  1. The spaciousness of the venue was great. The homeless guys, thugs, and hookers walking through the venue...not so much. :)
  2. Sorry bro's Maelstrom blows....can't stop rhyming. In concept they are genius, but as we have them they are often lopsided terrible games. Stoobert on my team had all 5 games be a blowout one way or another due to the maelstrom cards. I had most all of my games as well get quickly decided in the early turns with two to three decided turn one. Ben Cromwell scored 8 maelstrom points round one due to mission type and army type and completely reamed me. Even my closest and most epic game was decided on turn 4 when he got the right cards and rolls for them. I love the concept but my continued random pulls of getting great points one way or another is frustrating and makes it not fun for many. I know I heard from a lot of people at OFCC that felt the same way.
  3. Just my feelings about Maelstrom missions after many recent played games.... Maelstrom Go back (Sung to the tune of Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot) I hate Mael-strom and I cannot lie! Even though other brothers still deny When you pull out those cards On the very turn one and the points go up to 9? I get hung Wanna jump off the cliff Cause you know the game is already done Those Maelstrom make me swearin Cause random sure ain’t fair-in Oh baby! I wanna 52 ya Reecey and G tried to warn me Those cards you got Fill me with Khorne-y OOOOH Maelstrom goodness You say you love that game Well screw me tattoo me Cause the game is over and we haven’t even played… Oh yeah, Captain phAt in the house! Can you dig it! Can you feel it playah!
  4. He didn't like it when the Bastion came down on his head...
  5. I gotta do my objectives, add flock to bases, and fix some troopers bases. Trouble is tonight is league night and the inlaws are coming in tomorrow. Blergh. Guess the inlaws get to see the geekness in action!
  6. Where is the time schedule for the 40k ofcc? Can't find it in the original post.
  7. The other issue is that the rules in the rulebook are not written for a tournament format but rather a single game.
  8. I have: OFCC Base Imperial Knight Base 5 Marines Wash 10 Ass Marines Add details to 4 Drop Pods Finish Combi weapons on Tac Sarges Open 1 Dreadknight +base 5 Termis +base 1 Librarian +base 1 Draigo +base Extra detail as necessary.
  9. The biggest problem with this is that there is no "straight list" in any game of 40k. You have to have a gentleman's conversation about the nature of the kind of game you are playing: Narrative, Unbound, CAD, Apocalypse, or whatever as everything goes now. Tournament Organizers have a hard time to set the tone for the event, working to exclude or tone down the most abusive elements of the game to make things as a whole more palpable for everyone. The rules shown above are the TO's gentlemens convorsation for all of us since we can't really do that at a tournament.
  10. Yeah it is in the "Specialist Weapon" USR or in the Melee Weapons rules...or in the building section. You know GW.
  11. Think you still get the bonus attack. Power fist and Great sword/hammer are all specialist weapons so you get the bonus +1.
  12. I get that people want the hammers for armor 2, but I have a lot of ap2 elsewhere. I'm also thinking about MC's and other big baddies, vehicles and what not where having that many more s7 attacks would be so much more valuable. I've seen a lot of talk about taking falchions for the extra attack, but that squad wouldbe kinda worthless against a wraithknight. Halberds to me are seeming like a better all around choice with a hammer if i can squeeze the points in.
  13. Any thoughts on the new GK Terminator Loadout? I know everyone is bemoaning the halberd nerf, but with what is available is it all that bad? For the cost of one hammer I can get 5 halberds, with hammerhand that comes out to 10-15 s7 ap3 attacks verses 2-3 s8(10 w/hh) ap1 attacks. Any thoughts? Just seems to be a pretty cheap way to get a lot of higher strength attacks in my termies.
  14. I had thought I knew what I was bringing to the Open until I played Jeremy and he rofflstomped me with his whitecsarspacechicken list of doom.
  15. I got a gross list I'm thinking of bringing...we should play a game.
  16. I believe that is just a preview of the one that is in the book.
  17. Which one, the big one or the deep strike one?
  18. Hey all, I recently designed a set of 40k tokens and am hosting them through Frontline Gaming. They are pretty all encompasing with race specific and basic tokens/counters for psychic powers, morale, turns, vehicle effects, and more. They are also designed to fit on top of a 25mm fantasy base. You can see more about it in my how to article here: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/2014/09/05/catpainas-free-gaming-tokens-tutorial/#comment-313623 Thanks!
  19. I'll miss building character with you. Have fun!
  20. Well if he is talking about deploying at full stop, then it must be minefields.
  21. I kinda think we are doing mines wrong. The Minefield MAR states that you must put the mine within 12" of the center line of the board. That is going to put the mine 12" away from the board edge. Most deployments are 8" in so only if you put your ships right on the line will the mine be so close that it blows when it is activated. Am I right?
  22. I have three FAT Mats and they are so awesome. I have the Urban pictured above and the deployment zones are so nice to have. The mats are so much more than just cool looking as they do a dual purpose of making it easy to move minis and your dice don't bounce all over like the GW plastic ones, which i've played on as well. The GW plastic ones the models slide on the slopes and rolling on them is like rolling on a snare drum...so loud! I also like that they turn any 4x8 surface into an instant quality looking gaming table. Biggest drawback is the smell though. It still hasn't stopped that mouse pad smell.
