Alternate Minis

Recommended Posts

I want to start on a new army but want something non-GW. The problem is that full 4500 army and not buy 75 individual figs.

Kings of War has some attractive and affordable army boxes. I love the Raging Heroes stuff but pricey and a little large at 32-35mm scale.

What else should I be looking at?

Depending on what you are looking for:

https://www.momminiatures.com/

https://www.norbaminiatures.com/gb/

https://lastsword.com/en/

If you look on the 9th Age forums under "Supporting Companies" you can also find a number of other shops 🙂

Thanks! I have been working my way through the companies listed but haven't found what I am looking for.

I used thier goblins in my MtW army. The halfling, human, and dwarf models look good.

Shoot, I should have gotten a better look at the goblins, dont think I have ever seen them before.

I thought their dwarves looked good until I got them, then I realized they were not that great. The dwarf rifles are alright (the rifles look much more modern then the big choky blunderbuss types of GW). The "Hammerers" equivalent look awesome, but admittedly I have never seen them in person.

Did you have an army in mind, or were you rather going to look for a model line that speaks to you and just play that army?

If you have any interest in Equitaine, Fireforge is what most of mine are, they are very similar to Perry miniatures or warlord games. You get quite a few weapon choices in the boxes, but the downside is that they re-use most of the main body molds (for both humans and horses). So the differences typically will be in the shield, head, and weapon, between one box and another. Here is a link to a very incomplete blog of how I put together all that stuff:

I am actually very impressed by the goblins. That is too bad about the dwarves. I was considering them.

I am mostly looking for sculpts that inspire me.  I have been looking at teh Fireforge models.
