  1. Id randomize, its the only way to be fair about it. Good question though.
  2. Thanks for the info Pretre, I appreciate you making it available on this site rather than us having to go anywhere else for it. Very much looking forward to this release, we will have a lot to talk about at the OFCC.
  3. Just relaying the Whineseer attitude where you copied these rumors from. All is good! Im stoked! WHFB players are so oppressed though.
  4. Oh yeah... Forgot to be the contrarian nerd that is too cool to get excited about anything. Sorry... "This actually looks really dumb and TWF is a poser" Is that better?
  5. HOLY [big bad swear word]ING [big bad swear word]!! Greatest rumors I have ever read!
  6. @ Nate, that was a great game, there were certainly moments where I felt like the Dwarfs were going to steal a victory.Tooled characters always give me problems, I dont have an answer for your lord or BSB especially with Bugman in there healing them.. Lucky shot with the WLC to get the runesmith and like 13 beards. Couple of irresistible plagues and yeah, no block can handle that. The slayers and the monks would have annihilated each other either way, it was a bit easier with the flank charge, but still, unbreakable is powerful. Interesting Dwarf list for sure. I am interested in playing around with comp 20 Skaven lists. IDK if its possible, they'd be an interesting sight. I have the models to do whatever I could come up with, perhaps Ill post some lists later. AND comp the one I plan on using in the OPEN. @ MexicanNinja...Challenge accepted!! Ill take the EK, whatever!
  7. Hello, Im looking for 10 plastic stormvermin to complete my OFCC list, wondering if anybody had some extra they dont need. I have paypal! Thanks!
  8. Dont get me wrong, unit fillers are cool, i just find it more difficult to use them effectively on round bases. Usually the unit fillers are on bigger bases than the unit is mounted on and take up more space, i just cant see a bunch of small round bases with a larger base representing a larger group of soldiers, just doesnt seem feasible. Do people use unit fillers in 40k? Perhaps I havent seen many good examples.
  9. Seriously! So incredibly excited to read a new rule book over a few cups of coffee, talk new strategies, re learn how to play my armies. Ive been playing this game for a very long time and I really do feel like a change is necessary at this point. Thats not to take away from what 8th edition is/was, the greatest edition of the game by far! I dont think that sentiment will change with 9th. For some of us it may take time, some dont like change, but if its anything like 7th to 8th, it will clean up some of the sloppiness of the system and hopefully add new elements that will challenge all of us to come up with new ideas and strategies. Warseer has Lizardmen posted on round bases, meaning, Lizardmen arent gone like many of us were afraid of, but round bases have been introduced to WHFB. THe speculation is that it doesnt matter what base you are on, but in my opinion i think they are trying to squash the trend of unit fillers, or very large unit fillers IN UNITS. As much as I love the artistic expression and dynamic of modeling to that extent, buildings walking around with soldiers surrounding it does look silly when the table is supposed to have the terrain features acting as game elements. Again, not to say I dont like unit fillers, I can just see them wanting to get away from that sort of mentality, as they can sell more models. Anyone else looking forward to this?
  10. I did save my Grey Seer against your shenanigans! The game after I faced Evan who got off Fate of Bjunta... I thought, "alright, Ive got a 2+ vs that and Skalm, I should be fine" He did 5 wounds and I rolled three 1's for my saves. SUCH A BUMMER!! Evan and I like to do that to each other in game. I killed his Doombull on turn 1 with a cannon and we tied 10/10 with most of our armies destroyed. Wrath! Game 1 Vs Frazier 7-13 L Game 2 Vs Ben S. 10-10 T Game 3 Vs Ricky 14-6 W Game 4 Vs Jeremy 11-9 w Game 5 Vs Evan 10-10 T I mean, look at these scores, I couldnt have asked for better games against better opponents. All of you guys were a blast to play against and really made the game difficult to win with all my Skaven cheese. Ive decided I need another close combat element in the mix, I brought more shooting and magic than I normally do and felt inconsistent due to the lack of punch in close quarters. I understand that Skaven have the hardest time with this but Im thinking that some PM with a furnace, SV, or tunneling stormfiends. Also considering the Verminlord with the Brass orb so I can have 2 of those wonderful items on the field. IDK, I ll have to mull it over. Ill be sure to bring the cheddar to the OFCC open, so look out....sir. Big thanks to Jeremy for putting this event on! Great times, I will be back!
  11. Frazier and I are playing a game of Warhammer!! FINALLY!!!
  12. Its heavy armor for 5+. Also 2+ward vs fire and 6+ ward.
  13. No, its not a fighting game, but it is VERY similar. And scrubs are more prevalent in WHFB than fighting games, I think its a valuable article to read if you play any game competitively. How are fighting games balanced? Some characters are better than others and the metas can change as the player pool develops the strategies necessary to compete with those characters. Some players prefer to play lesser characters due to the unfamiliarity with them, its a matter of choice and personal style/preference. They also develop over time as new characters can be added, mods, patches. This is the same as new releases in WH, updated army books. I mean, you can disregard the article because you dont see GW games as competitively designed but why do we choose to have tournaments? 99% of people I play want to win, therefor this article is valid because it recognized self sabotage in list building and attitude towards actually playing the game. People wont do things that are out of the narrative at times, like the amount of crap Romes received for falling back with some SkullCrushers against Oncebittens Brets. Romes won the game because of that choice, it saved him points and drew in the bret player for a flank charge with his lord. Now most people boo'd him saying "Skull crushers dont run", but that is not how you win at this game. You make the best decision at the time and dont let the narrative decide your strategy, I see that quite often. Good discussion. Always.
  14. ""This is where this article diverges from WHFB or any GW game at all. It isn't designed for high level play."' And that's your opinion, I disagree completely. The game requires a broader understanding of the multiple variables and the players ability to disregard what isnt important. Not only that, the learning curve is steep and the time it takes to be good is extensive. Competitive WH isnt for everyone, thats for sure, but I know plenty of people who play to win and do win with very diverse army lists. A lot of focus is put on the written list as this is important in making a tool box, much of what determines who wins or loses happens between turns 1 and 6. Decision making on the table is what separates a good player from a mediocre one. We all write pretty good lists, and if you dont, you've chosen to handicap yourself. Also, you must consider that sportsman scores are a part of tournament play meaning there is a fine line between bringing a list and playing the type of game the will still get you high marks in sports. Paint scores can also be as important in tournament play along with scenario objectives, a lot to consider if you want to consistently place high in a 5 game tourney or a tournament circuit. Well rounded players that love the hobby and game typically are good at promoting it also, they play good looking armies, theyre nice guys (or gals), and they want everyone to have a good time, even if they are winning. I just think most people dont want to put in the effort to actually be good at WHFB, they just want to win out of the gate. In my experience the guys that win tournaments are true enthusiasts and thats the point. I have yet to see someone muddle their way to the top of a 5 game tourney with a "broken" net list. Thats a Myth.
  15. This article has been posted before on these forums, I just thought it was a brilliant piece of writing. It pertains to fighting games more than WHFB or tabletop games, but I feel like video fighting games are as close to table top games as we can get. I think that the SCRUB mentality is more prevalent in board games though and this article should be read by everyone who wants to comp the hell out of this game. I like NO COMP. http://www.sirlin.net/articles/playing-to-win Ending. "It's also totally fine to mess around with no intention of ever becoming really good. You don't have to try to be the best at every game you play. I certainly don't try that, it would be exhausting. But when I see someone else trying to be the best, I admire it, rather than condemn it. If that makes the game fall apart, I hold the game developer responsible, not the player. But if you want to win—if that's your intention—then you need to leave behind whatever mental baggage you have that would prevent you from making the moves that actually help you win. By doing that and practicing and learning, you can walk the path of continuous self-improvement that Playing to Win is really about."
  16. Final game of the tournament I played against Michael. He was a new face for me, Id never seen him at any other tournaments because he is a somewhat newer player. He played a Karl Franz empire army that was nicely painted and a blast to play against. Well balanced all the way around with a few units of demigryphs and a coulple WMs, knights, and halbs. This was a really crazy game, I managed to get Karl with a brass orb on the bottom of 2, Michael rolled a 6 for his Initiative test, wow, I was flabberghasted. Without that I dont think I would have had a chance. After Karl was gone, my opponent didnt give up and honestly made quite a game out of it. He cast dwellers in desperation on my main block and was able to get my BSB and WL, next turn he cannon sniped my Grey Seer out of the unit, I failed my LOS and Ward save, RATS!! It was impressive how he was able to come back and really make me fight for the win. What a great game and good player, its refreshing to see people getting into the game and bringing it! Michael "gets" Warhammer and will be a force to reckon with after he gets some more tournaments under his belt. Thanks to Ricky and Tiffany for putting on such a great event! By the end of the game my regiment of renown had the following: -Standard of Slowness (subtract D6" from charge ranges against them) -Fight in 3 ranks, -WS5/I5 -Killing blow -2 Bound spells from the lore of life My hero of renown: Heroic KB WS7/I7 Ogre Blade Dragon Helm
  17. Game 4 vs ClassicFlava's Lizards. Ryan is becoming my tournament arch nemesis. We have played 2 games so far and they've both been absolute ball busters. Ryan has got me twice, I was unable to seize victory after a pretty smashing turn 1. TWICE!, Ive taken first turn facing Ryan to go up early only to have him grind me down to an inevitable loss. This is a testament to Ryans knowledge of the lizardmen army. He doesnt give up after taking mass losses and knows how to counter punch effectively. I felt like I was in good position for turn 2 enough to push my Grey seer's unit into range of 13th and some other nastiness I was planning. Slann was able to get a spell off, of course, switch a spell for death, got snipe and killed my Grey Seer bottom of 2, I failed a bunch of MR boosted ward saves, BUMMER!!!. That was rough, still had a fighting chance, but couldnt stop his Slaan and Saurus. That unit got into my deployment zone only to take out like 3-4 blocks of rats. Wow, I need to find a way to get that Slaan off the board because I really dont have an answer. Very well played game, I had an absolute blast even though I was without my Seer most of the game. I will get my revenge soon! Great game Ryan! Until the next time.
  18. My third game I faced Kremmets Eternity king list featuring Malekith and Allarielle. A very fluffy list that really does follow the story arc of the End Times books. This was a super tough match up for my list and Kremmet is a great general, I dont think I even had a chance during this game. He got a long charge off with his BG after scrolling a dreaded thirteenth that he had hidden in his regiment of renown, not that it would've helped all the much in the end but it would have perhaps kept me steadfast or deterred him from charging in the first place. He used the lore of Undeath on Malekith and was able to chaff up the Abom really well on the left flank and combine a charge into a corner I left exposed on my bunker, that combined with the BG and Allarielle in a flank, it was laughable how [big bad swear word]ed I was. In desperation my other block of Clanrats charged Malekith in the front and my Abom in the rear, challenged with my unit champ and won combat by one. My eyes went wide when he rolled an 11 on his first break test, but luckily his BSB was right there and he made his reroll, barely. My Abom would have caught him in pursuit, I KNOW IT!! haha!I Even getting tabled I have got to say, I learned a lot in this game, had great time playing Kremmet, and I would rematch anytime.
  19. This was easily one of the best events I have ever played in and its surprising given the fact that this was a completely open, unbound, un-comped no holds bar, everything goes. You'd be amazed how things shook up. The top tables WERE NOT full of gimmicky lists, it was all the great players I have come to know, bringing lists that were interesting and fun, albeit hard as nails in the hands of solid players. I think over the course of 5 games RPS lists that invest a lot in single models will have a hard time being consistent unless they get lucky with match ups. I brought a 6.3 Skaven list, no special characters, a single WLC, Abomb, and Doomwheel. Standard, 2x40 slaves 2x35 clanrats, 2 darts, 6 GR's, 10 Jezzails, Grey seer, 4 warlocks (all the toys, orb, globe, and rocket) Bsb, and a worthless WL on bonebreaker (dude sucks). I think i was in the top 15 with an 81 battle score. I was able to brass orb a Great Chaos Dragon, gotta love I1 on big dudes, and I did get Karl Franz with it, luckily. I played 5 great games against great opponents, I needed to have 5 favorite pins. Swan of War was my first game of the tournament. His warrior army is one of my favorites in the region, he did a great job of making a themed army that has potential to play well and turn heads with its beauty. SOW admitted it had been a while since he'd gotten some games in, and he had a bad match up against the Skaven, just too many high S, no armor stuff. I was able to take a few charges, hold and take out the elements one at a time. A great game, a great sport, and my favorite opponent day 1, I hope to rematch soon. Second game was against Ricky from the great white north of Canada, another Chaos player. He brought Belakor and a Great chaos dragon. I had no Idea how i was going to deal with those two elements. I luckily baited the Dragon with my Abom, they CAN flee, and I did, he had to re-direct into slaves only to eat a Brass Orb to the face the next shooting phase. I love shooting into combat. The same turn Belakor tempted fate with the WLC and lost. Thats 1200 pts in one shooting phase, super gross. Ricky was a great sport about it and we had a great game anyway enjoying chaos shenanigans, his Lord could NOT pass a LD test all game.. Id seen Ricky around at other events and never got a chance to play him, happy to get the chance this time. I always end up playing his brother Shayne, who ended up placing 1st in best general, congrats to Shayne. ** Thank you for clarifying ClassicFlava. Congrats to Sol for winning best overall!! His Gwar regiment was truly awesome. 3rd 4th and 5th small recaps to come.
  20. I started a new thread called SPDM 6. We had a blast. Almost jacked your thread Nate, my bad! The Purple People Eaters ROCK!!!! xD
