fluger
Ahh, looking at that it appears to be 3 stormravens and 3 tactical squads. That's prohibitively expensive and cuts into the assaulting elements of the army. Fair enough, it's balanced.

fluger
Yeah, but it's also a single, all-or-nothing roll to bring in the stormravens and that could go horribly wrong.
pretre
It's an all-or-nothing army. Either you win on turn 2 or you lose on turn 1. lol
fluger
Not really, not enough assaulty force with 1000ish points dropped in the ravens and tacticals. Not as dangerous. Oh well.

I dunno, man. You can get two units of Hammernators, a Captain and a jump pack assault squad for under 700, can't you?
fluger
Spending 420 pts on tacticals is the issue.
pretre
Right, but at least you can get some other stuff too.

Guest
Combat squad the Marines and hide some you will want some back field blokes any way. Can't use combat squads. Marines must start in transport, which isn't considered dedicated. Talking about that raven formation, right?
Prophecy
Spending 420 pts on tacticals is the issue. Spending any points on these makes me a sad panda. With the elite detachment I can still use allies to bring elements from the normal force org correct? I mean then I can bring some scouts, bikes, and perhaps a priest to round out the list. Thus you get some teleport homer help.
pretre
Right, but you can't assault out of deepstrike with that allied detachment.
pretre
So interesting note. The formation says that you can assault if you arrive within 12" of 2 homers. Not that you have to use the homers. So turn 1: Fly on the board with your three SR. Drop pods with Dreads arrive within 12" of two of the homers. Profit? I saw that, but it really doesn't seem intended. I think it will FAQed, if it isn't something else (like special teleport homer wording in the BA codex). pretre
I doubt they'll FAQ it anytime soon. I look forward to our turn 1 assault overlords.

pretre
And how many codexes can do that?
Guest
And how many codexes can do that? It can be done. The big question is regarding events that ban certain options. As far as GW is concerned, FW is legal for normal play no differently than these formations are. Though I keep wondering why apocalypse datasheets aren't being allowed. Seem downright balanced with some of the newer formation dataslates.
WestRider
Can't use combat squads. Marines must start in transport, which isn't considered dedicated. Talking about that raven formation, right? Combat Squads doesn't require Dedicated Transports. The two Combat Squads from a given full Squad can get in any Transport together, so long as there's enough space.
fluger
IIRC, the new SM rule is that you don't even have to declare they are split until the get out. I could be wrong about that though.
Guest
Hmmm....looks like you are correct, combat squads no longer requires dedicated transports to split. Although an interesting note is that it does say one must declare combat squad arrangements prior to deployment. I don't think it means this, but as written, an opponent who deploys first could demand that you declare your combat squads prior to his deployment. AbusePuppy
Combat Squads are declared at the beginning of the game, not when you disembark. (That was only with Drop Pods, and was from the previous version.)
VonVilkee
Yeah now that combat squads can share transports (per the new rule and have to be the same base squad) the rule specifically says to declare squads before rolling warlord trait. This means warlord traits that effect units only effects half the squad if combat squads ate used.
Prophecy
My Golden Sanguinary Priest in Terminator Armor just cried a tear of blood. I had a plan for him in my first list and now he has to sit on the shelf. I mean honestly he should have some rules.
