PourSpelur
Anyone know what a decent Dread Mob will look like? Thinking about doing one for next year's OFCC and was just wondering what they generally shake out like now. Shooting for all the walkers I can fit in, mainly focusing on Dreads and Kans. Any opinions?
Ish
Unfortunately, based on the chatter I’m seeing on Reddit, B&C, and so forth, it looks like the Specialist Detachments from Vigilis Defiant aren’t going to be valid in Ninth Edition; This means the Dread Waagh! is out... So if you want to maximize your Deffdreads, Killa Kans, Gork- and Morkanauts, you’ll need to run them in Spearhead Detachments, which cost 3 CP each. At 2,000 Points, you’re limited to a maximum of three Detachments. I’m just spit-balling here, but I think if you ran a Battalion and a Spearhead, you’d be able to fill all nine Heavy Support slots and “pay the Troops Tax” with good old Boyz. You’d be out the 3 CP for the Spearhead, but 12 CP to start plus one per turn should be enough.

Any opinions? It could be very interesting. You can get 3 Deff Dreads per Heavy Slot and 6 Killa Kans per Heavy slot... i honestly would run. With the points adjustment, I can get in everything but the Heavy Support for about 1200 points in a Brigade so you habe 800 ppints to play with in Heavy Support choices alone. PourSpelur
Poop. I was really hoping to go all walkers. From a modeling perspective, I don't really have any interest in converting a ton of troops. Maybe I'll look for some weedy mecha models to run as grot-bots or boyz-bots. The EM4 mechs are cheap and could fit the bill with a bit of the ol' chop-N-swap. Found some inexpensive Gundam type models I'm dying to put the knife to. Called 30 minute missions, about $12-15 each, skinny and tall but with some hunching could make great Deff Dreads with Grot proportions. Now I need to find a base for Kans. Been noodling super deformed Gundams without the bobble-head but they're just above the price I'd like if I'll need a bunch.
Lyraeus
Oh you can go for walkers. It is possible, viable? Not on their own. You will get ob sec out of objectives and people will be bringing a ton of any vehicles to start.
PourSpelur
Well double poop. I really have an itch to do a ton of Grotty walkers. Maybe back to the drawing board? Oooh, how's Tau suit spam looking? Crisis suits, Riptide/that even bigger dood with all the guns possibly and Stealth suits?
Lyraeus
Those all work. I am using 3 Deff Dreads with my orks but its more to my play style
Ish
If you’re more interested in gianty stompy robot action than in any specific faction, it’s possible to field an All-Dreadnought army list with various flavors of Space Marine (and maybe a bit of Forge World). Carab Culln the Risen is a Special Character HQ choice for the Red Scorpions and a Relic Leviathan Dreadnought; Space Wolves offer you Bjorn the Fell-Handed; and Blood Angels have Librarian Dreadnoughts. Then there’s the dozen or so various types of Elite slot and Heavy Support slot “regular” Dreadnoughts.
PourSpelur
All Space Marine Dreads??? Hadn't considered. What's that look like at 2k with the new rules? Interesting. Would check all the boxes. Is it a big stompy robot? Check. That's all the boxes I got. 1

Mulgrok
I was considering a Salamanders all dreadnought list. Ashmantle is an 8 wound venerable dreadnought HQ, from forgeworld. Opponents would require a ton of anti-armor because of their chapter tactic of ignoring AP -1.
Ish
And, of course for completeness sake, if we’re talking big stompy robots we should probably mention Imperial Knights and/or Renegade Knights. They’re the biggest stompiest robots in the game*. * ( Well, technically, Adeptus Titanicus and Dark Mechanicum Titans are fieldable in normal WH40k, but good luck finding anyone willing to play you. Although, I suppose if you have enough money to buy a WH40k scale army of Titans, you can probably also afford to buy freinds.)
PourSpelur
All Dreads is doable as Salamanders? Could be a fun theme to double down on melta and flamer dreads...Da Burny Bot Boyz!

Lyraeus
O.o That is very few models and its rather scary. Still, it would not win a lot in 9th ed. This is due to how objectives are scored now.
PourSpelur
That's a good mark in my book;) Shooting for a fun, heavily themed list for OFCC. Seven Ork'd up walkers serves that up nicely. Could be a bit tough for some lists so I'll have to lean on my Cap to find me opponents with plenty of AT. Will want to do the Leviathans all armed the same as each other, same story for the Contemptors. Makes it super easy for opponents with some crafty modeling. For example I could do all the Leviathans with bosspoles, or giant sunglasses, or three legs..really whatever. Just as long as they have it, it's easy to see and it's consistent. That way I can go bananas on the build and still be a courteous opponent. See the 3 robots wearing giant rollerblades? They're Leviathans armed with X,Y and Z. The 3 robots with the propeller beanie hats? They're Contemptors armed with A,B and C The one robot with fourteen bosspoles and pogo-sticks for legs? That's Ashmantle armed with Q,R and S

That's Ashmantle armed with Q,R and S with my 800 points, I could easily sink 300 of that into 3 Deff Dreads and 500 points left which is upwards of 10 Killa Kans so yea You could make a Full Brigade or even just a Battalion and fill that out how you want

PourSpelur
Got called out! Challenge accepted 😉 Found some inexpensive Not-Gundams from a line called 30 Minute Missions that seem to be a good base to build from. Built one to see how they go together and try out some paint schemes. These doods are cool! Right up there on fit and design with entry Gundams which is a high bar. Plan is to build them to the basic components (arms, legs, torso etc), throw all the pieces in a box, spray an obnoxious neon color, shake the box, spray a different neon, shake and repeat. Hoping it'll give a good psychedelic base to start from. Words, words, words...time for pics of tonight's progress! Built model Disassembled to smaller assemblies, lower arm, upper arm etc Put in some boxes, sprayed a fluro green from one direction, neon citrus from opposite direction. Shake the box, spray a pistachio green and stripe in a lavender
PourSpelur
Since this is a prototype I'm already finding things that I like and dislike. First thing I noticed, I'll be priming all the components white before the neon spray,-N-shake. The colors aren't popping yet. Will need em bright because I plan on doing heavy rust wash. Next thing is I'm really thinking a cross-hatch of the neons over the rust wash will probably look awesome but I'll have to try it out. Plan is to build as many different varieties of these lil mecha as I can, individually grottify each limb/torso and do the shakeNspray. Pull random arms and legs on build step so they all have mismatched limbs.
PourSpelur
Pretty well set on the Ashmantle, Mortis & Leviathan build. Like Seven Samurai... only with homicidal goblins piloting murder-suits, fueled by psychotropic drugs and venoms pulled from every creepy crawler they could pry out from under a rock. Dumb question, where can I find rules and points? Not ready yet? Battlescribe update? GW app that's around the corner?
Ish
The Chapter Approved 2020 Munitorium Field Manual book that was released yesterday has updated points for everything. BattleScribe hasn’t incorporated those changes yet, but undoubtedly a thousand nerds are pounding six thousand cans of Red Bull as we speak and updating those databases... 1
