  1. Well, there’s your Pro-MSU option... Send in a first wave of suicidal Repentia, backed by a second wave of MSU Battle Sisters in Immolators and Repressors.
  2. World of Warcraft. Also this.
  3. I like the idea of paying CP for Detachments, much more so than the variable CP awards of the core Detachments (which just seem to encourage everyone to bring a Guard mob) or the points cost of AOS’s Battalions.
  4. I haven’t played it, but based on all the reviews I’ve seen for Fallout 76, the biggest problem that game has is not its many technical glitches, weak narrative, and repetitive quests... It’s that Bethesda promised that it was not going to be a typical MMORPG. In fact, they promised it was going to be a complete reinvention of the entire format. But it turned out just to be a typical, median-level example of the genre. I like a basic McDonald’s cheeseburger, you like basic McDonald’s cheeseburger, everyone likes it... But I don’t like ordering a filet mignon, paying for a filet mignon, and listening to the waiter wax poetical about how my filet mignon was made with Japanese wagyū from a calf hand-raised by virgin Shinto Priestesses, fed nothing but pure rainwater and the most luxurious of grasses. ”Over promise, under deliver” is the fastest way for a company that has a positive fan base to destroy itself.
  5. Man, Indomitus Crusaders looks like a lot of fun. There’s a lot of salt being thrown at it over on Reddit and other forums about giving mêlée buffs to a shooting army (which is what “Veteran Intercessors” does), but I don’t really care about that. It looks fun to play.
  6. There was a Age of Sigmar Skirmish released a while back. To be frank, it absolutely sucked... It played more like a half-baked minigame idea from a White Dwarf article rather than a proper game. Given that AoS actually scales very well from low points levels up to large game sizes (seriously, you can play a very enjoyable game with just a Start Collecting box per player), there isn't much need for a "skirmish" level of the game as an introductory product, what AoS really needed was a campaign-based, more detailed game, akin to Mordhiem or Frostgrave... What we got was just regular AoS with a much more limited selection of models, fewer factions, and unnecessarily convoluted changes to the AoS points system. Frankly, unless they have made a major overhaul of the system, if you want to play a skirmish game with your AoS minis, I'd just grab a copy of Frostgrave.
  7. Obviously, but I’m not comparing the FNP in a vacuum. I’m comparing the units that the rule is attached to.
  8. There’s a significant difference between an Eldar Guardian’s T3 / Ld 7 / Sv 5+ 6+++ and a Battle Sister’s T3 / Ld 8 / Sv 3+ 6++ 6+++.
  9. Ulthwé isn’t clad head-to-high-heels in 3+ Power Armor. I’m not saying this is a sub-faction trait that’s going to redefine the meta and sweep every tourney, but I don’t think it’s going to be useless either. Hard to say definitively without knowing the full context.
  10. I dunno, I think 6+ FNP on Battle Sisters has the potential to make for some seriously tough units, although that’s going to depend a lot on how much they cost per model.
  11. Technically, there hasn’t been a Codex: Ultramarines since early in Second Edition (1995). Even in that book, the Grey Knights, Imperial Fists, and Legion of the Damned get several pages all to themselves. The color section also devoted a couple pages to line-ups of other “generic” chapters. The Ultramarines do get a lot more “focus” than the other generic Chapters, but not significantly more so than the other big name Chapters: Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, and Dark Angels have been the “Big Four” since Second Edition. All of them are roughly equal when it comes to unique units, special characters, and other special rules... Maybe not at any given moment in time, but over the lifetime of any given edition the four tend to get about the same amount of love. If anything, I’d say the Dark Angels are probably the one of the Big Four that gets the least “love” in these terms... But it’s still marginal. Black Templars, Imperial Fists, Salamanders, and Crimson Fists seem to get the most love of the “other” Chapters.
  12. I realize the reason is probably a mechanical one, keeping the game balanced and what not... But its kind of hilarious that a Redemptor Dreadnought cannot be made into an Indomitus Crusaders veteran. ”Brother-Lieutenant. I am awakened once more, I shall assist your efforts to cleanse this— Hey, why do you guys all have those spiffy new white helmets?” ”We’re Veterans now. Veterans get to wear spiffy helmets. There was a memo.” ”I too wish to be a Veteran. I fought alongside you in the cleansing of Calufrax, the raid on Eudamas, the pacification of Gallifr—“ ”We’re sorry. Only people who didn’t get their heads chopped off by a Xenos get to be Veterans. No head, no helmet. No helmet, not a Veteran.” ”I am sad now.”
  13. He’s a pretty cool wizard.
  14. Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil miniseries by Jeff Smith was excellent. Shazam! The Power of Hope by Paul Dini and Alex Ross is outstanding. I’m also very fond of the JSA comic that ran from 1999-2006, with many of its plot threads carrying on into Justice Society of America (Vol. 3) which “replaced” it and continued on through 2011. Captain Marvel and Black Adam are prominent parts of the ensemble, albeit moving in and out of focus (it’s a team book). But the Billy/Courtney romance is one of the best teenagers in love stories in comics and the Adam/Isis/Osiris plot is some of the best character development that Black Adam has ever gotten. It’s also just a damn fun comic book overall, a real unsung gem.
  15. According to their diary entries, they seem rather annoyed by The Authorities.
  16. Just finished re-re-re-reading Dune. Every time I read it, I feel like I pick up some nuance, some theme, or some connection that I didn’t notice the previous time.

If a markerlight delivery system is your goal, a Cadre Fireblade in a Drone Port is probably the most efficient: five markerlight shots all hitting on a 2+... and you can toss 5-9 Pathfinders into it with him.
  18. Yes and no; Carol Danvers was introduced quite early in the run of Marvel Comics’ first Captain Marvel character (Marvel Super-Heroes [Vol. 1] #13) in 1968 and gained superpowers of her own in 1977... But she used the name Ms. Marvel. Monica Rambeau didn’t debut until 1982, she used the Captian Marvel name for a long while but was never as prominent as Ms. Marvel. Marvel Comics mostly created all the characters by this name in order to give them a comic book titled Captain Marvel as a way to prevent DC Comics from using the title for their Captain Marvel... Which is why everyone thought Billy Batson was named Shazam.
  19. Coming in a month too late for our campaign, GW has released a Kill Team Campaign Roster app. Looks pretty good.
  20. That wasn’t even the worst thing that happened to Carol over the years. I actually used to own a copy of Avengers (Vol. 1) #200... Got it as part of one of those “25 comics for $5.00” blind bags that comic shops used to make up to clear out old back issues. Even as a third-grader, I knew that this was a pretty @&$#’ed up plot. Wonder if they’ll use it in the MCU.
  21. Oh you sweet summer child...

I’m pretty sure it’s a stupid rule, regardless.
