  1. That certainly could be. And of course, one effect of that is... you need more STUFF. $$$$-ching! Well, SOME people would need more stuff. I know some of you guys probably already have 10k points in your favorite chapters. ;)
  2. Oh, I don't disagree with you there - but I don't think that necessarily means that forces need to be given hundreds of points of free stuff in response. If anything, encouraging a horde of free vehicles just makes me even -more- likely to take D weapons/haywire. An 'escalation' of sorts, I suppose, but even then - I'm paying points for those weapons - while that formation isn't paying points for transports - some of which are actually pretty darned good. Maybe few Marine players would actually play a force like that, though, requiring that many pods/razors/rhinos. We'll see! :)
  3. There's a small group of players that play it in north Vancouver. They're starting a new campaign next month and I am going to try to get in on that. :) Like a lot of the 'specialist' games, there are people who play, they just seem spread out and hard to find. :(
  4. Free stuff is still free stuff. Doesn't matter if its rhinos, razorbacks, drop pods or weapons platforms. Stuff has points costs for a reason, and tossin' out free stuff sortta defeats that purpose. Saying, 'Well, Eldar/Admech have this or that" as an excuse for free stuff doesn't change that - Admech/Eldar still pay points for those weapons (as far as I know). I've always hated this about games with 'summoning' rules, too. Yeah, you at least pay the points for the summoner, but whipping up free units of stuff just unbalances the game even more. I've read the threads here (and elsewhere) bemoaning the lack of 'balance' in GW's games... but I'd argue that handing out free stuff only makes it -worse-. If GW really did create 'free stuff' as a way to pad an army against D-weapons - that's just lazy rules-writing to the extreme. Personally I think they did it just to sell more figs (which is their job and goal, after all). I bet pretre is putting in his order for another half-dozen drop pods this week! :)
  5. They depart us in threes... so I wonder who the 3rd is going to be.... I remember watching Dusty Rhodes when I was a kid and thought wrasslin' was 'real'. I was never a huge fan of his, but I always thought he was fairly entertaining, and he really seemed to love doing what he did. RIP. -Tim
  6. If you want to use more Marines - can't you just play an Apoc-sized game? Or are Apoc rules not used in 7th? I've always avoided games of that size so I really don't know. I'd much prefer 1250-1500 point games, myself, not -bigger-. :P
  7. Curious, forgive the silly question, but.... Do your transports ALL have to be the -same- within the detachment? Or can you mix/max razors, rhinos, and pods to your heart's content?
  8. Isn't there like a week-maximum hold on those things? (rubs hands together eagerly) I can be at your place in 10 minutes!!! :)
  9. Thanks for the info, pretre! Very curious and a bit excited to learn more! Story advances will make fluff-folks happy. All current minis usable = good thing, for sure. I actually just bought a bunch less than a year ago, would really suck to find out they weren't usable. LOL. And a 'new system'... VERY curious. This could be a pretty substantial departure from what we're all so used to. Thanks again!
  10. Reading all this makes me want to dust mine off... Now if only pretre would sell me those gargoyles..... ;)
  11. Sorry, sorry - I had some weird lag on my phone making me think I didn't hit the 'post' button so I did it again. My apologies. :)
  12. WHAT? You do not have your rulebook handy? Your emperor would be displeased!!! :)
  13. Yeah, nova is wicked - ignores LOS, being locked in combat, intervening models/terrain, etc. Very awesome.
  14. I know. I'm a huge fan of the show. I just want whatever it is - looks like a mousepad. :) As for the hex-base in the blister pack... they can keep that. I haven't toyed with hex-bases since Battletech. lol.
  15. I want the poster or whatever it is that is UNDER that blister pack!!!!!!
  16. Just be sure your ad states, "PRO PAINTED", no matter how bad they are, how many colors there are, or what the quality is. That way, you will fit right in!
  17. Greets again, all! Another off-the-wall-request. I am looking for the sword-arms from the plastic wraithlord kits that you might have and not be using! Specifically - the part is one piece and has the sword and wraithlord right-hand attached to it. as so: I've looked on other sites, bits sites, even ebay, and no dice. I need two, in fact. I'd even take them if they were painted. Or if you have some trashy/junk/scrap wraithlords about that you don't want, if they're cheap enough, I'd consider buying the entire piece. I am also in need of a single Fire Prism Cannon 'Crystal'. Any version of it should do. It's the 'crystal barrel' part. I have a tank, but during my move it apparently broke off and I have not been able to find it. It looks something like this: Or, the long, modern 'skinny' one that is currently used on the current version. I'd be willing to buy either one. Please PM me to discuss, if you have either of these available. :) Thanks for looking! -Tim
  18. "Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind." Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind." What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind." -JH
  19. It kinda has elements of that, as well as 'Castaway'. The wife and I will be see it. A nice cast, from the looks of it, and I generally enjoy Ridley Scott movies.
  20. For me, I 'cleaned the slate' back in the mid 90's when I quit going to tournaments. I just got fed-up with the cheese. It's hard to blame folks for bringing out the min/max lists when there are often prizes involved. Everyone wants to do their best, and to do that, they want every advantage. Find a good group of friends to play with who won't be searching for a way to pile-drive you every game. Don't be anal about the rules to the point that a 2 hour game turns into a 6 hour game. Forgive a quarter-inch miscalculation. Let people re-roll cocked-dice. Give your opponent the benefit of the doubt, and usually they'll do the same for you. When making your lists, take stuff you wouldn't normally take - just because. Work with friends to create some -story driven- or 'narrative' scenario games, instead of 'just grab 2k points of whatever'. Don't fill every day with gaming or even gaming-related stuff. Spend time with friends/family doing non-gaming-related stuff. Spend time on your own relaxing. Try focusing on playing with people you really enjoy playing with. That might sound snobbish - and maybe it is. But why subject yourself to a 2-4 hour block of time you know or heavily suspect you won't enjoy? If you feel adventurous one day, try a pick-up game. If it goes well - you just might have made a new friend and met a new regular gaming partner. If it goes bad - then you know better, and can take a few weeks off from looking for another pick-up game. And while playing, just remember that the guy or gal across the table from you wants to have fun, too. If you have an obviously over-the-top list, why go for the table? Giving the the chance for the other guy to have a few moments of enthusiasm, triumph, and moments in the sun can make all the difference between having a good experience and a bad one - win or lose. And don't we all enjoy a close game more than we enjoy a blowout anyway? Just random thoughts that I've come to terms with myself over the years, but as always, ymmv.
  21. Absolutely loved xcom... Especially the music. :)
