40k 8th Edition Escalation League Week 4 Mission
***************************************************************************

This week in the league, we will be hitting 1000 points. That means quite a few things. First off, we are switching to 6x4 tables. I know, I know. Who will you rub butts with if we are all playing on 6x4’s? The answer lies in rolling for Tactical Objectives! That’s right. In 8th edition, GW was sure to include Maelstrom War missions using Tactical Objectives. These missions proved very popular in 7th edition and I would like to visit them in this new edition.

MISSION 4 - Grit

The grand recruiting days are here. The Imperial Navy of Hydraphur needs fresh meat! They have put out the the call far and wide and many groups have come to the training grounds to prove their mettle. The Navy wants forces of great acumen along with a taste for war. They have setup a tactical battle simulation war zone for the new comers to compete in. Come prove your worth and join the Imperial Navy!

Armies:

All armies shall be 1000 points or 50 PL, Battleforged, must qualify for a Patrol Detachment (if you can fit more, go for it! No Brigades, yet though. Any combination of Patrol, Battalion, Vanguard, Spearhead, Outrider, or Auxiliary Support Detachment is fine.).

Battlefield:

Setup terrain on a 6x4. Make sure there is a variety of terrain as the Advanced Rules contain entries for craters, ruins, battlefield debris and other cool things (all of which should be in the terrain room or tubs)!

Since we are using Tactical Objective markers, place 6 objectives, numbered 1-6 on the battlefield. Note the deployment map below requires you to place Objective 1 and Objective 6 in specific places (18” away from each other, 9” away from center point of table). Objectives 2-4 are placed by each player outside of either deployment zone. Roll off to determine who places first. Place each objective more than 12” from any other objective and more than 6” from any table edge.

Deployment:

Please see below image for Altered Front-Line assault deployment. Roll off and winner chooses deployment zone. Alternate deploying units with winner of deployment placing first. Deploy units so that they are wholly within your deployment zone.

First Turn:

The player who finished setting up their army first can choose to take the first or second turn. If they decided to take the first turn, their opponent can seize the initiative on a roll of a 6.

Tactical Objectives:

This mission uses Tactical Objectives. If, at the start of a player’s turn, they have fewer than 3 active Tactical Objectives, they must generate Tactical Objectives until they have 3.

Precious Cargo: In this mission, both players can achieve any active Tactical Objectives titled ‘Secure Objective X’, regardless of which player generated it. In addition, these Tactical Objectives can only be discarded when achieved.

Game Length:

At the end of round 5, the player who is winning, rolls a d6. On a 3+ the game goes to round 6. At the end of round 6, the other player rolls a d6, on a 4+, the game goes to round 7. Game is over at the end of round 7.

Victory Conditions:

At the end of the game, the player who has scored the most victory points is the winner. If both players have the same number of victory points, the player with the lower Battle Points or Power Level is the winner. In addition to Achieving Tactical Objectives, victory points are achieved for the following:

Steal the Loot: If, at the end of the game, one player has achieved more ‘Secure Objective X’ Tactical Objectives than their opponent has, that player receives 1 additional victory point.

Slay the Warlord: If the enemy Warlord has been slain during the battle, you score 1 victory point.

First Blood: The first unit, of any kind, to be destroyed during the battle is worth 1 victory point to the opposing player at the end of the game. If two or more units from opposing forces are destroyed simultaneously, then both players get 1 victory point.

Linebreaker: If, at the end of the battle, you have at least one model within the enemy’s deployment zone, you score 1 victory point.

Special Rules:

Restoratives: Each player may pick a friendly unit at the start of their turn. Roll a d6. On a 5+, that unit regains D3 lost wounds.

***I will have copies of the mission printed out and available at the club.***
