  1. http://themostexcellentandawesomeforumever-wyrd.com/topic/127657-wave-5-playtesting-read-me/ Could'nt be more excited for wave 5 right now. Looks like the 3 characters from Divergent Paths were all fleshed out into models with some pretty fun abilities that were bestowed upon them during their adventures to Malifaux. These arent final, just giving people an opportunity to give feedback to the game developers for finishing touches. I think its a fresh take on gaming and community involvement.

More and more folks succumbing to Malifaux. Have a few demos set for this weekend. Just read this article and thought it was worth sharing, a very good breakdown of the game if anyone is interested in getting a solid synopsis. CHeers! https://www.frontlinegaming.org/2016/02/16/so-you-want-to-start-malifaux/
  3. Its a trap. ;) But Im biased. Lots of little skirmish games giving big war games a run for their money, gotta keep up. I'll just have to wait and see how it translates from AOS down to a smaller game like this perhaps they'll add wrinkles of depth. I really want to like it. My Skaven havent seen the tabletop in a very long time...

He can. My first time facing Lucius and his riflemen. It was a brutal crew with Peacekeeper, Ryle, Captain Dashel, and the Lone Marshal. Thats a tough front line to get through to get those riflemen dealt with. Not only that but neutralize the leadership wasnt the best scheme to pick against Lucius with all his movement shenanigans. I got the alpha strike with Chompy but was denied when you just swapped places with a lesser minion. LOL. Good stuff, good game. I wont let that happen again, Yarb! :) until next time!

Hey Jesse. I am fairly new to the Malifaux as well and have had a great experience getting into the game, minus all the losses at Breaching the Faux a few weekends ago... Losing is part of learning though, I am getting better.... I think. :) Between different podcasts, forums, and dedicated websites there is a lot of information about this game. People are very generous in sharing ideas and concepts with each master and how to properly play them in most situations. Schemes and Stones is a great tactical podcast that focuses on a master at a time. Its a good thing to listen to these very structured interviews to get an idea of how masters you are interested in play. The game structure here is what alleviates net listing and competitive standards that would see certain models never being taken. Wyrd as a company is very good about updating and balancing existing models so they all see play. This is based on hard data they that collect at tournaments and from Henchmen in the community so i feel the changes come from somewhere solid and not just people complaining on the internet. Maybe not though, Im still new. The way they release models with Waves is another balancing structure that keeps the flow of models and power creep spread across all factions. Generally there are beaters, summoners, support, and control masters and each faction has masters that are better at each play style. With that the general pool of models in the faction work with any master regardless of key words or theme. The balance in this game is by faction not by master. I know the tendency is to buy up all of the themed models for a master, but thats not usually the best method. My advice is to pick 2 masters from a single faction and focus on them until you have can play them without too much thought. The game is overwhelming at first and limiting what models you bring to the table can be hugely beneficial when starting out. Learning/Demo games can take up to 3 hours but when you have it down they typically take 1.5 to 2 hours. To get into the game, a $15 small rule book, a $50 starter box, and a couple extra boxes $10-$20 each (support local game stores BUT there are deals on EBAY that are really good. Master boxes for 35-40) and you will have a master full equipped for learning the game. After you've played some games with those models start adding in places you feel you are lacking. You need a lot of counters and a deck of cards too. You can bypass counters by using washable pens and writing everything on the cards, but I find that the visual representation next to the models helps us remember a little better as there is usually quite a bit going on... So to get into the game with a single master you're looking at $100-$150 and for a Mini game, that's pretty darn good.

Portland Game store has a good Malifaux showing on Tuesdays. Typically meet up there between 5-6pm and go until close. I'll be heading there tonight for a pickup game if anyone wants to check it out. I will bring an extra painted crew to loan someone for the night.

I know... dreadful. Seriously, let's play Malifaux.
  8. This game rules. Hands down best game I've gotten into since WHFB back in 5th edition. If anyone is interested in learning the game let me know and Id be happy to demo a game with you. In in Vancouver/PDX.
  9. I will certainly be there Friday night for gaming.
  10. Going to be a fun weekend!! I actually put together another Master for my NB (Zoraida) and got her painted too! Looking forward to seeing the turnout and getting some more games in.
  11. Had a good crowd playing at Guardian Games on Friday night, got a great game in against 10 Thunders. Looking to go to The Portland Game store on Tuesday for another. Learned a lot in the match. I have never played against Shenlong before (havent played against most masters). I assumed he was a Melee powerhouse so I certainly tried to keep my distance. He was able to use Hans (outcast Merc) and Yin to completely nullify Teddy around one of the stashes leaving my weaker minions to have to deal with Shenlong and Sensi Yu. Very well played. I learned the value of initiative and cheating defenses to prevent early turn triggers that can take your enforcers out of the game. You cant cheat your fate later if you cant activate the way you want to, so you have to burn those good cards early on to nullify two very key activations from Hans and Yin. With DF being low on teddy it was sometimes not even cheatable, again, well played on my opponents part. Luckily my summoned dudes countered my loss of teddy and still kept me somewhat in the game. I am really enjoying the strategy and decisions this game forces you to make. I havent had this much fun with a game in years. The Dreamer is certainly a glass "summoning" cannon and I find myself completely overwhelmed when activating him. With a breadth of options on most Master and 3 AP to spend it can be a quagmire to decide which way to go about your plan. I just need more time with the game, a better understanding of what other models are trying to do. With so much variation, I'll be at it for a while. I have never painted more in my life either... 25 models in like a month.... Crazy. Check this game out if you havent or if you are looking for a change of pace on the tabletop, you wont be disappointed.
  12. Gonna roll down to Guardian Games in Portland and try and get a game or two in tonight. Anyone around? Wanna plan something? Just finished painting Bandersnatch last night, looking to see how his crazy rules work in game. Lets play! Let me know.
  13. I really like this game. I need practice though! Anyone who is available in or around Vancouver and Portland please let me know. I have the Dreamer and crew fully painted and ready to roll. I also have unpainted Guild and Gremlin for loan if you are a new player or as another option. I can host or we could meet at a game store in the area. I signed up for Breaching the Faux in Bellevue in April and would really like to play through the scenarios prior and fine tune my strategies to quicken my pace of play.
  14. Name: Matt Location: Vancouver/PDX Available: Typically evenings & weekends Forces: The Dreamer, Sonia Criid, Zipp. Where: Vancouver/PDX.
  15. Ticket purchased! Really looking forward to this. Whats everyone planning on bringing? I'm going to play the Dreamer.
  16. There isnt a Portland Malifaux scene.... on Ordo at least, I know that. LOL. Im going to the Tri-Cities this weekend to play for the first time with my bro and all his friends. I will let them know about this and perhaps you'll get a group coming out from there.
  17. I will plan on making this event for sure. Thank you for putting it on. I have no doubt this will be a fantastically fun event as you guys always go above and beyond.
  18. This is a good deadline for me to have my army completed. It'll be on squares though, hope that's cool. I will be there with Skaven. Havent played much AoS so go easy on me, please.
  19. Thanks Jay, that's awesome. Perhaps next Sunday, got the big game this weekend. AND I should have my crew fully painted by then. I'll send you a PM.
  20. @mirrur, excellent news, Im glad it has support up there. I find myself up in Seattle from time to time, been to some pretty great WHFB tournaments up there before that game died. Id come to an event up there with some prior planning. Where do you guys post information about events and tournaments?
  21. Rad. Well, it is what it is, thanks for the heads up guys. I was a big fan of Confrontation 3.5 as well which was similar to Malifaux in its design and strategy, nobody plays that either. Cool. If anyone around PDX gets a wild hair and wants to play, PM me.
  22. Im very surprised at the lack of interest in this game in the Ordo Community. Wow. I know Im late to the game but the new plastic models are fantastic, plenty of flavor, support from Wyrd, and a smaller more manageable table top game set. This game seems to be on the rise just not here with the Ordo crowd. Whats not to like? Am I missing something, What happened?
  23. Id be in on something like this. Its been a while and would be my first AoS event though.
  24. Awesome Dkieft, thanks for the heads up about The Portland Game store, its not too far away and Tuesday nights are usually free. I'll go check that out in a week or two. GG is a little bit of a commitment, but on a Friday night I could see myself going down there. The game isnt all that big so its really feasible to play on your kitchen table. Enough players own terrain or could use books or other random things to "count as". I prefer NOT playing at game stores honestly unless its a tournament or something. With that I can understand a lighter presence at the stores looking for pickup games. As for Weav... LOL. GOOD ONE. I know the Ordo community well enough to take that with a grain of salt. And perhaps I'll check it out. Im pretty mad at GW though...
  25. I just got a few crews (Zipp & The Dreamer) and have been furiously painting them. These are some awesome models and extremely gratifying to paint up, lots of detail and character for sure. Just wondering if there are any folks in the Vancouver/PDX area that would like to get together and play. I have read the rules but still havent had a chance to get a game in with anyone. Anyway, whats the community like, is it dead already? or maybe in need of a resurgence? Cheers.
