  1. I have never built or played as custodes, but what do I wish I knew before starting/building in general?

    1) Magnets can be very nice and pretty easy for larger kits like vehicles/dreads and some characters.  Less so for general infantry although custodes are elite enough that maybe the effort is worthwhile.  But dont be afraid of them just ask for advice/watch videos.

    2) GW flight stems of most types kind of suck and will likely break sooner or later.  Third party, homemade, or just carry around glue and cry a little sometimes.  Oh standard super glue can fog those same stems as well as other acrylic…odorless works well.

    3) Some rules just dont make sense and may take GW years to explain or replace them.

    4) If you are at all serious as a player, hobbyist, or collector…eventually your house will fill up with plastic even if all you want is to “play a 2000 point game”.

    5) GW paint pots (and some paints) kind of suck.  Wash can spill, others can dry out.  I still use a lot of it, but don’t be fooled by it is expensive/official, so it must be the best.

These are not meant to be “top tips” or the most important things, but things I was genuinely surprised to find out.

What it says on the tin. Just picked up some 'crons (courtesy of the inestimable @spagunk) and I don't know how to build out the warriors. My first instinct is to go for the Gauss Flayers, for the extra range, but the Reapers look spicy with the right dynasty (I'm looking at probably going either Nephrekh or custom.) Ideas? Opinions? Arguments and flame wars?

I realized no one has responded to this yet.  In case you didn't build them yet...or want to buy more.  I've been running 20 of each.  I would say every stock dynasty except Sautekh wants reapers in 9th style missions.  When running 2-3 groups, I like to have one group of flayers for some range because it is hard to get 40-60 guys in range of something.

Why reapers?  A lot of fights happen at close range and the flayers want to be in rapid fire anyway.

When are flayers better?  Sautekh or a custom that wants to take advantage of rapid fire rules OR you are custom building against a known list that you want to crush or a specific meta/group.  Something where moving to strength 5 and/or -2 AP doesn't matter.  A mass of slaanesh deamons, genestealers, and orks come to mind.

  3. After reading/watching some stuff about both pre-order books, it seems like there actually IS something salvageable from both for essentially anyone willing to house rule.  The missions themselves seem solid overall stripped of the stuff that the books are supposed to be about.  Ignore that there isn't much story in Pariah, play the missions collecting crusade points or extra CP and pretend it is "chapter approved 2020 narrative".  For Tactical Deployment, either ignore pretty much everything to do with terrain and play "chapter approved 2020 matched play" (yes I am aware that some of the secondaries deal with terrain so ignore those as needed) or modify the terrain rules (adding generic ruins pieces seems borderline necessary as does agreeing "this thing is a storage fane even though it isn't made by GW or built to the exact footprint").

If forced to say who these books are really "for", I would say people who are comfortable house ruling and/or people who mainly play at GW stores where they will surely have a storage fane and whatever else and there's often a focus on 1000 point games (the terrain points seem to make more sense here).

  5. I've been pretty upset for a whole bunch of reasons, but if there was ever a time to be upset, it's during a Covid year when I'm STILL painting terrain anyway.  For good news, Saturnine is amazing.

We are available, if you’d like to avoid the work of selling them.

    https://www.mindtaker.org/sell-us-your-stuff/

I would agree that you probably won’t get a lot of hits with the current post. If you’re content with the slow, time intensive and careful way though, go with that. If you’d like to relax and just let the money roll in, hit us up 😉

Yeah.  I realized (again) that despite my generally verbose nature online, it is difficult to convey nuance and intent.  Basically, I strongly prefer to just sell it slowly over the next few months with a bidding system that takes control away and just lets the market work without direct negotiation.  So why did I even post here?  The last two local purchases that happened (through Ebay) were people semi down on their luck (aren't we all these days?) and when they asked me about where to play, my heart just sank.  I did recommend OF, but I felt like a bad person to shake their hands from 6 feet away and collect maximum market value.  Because of that, I was open to some combination of helping someone out, fostering a newer player to the faction, and having a discussion about the game as a friend.  I knew from the start that I wasn't offering an "online store" experience which is why this post isn't on fb marketplace or dakka or whatever.  I understand the disconnect and the frustration that perhaps I dangled something just out of reach or was generally unclear.  I was trying to not seem patronizing or creepy while offering a discount without the desire to sell faster.

Anyway, I'm cancelling the sale.  I left the post up with stuff crossed out so if someone who is already invested in the topic can revisit it if they want to, and to prevent too much confusion about what this thread even is/was.  I'm not going to reply anymore on thread, but I'm open to PM if someone feels strongly and needs to just be heard.

If Hodor doesn't have any Necron halves left, I may have the Necron half available.  I am not making any concrete plans until the box is in my hands.

To confirm, I have nothing left unless someone drops out.  I'm not asking or hoping for that.  It does look like it is made to order now, but might not see the box until...winter.

  8. Ebay i assume noone is interested in those kind of prices.  I am just offering to work out a lower priced deal on other items that arent there yet.

The reason for no list is I dont have a full inventory.  I am not really planning to make one unless someone shows serious interest in a large purchase.  My default plan is to take 10-15 models/squads a week and just list them online over time, not do a full inventory.

My intention isnt exactly to tease but was just to save myself time and effort.

I will leave this up another day and then just remove it.  I apologize if it sounds too careless or half baked.   I mean no disrespect but only wanted to potentially offer a discount to someone looking for a general starter army situation where they might say.  I have $500 what can we fit into that?  I like hordes or I like monsters.

The total is perhaps 10,000 points of stuff in a whole bunch of boxes mostly still taped in bubble wrap.

  9. Going to the default Ebay over time.  Just ignore the thread.  Sorry for any confusion.

I'm in the process of preparing to Ebay a great deal of my Tyranid collection.  Some of it is already listed.  It has been boxed up for over a year, and I have decided to focus on well..the other three 40k armies I have.  I may push Genestealer Cult more into guard or just buy more rockgrinders/cars, but anyway...

So if I'm preparing for Ebay what am I doing here?  Basically soliciting interest in a bulk buy of the swarm component and some of the monsters I haven't listed yet.  I have probably around 90 termagants, 30 hormagaunts, 30 uh the flying gaunts...can't even remember the name now!

This isn't meant to be particularly cheap.  I am confident that everything will sell for between 50% (gaunts) to 150% (some monsters) of retail on Ebay.  But if someone wants to buy into a painted army and wants to spend somewhere between $500-$1000+ I will make a more detailed list of what I have and negotiate a custom package.  The added benefit of this is that I can tell you how the paint job was done and you can bother me about how to play it.  The highest price I would ask from any Ordo member is the 15% off GW rate... and that's only on the particularly valuable models.

The pictured Maleceptor is already on Ebay, but I had the picture handy and it shows the paint/basing scheme and quality.

I'm not really interested in small splits of just X model or X squad which is part of why I'm listing it this way before I have even done a full inventory.

I would like the book. Just the book.

@Ishfor book...putting it into the spreadsheet.

Oh in case it sounds like I don't want to help from that absurd amount of text...I do.  That's why I ran out and bought 3 of a set I don't even want haha.  Please don't be put off.

I just found the Necromunda split to be a lot more annoyance than anticipated and am trying to head off any problems.

@ninefinger confirmed he can handle game night delivery.  What I mean by I'm not responsible is... if he spills his coffee all over the book, please don't msg me about it haha.

  11. ALL BOXES ACCOUNTED FOR.  Interested parties may still post in case someone drops out and/or to request splits with people who have gotten boxes via other sources.

TL:DR.  Reply with what you want from Indomitus and preferably pre-pay.  (But please read the whole post)

    Paypal: Mr.buytkins@gmail.com

Against my better judgement, I have decided that Hodor, Lord and Savior of the 41st Millenium, will offer boxes acquired via ninja skillz.

I have 3 Indomitus boxes available from Gambits Cards and Hobbies at Lloyd Mall.  I read the posts about people getting left out and spoke to the owner this morning, this isn't something I had pre-ordered weeks ago.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gT1ysV4JzgXJ7tCSnJW5HDILeI_0gGd7z8Dtbxlq1RQ/edit?usp=sharing

I'm asking for $70 per faction and $40 for the rulebook.  The total is the full price ($180) that I paid per box.

Why 40 for the rulebook?  It is just what I felt even vaguely comfortable with as being fair.  Ebay is trending upward now to mostly be $55 the same as 15% off retail.

This is mostly a take it or leave it deal not a negotiation on price or contents because I'm not making ANY profit, I am only trying to support the club / gain karma.  Please buy the whole box/faction and split yourself or discuss privately with others before purchasing about lower/higher prices or "weird" splits like wanting some but not all of the marines.

Pick up will be available at Hollywood Mcdonald's Portland parking lot most evenings or early mornings.  I live close enough to just walk over and am comfortable offering this as an almost at your whim pickup.  I will likely get the boxes ASAP and have them ready by Saturday afternoon/evening July 25th.  Shipping is possible.  Most likely via USPS Priority Post due to weight, but it might just squeak into First Class.  The book alone could be Media Mail.

I don't currently attend game nights, but I would be willing to drop off something with @ninefinger.  He has confirmed that he will accept and deliver items.  For this situation, please pre-pay, and I am not responsible for anything that happens to the box after giving it to OF.

If interested, please reply to this thread so everyone can see when something goes "out of stock".  I will check this occasionally and update the spreadsheet with names and payments.  Paypal  (friends and family), Venmo, or cash in person are all possible.

None of the GW extras are available unless they show up as a surprise.

Concerning the extra rulebooks and assembly guides (The Edge of Silence).  I reserve the right to divide these as best as I am able including digital photos of a double sided page that cannot go to multiple people.  If this is a serious concern, look through the thread above, discuss with a person who wants what you don't and agree on who will get the full instructions and who will get all photos, then reply together saying you want to be paired.  The default is I will just cut up the instructions and divide them.  It looks like the lore/datasheet booklet can be pretty cleanly cut in two.  The instructions, I haven't seen in detail yet.

Marines will come with sprues, bases, transfers, and instructions

Necrons will come with sprues, bases, and instructions.

    Rulebook is just a book.

You can reply and just say you want an entire box.  Anything you do with it after that including negotiating a split at a different price is up to you.

I paid for these, but there is a small chance that something goes wrong.  Acts of god like a truck or plane crash, GW simply not sending the product, opening the box and finding stuff terribly broken.  I will refund anyone who cannot receive the item with those who replied to the post last getting refunds rather than items.

Oh the art inserts in the box...noone has asked but I think I will just give them to OF for club display.  If someone wants them, just request.  I don't think this needs a price.
