  1. I'm convinced that the horrible guitar tone that defines black metal is the direct result of Satan refusing to admit that he lost that fight.
  2. Believe it or not, this worked! Looks like my 29th anniversary gift a weekend playing t9a with you lot. Further proof that I married well.
  3. Not technically metal but still f-ing heavy.
  4. Excellent news! Unfortunately it is scheduled the same weekend as my anniversary so I'm not sure I can make it this year.
  5. I agree with most of what you said except for the "easy to write" part of Capt America. Getting all of what you said into a story with enough action to keep a modern audience interested is very hard. Just look at the DC movies. But the Cap movies are consistently the best of the best not just in the MCU but in movies in general. I am actually really excited to see how Clint Barton fairs in Endgame. I loved what they did with him in Ultron and want more.
  6. I just watched Aquaman and feel much the same. It's not that the movies are necessarily bad, they are just stupid. The characters make stupid speeches and stupid decisions. I'm still trying to figure out Marvel managed to make the Captain American, the most boring boy scout relic of the 40's , into the compelling hero he has become but DC can't do anything even remotely like that for Superman, potentially the greatest super hero of all time. The actually make progress with Aquaman but he goes overboard on the bro-tasm.
  7. Some new brutality from an online friend's band.
  8. For you kids unfamiliar with the system, it is basically old school "proto-GURPS." There is a full sail system but each character only has 3 characteristics and all tests are based on Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. No levelling; you just add to your starting characteristics and skills. It started as Melee and Wizard which are standalone arena combat games so const is fun and full of action. It anyone is interested, I have an extra copy of In The Labyrinth, Melee, and Wizard. I would sell for a good price too spread the love of this great old school system.
  9. When saw last year that the Steve Jackson was doing a Kickstarter for a reprint of the Fantasy Trip, I went a little nuts. I went for the "I want it all" package and it arrived today. Man, there is a ton of stuff here! Top notch quality, too. Man, I spent HOURS by myself in junior high playing Death Test and the other solo adventures. Frankly, I haven't played a real RPG in decades and probably won't any time soon. But you know I will be reliving the joy of Death Test! Just like in junior high, I will probably make tons of characters that I will never play.
  10. Captain Marvel 7.5/10Solid and enjoyable. Reminded more of the first Iron Man than of any other more recent movies. Smart to go a little lighter since Infinity War was so damn heavy. Brie Larsen kills it, for sure.
  11. Does it require co-op or is there a decent solo game?
  12. So is there a sign up sheet somewhere? Because I am so there for you!
  13. Just rewatched Bohemian Rhapsody and decided to read up on Live Aid. My favorite band is Rush and drummer Neil Peart had this to say: "Geddy was involved with the Northern Lights charity record here in Canada, although Rush weren't invited to participate in the Live Aid event – mainly because if you look at the guest list, it was very much an 'in-crowd' situation. We were 'out' by then. We didn't refuse to take part because of any principles. Mind you, I wouldn't have been happy being part of this scenario. Those stars should have shut up and just given over their money if they were genuine. I recall that Tears For Fears, who made a musical and artistic decision to pull out of the concert, were subsequently accused by Geldof of killing children in Africa – what a shockingly irresponsible and stupid attitude to take. But I have nothing bad whatsoever to say about Bob Geldof; he sacrificed his health, his career, everything for something he believed in. But others around him got involved for their own reasons. Some of those involved in Northern Lights were actually quoted as saying that their managers told them to get down to the recording sessions because it would be a good career move!"
  14. No kidding! These games basically got me through Junior high. I went all in on The Fantasy Trip but at $20 per games I am going to pass on this one.
  15. Also every member of U2 is still in their first band.
  16. Fun to read but they also operate on a deeper. "Everyone around is incomprehensible but you have to act like them or bad things happen" is a great insight into the world of autism.
  17. The casting is all around perfect.
  18. Cakesniffer! I loved the whole dark, depressing, glorious show. As a side note, I have always had a thing for Sara Rue and librarians so...yeah... pretty much perfect show.

    Bourbon

A splash of soda and rocks unless I am making an Old Fashioned.

    Bourbon

I absolutely LOVE Michter's American. It like a double rye. So tasty. Tried Larceny for the first time and it is a great bourbon for about $30. Will buy again.
  21. Ready Player One 5/10I know I am in the minority here but I think it is stupid. I have about 10-15 minutes left in it and I doubt I will finish it. The problem is that not only were the 80's my teenage years, I was a massive nerd. The movie plays an obvious series of clichés to me. The final clue is in the hidden room in Adventure? Um, duh. I think the movie and the book (barely made it an entire chapter in that turd) are actually made for younger people who idealize the clichés of what the 80's "were all about." Bleah. Tomb Raider (2018) 6/10+1 point for Vikander who did her best with a wimpy version of Lara Croft. No real plot and the puzzles were dumb. I am also getting really tired of movies that waste Walton Goggins in a cardboard cutout bad guy.Rampage 7.5/10A movie that know is role and plays it well. I wanted to see giant monster wreck a city and then each other and that is precisely what I got.The Belko Experiment 7/10Sort of Lord of the Flies meets Office Space with a whole lot of blood. I think that is supposed to have some commentary on the dehumanization of corporate America or something? Just watch it for guys and gals in suits murdering the stuffing out of each other.Dawn of the Dead 8/10Now HERE is a movie that understands subtext! People holed-up in a shopping mall bonding while fighting zombies. Love it!
  22. I watched based on your review and thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Bourbon

My wife decided to buy me some some whiskey today. She didn't know if I wanted rye or bourbon so she bought both.
  24. Tower Records or GTFO.
