  1. That's right! I totally forgot about the "eventful" 2006 release. I actually just sold my Alarielle so I can't even do that anymore and we will never play! Not no way not no how!
  2. Plus dwarfs waited a fair bit longer than Wood Elves to receive their update (13 years to almost 9 years). Just sayin' that some solidarity about waiting so long for a new book only to watch the edition change pretty immediately is in order .
  3. Considering GW shops pretty much just direct you to a computer in-shop to boost online presence, they don't offer much.
  4. It was a waste of points in a lot of builds, but yes they were both popular.
  5. It is in fact just a flat minus for bringing a bunch of ogre characters because of the potential for abuse much like BSB banners that are calculated based on the biggest unit they could be placed in and not necessarily the one they will be in.
  6. Yeah, that's one of the reasons everyone had it. There also just weren't that many cheap banners (not like today) and many magic banner allowances were 25 pts. Couple all that with editions where combat res was the point and not just breaking Steadfast and the War Banner was pretty killer (although I don't remember it being anywhere near as prevalent as scrolls).
  7. Just remember that, as a Beastmen player, you're required to change your bases each book.
  8. Well, the craziest thing I think I've seen in 8th so far was against a local up here in Seattle who plays Skaven named Jesse. Jesse and I were playing in a 2999 event and I was using my dwarfs. Things were pretty bloody for the both of us and finally culminated in a turn five IF Dreaded 13th. He directed it against my Longbeards with a Lord, BSB, and Rune Priest who had been depleted down to 17 models. He rolls it up: exactly 17 dead and boom, a devastating swing in Skaven favor...until the bottom of five. I head into the shooting phase with the only thing in range of the two Organ Guns (my only remaining guns) being his depleted Stormvermin with the Seer, BSB, and engineer. There were seventeen wounds in all in the unit and I did exactly seventeen unsaved wounds. VENGEANCE IS THE TRUE NAME FOR ORGAN GUNS. While that was pretty crazy the single craziest thing I've ever seen in a game of WHFB was back in 6th ed. It was a 3000 point game (pretty unheard of back then) with High Elves facing off against Lizardmen. Turn one a stegadon that had moved fires a pop shot bolt thrower at a HE Prince on dragon. Shot hits, allocates to the Prince, the ward save is failed, and the Prince dies. For Monstrous Reaction the thing rolls up Panic which panics the unit next to it, which panics the unit next to it, which panics the unit next to it, and so on until the entire High Elf army (every last one) leaves the table turn one without firing a shot. If I remember correctly that steg was converted to be covered in laurels and HE trophies after that.
  9. You should ask around Games and Gizmos on Tuesdays as that terrain is very well done. Hell, talking to the owner might be a great decision if you're looking for partial trades.
  10. No more validity in that than the people still in 6th ed land saying special characters require opponent's permission. End Times is not generally well received among the fussier crowd though so realize that some may refuse to play against it.
  11. I'd be more worried about my opponents. Playing against the same list day in and day out is a great way to kill people's enthusiasm for playing you.
  12. World's dullest army. I'm all for everything professed there except the "never changing your army" part.
  13. The best part of that move is I don't remember ever getting it to, or seeing it, be truly worth the effort.
  14. It's what you get for burying the lead ;) .
  15. I love that most Doombulls are now Birdbulls. Magic Carpet: because my Doombull isn't [big bad swear word]ing walking.
  16. I view everything through Ricky Bobby lenses: if you're not top tier you're low tier . Now back to the show!
  17. Then you've seen my love for Grimgore in particular .
  18. I started with OnG way back when (well more G than O), but I haven't played them since Priestley's rendition. We'll see what 9th brings and then figure out a game although I make no promises about what I'll bring .
  19. I really don't think I'm underestimating the Drakes. a 4+/6++ unit of GW-less Longbeards is not an impressive combat block especially when there aren't that many of them. I do like the way you're running them (and, besides Strollaz, that's how I'd run em too), but I don't think they add to the whole of the list well enough. As for GT's I wasn't the one talking about how crappy they are so I was working with what you gave me . Yes, sometimes they miss, but overall they're cheap and capable of dealing with any army type (something you profess to being a problem for dwarfs). The problem with copters has nothing to do with how destructive they CAN be. No, it's that they're easily avoided with things that are important for a turn or two which is generally all you need to drop them (especially as you're not running enough scary war machines to worry me closer). That's why I like GT's: they do not rely on any metric beyond their target being farther than 12" from them. Dwarf heroes, to me, are their replacement for monsters. Sure you can get more units on the table, but more infantry doesn't do the same thing as lone models. Having a lord greatly increase your tool diversity which is something dwarf are sorely lacking in. Also the Rune of Might is almost never taken competitively. I mean, maybe in your meta it is, but not globally as it doesn't do much to afore mentioned elves. I like it because the harder match up for me is WoC/VC and not the elf match up. As for your BSB, if you want him up front, I'll happily oblige turning him into a splat on the ground for you. Hey, I never said I was a dwarf player. I play dwarfs and have competitively, but the mountain is not where my heart is. Ever since Malekith took the knee to Grimgor my true dream has been realized. ALL POWAH TO DA TRU MASTA!
