic stuff... and I got a lot of exposure to some weird stuff like multi-assaults, base size and movement, tank shock, etc. that I haven't seen in my previous 5 games. So I appreciated everyone's patience. And hey, at least folks got fed and got to stand on cushioned flooring instead of concrete.
  3. Hello there, http://millests.blogspot.co.at/ Is one of the many pages that listed it this morning. Sorry, I don't know how to post pictures and stuff. This morning I was looking at all the Warhammer World releases... even airbrush paints from FW, etc. Stay safe, don
  4. ... Apoc rules, page 62 When deploying a Battle Formation, nominate a point on the table. All units in the formation must be deployed within 36" of this point. So your Battle Company needs to cluster somewhere, sadly. Dunno if that means the same for Eli's tanks. We'll have to re-deploy, as I bet this changes your strategy a bit...???
  5. ... and not to sound like a party pooper, but after actually looking at the rules methinks the Chaos forces deployed illegally. /snicker you sillies
  6. The new 40k campaign supplement "Blood Oath" was shown at the Warhammer World event. Khorne Daemonkin versus Ultramarines, so folks are speculating that since the former have received their new codex, the latter (i.e. Codex: Adeptus Astartes or whatever they're gonna call it) will release shortly. Stay safe, don
  7. $ 1800 listing price! (well 1150 pounds with weapons load out)
  8. Deployment completed, indeed. The board very much resembles what our little narrative has been... The Tau barely had time to evacuate, the Archangels barely had time to dig in their armor to assist. The forces of Chaos loom on the horizon and their guns are being brought to bear... With enemy drop pods slamming down around them, the Tau are hoping to survive the initial onslaught as their rapid response forces vector in to assist. Meanwhile, Archangels strategic command has verified a singular presence on the battlefield... a singular presence that must be dealt with swiftly. "The One Hope for the Doomed is Not to Hope for Safety..."
  9. Hello there, How about this, then: * I'll buy some burger patties and hot dogs and (cough cough) veggie burgers and just grill for y'all. Buns, too. This will be for Saturday and I'll just cook all day so we can eat all day. I like eating all day. Mmmmmmm We have onions, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and all kinds of condiments. This way folks can just grab food whenever... I'll set the BBQ up right outside the gaming area. As my beloved Astartes are falling on the field of battle at least they'll be surrounded by the odors of goodness. Except the veggie burgers. That's for "team evil" to smell as they are thrown back into the fiery pits of damnation. You know, where the veggie burgers come from. So no one bring any food, I'll provide it as a "thank you" for helping me game. Eli, in all seriousness please let me know if you prefer a certain veggie burger and I'll get them. I've never purchased 'em before so guidance is appreciated. If Costco carries them, even better because that's where I'll go. Thank you in advance, sir. Stay safe, don
  10. Hello there, Loren, it'd be great if you could come out! And you can just role-play as a Farseer watching my goofy-@$$ mon keigh struggle with basic rules and ponder the skeins of fate at my tactical decisions! With regards to food: * I have a barbeque if you wanna use it * I have a house with a kitchen with an oven, microwave and all that kinda jazz * I have plates, utensils, cups and all that * There's a Dominos Pizza not too far off, a Subway, a Market (think Haggen-type) that has a deli in it... so if you're into buying food, then have at it. If you are going the economical route and are just going to bring stuff, feel free to and you can use whatever condiments, dishes, appliances, whatever Or if the group can come to some kind of consensus on something to eat I'd be happy to buy something and cook it, no problems. But please make it at least one general foodstuff (i.e. pizza, burgers, ribs, whatever). Stay safe, don
  11. Policy on crashers is come and watch if you wanna, no problems. Set up included! And if you wanna join in the game just let us know and I'm sure that's fine, too! huggies01... happy to report the crawl space is dump-free. The neighbors are probably unhappy with your "dropping the kids off at the pool," however. /chuckle
  12. Hello there, My address is 4358 Arnie Road, Blaine. I have no problems posting it, as if anyone that reads these forums for some reason wants to make a huge mistake and bring problems to the homestead... well you know how that'll end up. tee hee Easiest directions from the 'Ham: * northbound Interstate 5 * take exit 270 (Birch Bay Lynden Road) * go LEFT / WEST on Birch Bay Lynden Road * keep going for a few miles until you see an intersection approaching sign denoting Kickerville Road * go LEFT / SOUTH on Kickerville Road * continue one mile, Arnie Road will be the first (and only) road you will come upon, it will be on your RIGHT / WEST side * turn RIGHT / WEST on Arnie Road * go 0.7 miles, you'll see a red bus hut on your RIGHT / NORTH side... this is our driveway. Red bus hut on right side of driveway, two black mailboxes on left side * turn RIGHT / NORTH onto a long gravel driveway * at the fork in the driveway, go RIGHT / EAST You'll see a bluish gray house and a big ol' pole barn. I'm instructing use of force at a local law enforcement agency but will have the tables set up in the pole barn. Please feel free to enter via door (south side of pole barn) if it's raining or if it's sunny just roll up bay doors two, three and four. You can't miss the setup area, I'll put it over the wrestling mats so our feet and knees don't get sore from all the Apoc-y goodness. 360-927-3206 if there's any problems. I'll let the boys know to expect company so they stow the long guns on your approach. tee hee (kinda) Stay safe, don
  13. that last line might've well been written in mandarin, that's how much i understood
  14. Happy birthday, sir! May the day bring you joy and prosperity and have you surrounded by those you love. Stay safe, don
  15. Brad, please check your PM folder here. Sent you a message inquiring about the game. Hope everyone's doing well. I appreciate you all including me in the game and showing a willingness to be patient with my getting up to speed. Should be a fun game and really think it'll make a cool story! Stay safe, don
  16. Hello there, So with their impending Codex releasing soon and looking at all the sneak peaks, I have a question: * each Knight is now a Lord of War, so that means what exactly? As I understand it, a LoW came out with the "escalation" expansion/rule set/whatever. So do you add a LoW to a "normal" game of 40k? Or is it just used in escalation? Or Apoc? And how does this affect tournament choices? Just wondering. Thanks and stay safe, don
  17. ... and with regards to set-up, if we want THEME then: * Tau set-ups defensively and gets some terrain to dig into? * y'all come from the opposite board area/etc. * I can enter play completely as reserves or from the furthest flanking board edge or something That's if you want storyline. I haven't opened the book (duh)
  18. FYI I got called in to train at another LE agency that day, but only until 6pm. So I won't be there from 3:30 pm on but you're welcome to come out and I'll tell the boy not to open fire on the trespassers. Or come after 6pm and I'll be there.
  19. JMGraham, Yeah only 6 more classes. I work 5 on / 4 off / 5 on / 4 off / 5 on / 5 off rotation so it won't be every Tuesday but I think at least two a month! Stay safe, don
  20. Brad, Rough verification available Tau forces: * 1 commander in crisis suit * 15 crisis suits * 6 stealth suits * 48 fire warriors * 1 fire warrior leader guy * 4 devilfish * 4 remora drones * 3 broadsides * 2 riptides * 2 hammerheads
  21. *** someone please confirm that I need to make a 5k list, or tell me what points I need to do my list at *** Fluff? Well... Brad's Tau are just chillin', eatin' some food and talkin' 'bout Cuba when (ALL OF A SUDDEN!) they uncover some kind of (insert evil adjectives here)(insert evil thingiemabobber that you and Corey would want). Since they're sooooooo technologically advanced, the Tau unearth it (or unslime it or whatever fits based on the aforementioned descriptors) and start examining it. *** PING GOES THE TRIGGERED LOCATOR BEACON *** Corey and you have forces that are pillaging/rampaging/having tea parties where they damn well please in the sector and your comms gear registers the PING. Hey, someone found our (insert evil adjectives here)(insert evilthingiemabobber that you and Corey would want)! Let's go get it! Hey, what are those things? I don't care, we're evil and thus must destroy them. Cue the noble Tau warrior caste, preparing to defend whilst the other castes prepare to flee. Man, dats a lotta spikey bits comin' in. *** BUT WAIT! *** There are some non-spikey bits comin' in, too. "Friendly" marines to the rescue! We're not so much interested in helping the Tau as we are destroying the evil guys and/or the aforementioned (evil adjective)(evil thingimabobber). But hey, since the Tau seem to be shooting the evil forces, the enemy of my enemy is my friend! Unless we're the last two standing at the end, then we'll probably duke it out... but hey, no one expects us to be standing at the end so OMG IT'S EVEN MORE NOBLE!
  22. Hello there, Returning player from 3rd edition, where I played in competitive tournaments and such. Now I'm easily defined as "casual," having played 5 games since 6th edition dropped. I have 8 armies and they're all probably 3000 points plus, so my situation is very much like yours. I like the strategic approach that others have talked about: I just build an army, get figures that I think look neat and make a theme for my forces. I reckon if I choose to play, I'll need a rulebook and whatever the newest codex is and I'll go from there. It is disappointing that the codices are being replaced so quickly, but... and more wise posters can verify this... I'm pretty sure that most folks appreciate that more than the "this army hasn't had a new codex since 5th edition" or something like that. It's YOUR hobby, make it what you will. If you wanna build an army over 3 years and eventually play it once you get the newest codex, rock it. Plus, if it's your hobby approach it from a "how it this pleasing to me / giving me fun?" and you can't go wrong. Stay safe, don
