Imperial Knights reproduced, Big Bertha cometh

Recommended Posts

Big knight is clocking in at around 585.

Close combat knight has 5 attacks, 6 with one of the houses. So 18 attacks at 8/-2/d3 for 365ish.

As stated before base points for knights is 280-85.

You don't get CP for a detachment if you dont have at least 2-3 of the normal or big knights in the detachment.

GW prices on the UK site:

*  re-release of the "Renegade" box set (with new terrain) is $ 160ish

*  Knight Castellan is $ 133ish

*  2 Armiger Helverins are $ 60ish

*  Knight Valiant is $ 133ish... so the new models are two different kits for sure

*  the new terrain piece sold separately is $ 33ish

Yeah, up there now.

Spendy.

Both new knights are different, separate kits. And looks like the Armiger kit is a different variant that the chainsaw ones that came in that box set. So buy-in on the new models is a minimum of $415 to get your two new knights and a 2-pack of the new armiger kits. Oh, and you need to buy a new codex, so $455...

that's too bad about the prices... when I saw the UK website listings I just used what the sterling pound is and converted

surprised that they're THAT much more expensive

Price conversion has never been a great way to estimate GW prices. :)

We’re sure you’ve pre-ordered the new Codex: Imperial Knights by now, and maybe even a towering Knight Castellan or Knight Valiant. So you’ll be delighted to learn that coming your way next week are Armiger Warglaives to accompany them into battle. These smaller Knights were introduced to Warhammer 40,000 in the Forgebane boxed set earlier this year, and they’ll soon be available to buy separately.

The Armiger Warglaive is the mount of the lower order of nobles in Imperial Knight houses – the distant cousins, mad uncles (you know what families are like) and promising warriors of common birth. Smaller in stature than other Knights, the Armiger Warglaive is fast and responsive, and still more than capable of butchering entire squads with its reaper chain-cleaver, or devastating armoured vehicles with blasts from the thermal spear.

GWPreview-June3-Armiger1cw.jpg

In-game, you’ll find that the Armiger Warglaive has received a bit of an upgrade from its appearance in Forgebane. The reaper chain-cleaver now has two modes of attack. It can make a double Strength and high Damage attacks for taking on larger foes, or a sweeping assault that doubles the number of attacks but hits at the Armiger Warglaive’s regular Strength – which is still more than enough to make a mess of most Infantry units.

GWPreview-June3-Cleaver2td.jpg

This new sweep attack pairs well with some of the Household Traditions in the new codex – getting not one, but two extra attacks with House Griffith’s Glory of the Charge is an obvious candidate, as is House Cadmus, whose Hunters of the Foe ability gives re-rolls of 1s to wound when cutting through units with (comparatively) low Wounds characteristics.

As you might expect, there are a few Stratagems in the codex that are designed to help you get the most from your Armiger Warglaives as well. How about deploying a unit of them behind enemy lines with Sally Forth!, or using Pack Hunters to re-roll charges with multiple Armiger Warglaives. Our favourite might be the simplest – use the Armiger Helverin’s immense speed to move and advance towards the enemy, then surprise them with a charge using Full Tilt, and make the most of that reaper chain-cleaver.

GWPreview-June3-FullTilt3vu.jpg

You can take up to three Armiger Warglaives in your force as a single Lord of War choice – and you get two in the Armiger Warglaives set to get you started. It’ll be on pre-order next week and in stores a week later. If you can’t wait that long, Forgebane is still available to buy and contains two Armiger Warglaives alongside an Adeptus Mechanicus army, some Necrons for target practice, and the Warhammer 40,000 rules.

You’ll have to wait a wee bit longer for the last new release to go alongside the new codex. The valiant Freeblade Sir Hekhtur, and his Knight Preceptor steed Canis Rex, will be available later in the year as part of a dual kit that also builds the Knight Preceptor (not to mention every other variant of Questoris-class Knight).

We showed off Sir Hekhtur last week (see here for more details about him), and you’ll get his full rules in the codex. We’ll be letting you know when he’s approaching (not that you’ll miss him in his ground-shaking Knight), so keep a close eye on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page for more news.

The Top 5 Stratagems in Codex: Imperial Knights

GWPreview-May27-ImperialKnightsHeader.jp

Codex: Imperial Knights is absolutely packed with Stratagems, each offering a range of new tactical options for your army. We’re sure you’ll have fun finding out how to use them all when you get your copy, but to help get you started, here are three you won’t want to miss…

Sometimes, it’s best to take down opponents at range – and sometimes, it’s best to close your eyes, seize your opponents, clench your fist around them and beat them down. This Stratagem is going to grind anything short of a Hive Tyrant into paste!

40kKnightsStrat-June4-IonAegis2g.jpg

First previewed in our Dominus-class Knight rundown, this Stratagem is great for allied Imperial Knights, letting you use a Knight Castellan or Knight Valiant to shield the troops at its feet.

40kKnightsStrat-June4-Subheader3h.jpg

40kKnightsStrat-June4-NobleSacrifice3qh.

An exploding Knight is a thing to behold on the battlefield – there’s little better than the look on your opponent’s face when they finally remove one, only to lose a sizeable chunk of their army when they do so. This Stratagem lets you increase the odds to 50% (or more, for the Dominus class), and is well worth holding a couple of Command Points in reserve for.

40kKnightsStrat-June4-LastStand4k.jpg

An alternative to Noble Sacrifice, Valiant Last Stand is great for any Knights with powerful weaponry they don’t want to miss the chance to use. It’s particularly deadly with the Knight Valiant’s conflagration cannon – having reduced Ballistic Skill when you’re on your last wound doesn’t matter when you’re firing a massive flamer that hits automatically!

Want to make maximum use of the new Warlord Traits in the new codex? This Stratagem lets you nominate up to two additional Knights in your force as Characters and grants them each a Warlord Trait.

Want to use these Stratagems in your games? Make sure to grab Codex: Imperial Knights, available to pre-order online right now and in a store near you this weekend.
