  1. With knights and wave serpente being the big buggaboos of competitive 40k at the moment this is how I'd setup your list (keeping general theme, just swapping a couple of things) Vulkan Command squad (4x melta guns, pod) Legionaires (5 man, Multi-melta, Melta, Combi-grav) Legionaires (5 man, Multi-melta, Melta, Combi-grav) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Tactical (5 man, melta, combi melta, pod) Assault (5man, 2x flamer, pod) Assault (5man, 2x flamer, pod) Knight-Castigator ...and 5 points to throw in a melta bomb somewhere (command squad or a LotD). Plenty of anti-troop so loss of TFC isn't so bad. Lots of twin linked melta, some of which is twin-linked ignore cover (Vulkan's ability works on LotD). Gives you the tools to give IKs and serpents a run for their money.
  2. Just an FYI, Lord of War Gaming posted an update that the Necron dex was still coming, in January to be precise, just not before end of year as other so-called rumor sources were reporting.
  3. 3 Cents do not make a centstar :p Joking aside, seems like a lot of support elements for just 3 centurions. I get that points are tight to get the other goodies on top of the centstar but still, you are investing 600 odd points for about half that many points in cents. If I am gonna throw that much into a star I want more umph out of it. For 3 cents the SW drop list makes a bit more sense, then its just a single psycher and the pod as investment.
  4. I dunno, used to be dedicated transports were not taken without a parent unit, now they can be taken in FA in 7ed dexes. The court seems to be the same sort of thing and could just be the new paradigm going forward. Consider also the ramifications for unbound - if the Archon was required it complicates the 'take what you want' of unbound.
  5. How did they get it wrong? These are the same folks who made the same blunder in the 7ed psychic phase. Should be no surprise. Fast FAQ? Lets see, how long was it between 7ed release and an FAQ on the Psychic phase wording? Should take about that long.
  6. GW released a mission set back in 4ed that was like this to some degree. Called Rules of Engagement. It had its flaws but was ultimately a lot of fun. Still incorporate some of these ideas into current tournament missions. Below is a PDF of those old rules as a reference http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/downloadAttach/31726.page interestingly one of this weeks white dwarf tease phrase for the next is Rules of Engagement. I am hoping they are bringing something like this back.
  7. There are folks out there with the dex and some spanish pics floating about. Below is a compilation from Dark City from various sources (i edited some of it based on info I saw elsewhere) and a link to a QnA with someone that has the dex http://www.thedarkcity.net/t10020p20-i-have-the-book-ask-me-a-question
  8. http://adepticon.org/wpfiles/2015/201540Ktocards.pdf Adpeticon has put together an adjusted set of maelstrom cards. Keeps the general gist of maelstrom but dials back the un obtainable and gimmies. They've also removed the random VPs (flat 2 VPs instead of d3). There's some interesting additions as well (like extra points on the objective scoring ones if they happen to be outside your deployment zone or in opponents deployment zone).
  9. The Harvester is back for a third year. As with last year this is a 'whole hobby' oriented event with a unique mission on every table; equal weighting of gameplay, appearance and sports for overall; and prize support going toward raffles and cool trophies. We are now an ITC event. We had 44 players at our last ITC event (the Storm) and we expect to have similar attendance for the Harvester. So if you are looking for more ITC points this may be your last chance before the LVO. 10. Couple things. --The list would not be legal for 2 detachment formats like BAO/LVO/Nova (you have 1 IK detachment, 1 IK formation and 1 allied detachment). It would be legal at Adepticon though. --Not sure though why you'd make the single IK your warlord. If you make it one of the IKs in the adamantine lance formation you'd then have a rerollable 3++ shield and a very tough to kill warlord. You can't take a knight as Lord of War slot unless its a Forge World one. Why not take the paladin in the lance with two errants and make the paladin the warlord? I'd personally go that route, go with three IKs and beef up the Scions as a CAD.
  11. Lords of Ironthorne pic -- is that a new Archon model? Doesn't look like the finecast one. Imagine 'The Nobility of Commorragh' points to at least that, and hopefully a new Vect kit as well.
  12. Wracks still listed as Elites. Doesn't mean much I suppose, as it could change when the new dex preorders. Definitely gives me pause though. Also part of the codex cover artwork can be seen on the how to paint wracks youtube
  13. Hope wracks are simply troops in the new dex. I doubt they will see play time if they stay elites and the 7ed norm of no FOC swaps continues. Also likely that min sized squad will be 5 not 3. Doesn't bother me but I know they were like DAVU for venoms in a lot of lists.
  14. If you fast dice it, just make sure you don't roll more look out sirs than the character has wounds AND more than there are models that can be allocated look out sirs. But it is perfectly legal (and smart) to roll it one at a time on tough multi wound models.
  15. Clan Raccoon has a multiple use master crafted combi-melta that is explicitly allowed to be used multiple times. Its also 25 points.
  16. This release reminds me of that WD blood angel dex from 4ed. A very sad, nothing new, rules clean-up release that kind of gutted the army as it was (a very powerful dex in its heyday, much like GK) but still left a few workable parts that the hardcore BA fans limped along with until 5ed. Seems very similar for GKs with all the things removed and only some point cost reductions and a few tweaks that are positive changes. Except of course that the BA codex cost ya what, $12 bucks (and was a free download 3 months later). Sadly the command benefit for the strike force is specific to deep strike reserves. So wouldn't affect GoI. Unless there's something I am missing.
  17. Hierophant can be upgraded to transport any 20 models that can go in a transport, not just gargoyles. Think venopthropes and tyranid primes or maybe an assaulty unit of some sort. About the only reason to take one over a harridan rules wise (looks wise I like the hierophant way more).
  18. Like the list. Bummed that the troops in the nid formations are kinda dead weight now though, as they won't have objective secured.
  19. But it still can at best cause a hull point and a non-explode result on the pen chart? I guess being auto hit that ain't too shabby.
  20. Did I miss something with ramming? It seemed pretty tame considering the new damage chart but I admit to not reading it very closely. I saw all the new bonuses to the Strength of the hit, but still not getting what makes it powerful. Maybe I will reread it when I get home.
  21. The cards will always have those silly outlier games where you are down 5-10 VP turn 1. Or games where you are up 10+ VP via your skilled play and then your opponents gets lucky and sucks it out 'on the river card', so to speak. Yes, strategy and tactics did not necessarily play into those types of wins or losses but it doesn't mean there wasn't any throughout the game or that there wasn't that chance to pull off the win. Those are outliers though -- most games the cards should have a natural ebb and flow that encourage balanced lists and not alpha strike or turn 7 objective scrambles. Personally I much prefer the randomness of the cards over the say Scouring where one can end up with a major mismatch for the entire game rather then in one turn. Or Relic where the outcome of the game is usually decided by First Blood. At least with maelstrom there's 5-7 turns where I myself might get a golden opportunity with the right cards.
  22. Congrats to all the winners. Note all the Portlandia folks in the winner circle. Could be one of you all next time. Was a blast. See you all at the Harvester in October! 23. I think its even more simple then that. I mean really beancounters aren't concerned about balance and game theory. Is there a reason outside of apoc to own more then 3 of most stuff? Ohh and speaking of apoc, who plays that on a regular basis? Almost no one. All that money spent on super heavy plastic and few people bother buying them in comparison to say a riptide. From a beancounter perspective all that the FOC and Apocalypse/vs regular 40k does is keep people from buying more kits. So its no surprise that a company that has already cut costs everywhere for years is looking for more efficient revenue streams. Why try and make new kits when you can easily give players a reason to buy more of the current ones. The ones you already spent years developing and 500k in tooling molds for -- so there's no additional costs showing up in your quarterly reports.
  24. **Storm Attendees please read!** Here is a consolidation of Restrictions and FAQs at use at the Storm of Silence GT. Sorry for the delay, needed to add our own rulings on Astra Milatarum and Skyblight. It was also more work to get all the IGTC FAQs. Included in this document is the following: --A reiteration of the codexes, supplememts and rule sources allowed at the Storm, to include our patented Special Allowance rules. --Our WYSWIG and counts as rules. --The IGTC FAQs (additional rulings and clarifications made by us in red) --A reprint of the Strong Hold Assault errata to fortifications --The Adepticon Forge World FAQ Any questions or concerns let us know. Look forward to seeing you all next weekend! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_WI3nvXVrtASWNCV0l0WDFRSDg/edit?usp=sharing
  25. Reminds me of 3ed with all the trial rules half way through its life cycle. In a lot of ways fitting for 6ed. Both 3ed and 6ed were major overhauls that ended up being played not how the authors intended (in my opinion anyways) -- hence the need for updates. Should note that while natfka is always a coin toss the guys at 40k radio have been pretty spot on since SM release and they were the ones to first report this awhile back.
