I just messaged @Weav regarding the question of photo upload sizes, hopefully we'll get an answer if the two are related.

Okay had another game with the Sisters o Battle.  Short synopsis here:

This was a rematch.  He brought Mortarian, Typhus and the boys.  The game was far more competitive than the last one we fought.

He brought the heat and killed sisters aplenty.  His ability to shirk off damage allowed him to plow into me with his Helbrute, Mortarian and Typhus, but it was far less devastating than it could have been thanks to a Canonss..

The Sisters pummeled the Poxwalkers before that, and his Plague Marines on the left as we pretty much kept moving left to get distance form his other stuff. Helbrute got to mix it up and did some work with that Lascannon and his fists.  The Seraphim were used to lock up his Plaguecrawler and take an objective.  I ONCE AGAIN forgot to deploy one of my Seraphim.  Geez.

HIlites werre that I locked down his Psyker phase hard with the Brazier in both rounds 1 and 2.  Big time..  Because of it , Mortarian was slightly less annoying to have to kill, but he's never gone down easy.  The Psyker phases were pretty clutch for my Canoness.

Another fun thing happened in the last round when the Exorcists fired 18 shots in one round (and still managed to only kill tweo Terminators)!  That was unheard of.

Once Mortarian was down, Typhus was isolated and facing my whole army.  He epically took it from them, but Celestine dashed in to finish the job, barely.

Unlike our previous match, where he ended with just a damaged Plagueburst Crawler on the board, he actually did still have a Plague Marine unit, the Plague Crawler, and a terminator left.

Final score was 29-11, Sisters of Battle Victory.

ITC Mission 4.  I deployed first and had choice of going first.  Map 1 (pointy Hammer and Anvil)

Enemy was two large wulfen units and a biker unit with maxed out stormshields.  Faithful 32.  Castellan.  Wolf Lord with a Jumppack and the Special Edition Marine (first time ever fighting him).

1

He seized.  As you can imagine, that wasn't good.  He managed to shoot me up but range kept his Castellan from completing his kill on an Exorcist.  But ti did allow him a turn one charge with Wulfen.  Faithful 32 ran towards objectives.  Celestine and the Canoness joined in the fight as heroic interventions but:  Storm Shields.

On my turn Celestine and the Canoness continued to battle the Wulfen while the rest of my army retreated backwards and fired what few shots they could.  Ultimately they killed a unit of IG on an objective but he still held more and my Canoness went down in melee, so a wash on that end.  Still, not good for us.

2

The Castellan blew up my central Exorcist and chipped away at Pink and Green Squad, killing numerous, while the Wulfen closed in on my left flank where IG were babysitting an objective.  The Wulfen engaged with Celestine bashed at her but couldn’t kill her.  The Wolf Warlord jumped up and joined in the fight on her as well.  The slow solo marine just kept trudging along upfrield.  The bikers unloaded on Red squad on my left, killing several.

On my turn Celestine flew the coop and alighted where the Wulfen and IG were on the left flank to slow them down.  I hoped to draw the Castellans fire onto her and we even agreed that she was the closest target.  His plan would then be to shoot her, kill her, have her resurrect and then charge her dead withWulfen.  Celestine leaving the combat allowed a bolter storm to kill all but two of the Wulfen and wound the warlord who had joined them.  The Arco-Flagellents then jumped forward and charged.  The Pink Squad leaped forward and charged through all of it and into the bikers to stop their shooting.  While the damage done here was REALLY disappointing and unlikely (he really rolled like a champ the entire game, and I really didn’t), the entire right flank was pretty well protected against shooting for the round.  A Seraphim squad alighted to the left and tried to burninate the IG on the objective but did almost no damage.

3

Somehow he forgot his plan and didn’t shoot Celestine, instead firing the Castellan on the Exorcist (killed it), the Seraphim (killed them) and shooting some at Red Squad leaving only 2 Meltagun ladies left in Red Squad.  This left his Wulfen on the left to deal with me and after the IG there shot her, the Wulfen piled on her and devoured her.  She rose again!  The Bikes and wulfen to my left decided to continue battering Pink Squad and the Warlord wiped two Arco-Flagellents, leaving 2.

On my turn we pulled out of combat with the Bikes and the Wulfen and the Warlord.  Bolter fire ensured and the remainder of Red Squad avenged themselves, killing the Warlord while the Wulfen were smashed with Bolter fire but still one stood.  Arco-flagellents took cover in a nearby ruin.  His insane saves continued.  You’d have thought that 3+ saves were the new black honestly.

Two Seraphim squads alighted near the enemy deployment zone in a ruin and out of sight of the Castellan they were dangerously near.

St. Celestine flew over to help with the ongoing combat to my left but ended up with nothing really to do as the targets she could reach had been mostly removed and it was just a charge too far.

4

The last Wulfen made a dash for Purple squad at the rear, my Engineers.  The wulfen o nthe right surged forward and killed the two Dialogus in the open.  Celestine was left wideopen by the failed charge and obliterated by the Castellan along with the Exorcist on my left taking wounds.  It was on its own over there with an Arco Flagellent now.  The Bikers opened fire and Red Squad disappeared.  Green Squad joined them.  Yellow Squad got the rest of the Castellans attention as well, bringing it low but not gone.

What was left of my army opened fired on the Wulfen coming at them on the right side (now central) and did considerable damage.  Not enough, but it stung him.

Both Seraphim leaped over to take shots on the IG on the rightmost objective and when that failed to kill them (again…the dice were just…)  they charged and assaulted the IG.  Only 4 survived with their Company Commander and they killed a Seraphim each.  Of course.

5

The lone wulfen remaining from the tattered squad ran to get ready for a charge on Purple Squad (again my engineers back there) and the other larger squad slammed into Uriah Jacobus and the Mistress of Repentance my Warlord.  They held their own but took wounds.  The bikers again rained shots on the Teal Squad that had shot up their wulfen buddies.  The Castellan finished the remains of the yellow squad, crippled the Exorcist which somehow still lived, and crippled Teal Squad.  The Seraphim continued their battle against the IG on the right objective and killed all but one IG, and wounded the Company commander.  We lost two Seraphim for our efforts. Lord have mercy…but he didn’t.

On my turn, the Seraphim finally waxed the last IG, giving them control of the objective.  The Company Commander remained but now it was just a matter of time.

The butchered Teal Squad took one more swipe at the last Wulfen but couldn’t kill it.  The Exorcist moved and tried to charge the IG on the left most objective in a comical effort to do something cool before the end.  Purple squad did nothing and were good little Engineers, scoring me a point.  The Arco Flagellent…I just forgot he was there or he could have charged with the Exorcist to glory.

6

The Castellan bellowed in mild annoyance and then deleted everything but the Seraphim, and the Bikers deleted what it didn’t.  Remaining were the Arco-Flagellent in hiding, the Serpahim on the right side battling it out with the Company Commander, and a couple members of Teal Squad standing defiantly.

The Seraphim broke off to linebreak while the other squad stayed to fight for Last Blood…but the dice again were not in our favor and the Company Commander lived.

Final score;  34-18 Forces of the Imperium.

The list is 14-2.  Still pretty good.  I need to think about this Castellan encounter a little.  The Seraphim are there with flamer pistols but they aren't producing a lot of results.  Admittedly poor rolling contributes to that, but it is still a concern and wounding on 5's makes them iffy.  They are primarily in the list for dealing with Gretchen chaff to open up a way to get at Lootaz or to take objectives, or linebreak etc...  But I may have to just give them a bigger stinger and let them carry the Meltapistols again.  Doing that requires a much more circumspect approach to deep striking them but it may help augment the Exorcists efforts.

In this game I didn't really shoot at the Castellan.  But degrading it would have helped.  Unfortunately the seizing and then turn one charge did tie my hands a bit.  using Celestine to slow the advance of his Wulfen was important and it worked, which allowed me more fire to pour into his impossible to kill stuff.  But at the end of the day I think I would consdier just focusing down the Castellan to degrade it.  Exorcists are very unreliable and 4+ invul is what it had so it was debatable whether I could have one enough in time but I suppose it wouldn't have hurt.  Multiwound 3+ invuls on Wulfen in your face ooooor...  T8 4+ invul downfield?  No great choices.

I took Sisters of Battle to a tournament in Renton.  Had to go about an hour to get there but that's cool.  No biggee.

I went second in every match.  I voluntarily went second in game 3.

Celestine stood with her army all of the time it took the enemy to shoot me round 1, and then she was off and running.  No castling with her, I stuck her out there to scope me points.

In round one it was Adeptus Mechanicus.  Quite the striking army.  It had a Knight of course and the big unit of strider walker things, and Duncrawlers, all with some form of  accuracy coolness.  Damn DuneCrawlers are quite tough.  He deployed first and went first.  I counter deployed very well I thought, and once the hugs were in full effect, and his shooting shut down we moved in ofr the kill.  I never killed that Knight but I did wipe out most of the army and had board control.  36-11 victory.

IN the second round I played against Astra Militarum with the buffed out Bullgryns, the usual Mortar spam, Vigilus Artillery Detachment, Straken, Priest and so on.  It was unusual in that it didn't have a Knight in it, but did have a really mean pair of command tanks, one of which plagued me for a good part of the game with its punishers wailing away on me.  His smash Captains were nigh unkillable.  I tried but they just tied me up something fierce.  However, between the Seraphim dropping in and really wreaking havoc in the backfield, and the absolutely frightening Arco-Flagellents who powned everything they touched, I have to say, it was a pretty fun game that felt grindy at first, but we prevailed 36-17 or something close to that.

Third game was against Space Wolves.  The Wulfen and Thundercavalry were real.  Herald Deathwolf and the Wulfen appeared on my right, the other wulfen to my left and the Thundercavalry up the middle with Bloodclaws in hot pursuit.  There was no escaping the encirclement forever, but I did a LOT of advancing away from the Wulfen on one side while trying to beat them up on the other and boy do those guys take it like champs.

The Blood Claws were equally effective, smashing into me where they could and rending me to pieces with their highly accurate and numerous attacks.  Savage if not sturdy, but they held their own quite well.  The Faithful 32 rained mortars on my head every round and had some truly fantastic efforts.  She hit me with like 24 Mortars in one round once. Yeesh.

Tough battle.  I took it 24-21.

Sisters of Battle took the tournament, 1st place.

Another fight.  This time the Drago's Grey Knghts with a Super heavy Shadowsword to join them.  Terminators a couple of Strike Squads a couple of Venerable Dreadnoughts who spelled trouble for my Exorcists.  Compact and powerful.

My Sisters lost first turn.

It was the Pointy Hammer and Anvil deployment.  I placed Celestine and her Sacred Wings of Sisters of Battle behind the central bastion as much as possible and used my Arco-Flagellents, Red Squad to the left and and Purple Squad to the right to cut off the rear from Deep Strikes.

The Grey Kights stayed back except for one Strike Squad who was obviously placed to take the central objective and possibly hold more turn 1.

1

The Venerables and the Shadowsword fired down on the Exorcists, killing one and damaging another.  First Blood.  The Strike Squads took objectives.  one of them advanced to the center to take the Central one, while the other cowered in a Ruin to the rear.

Celestine jumped forward as did the Pink Squad and they collectively slaughtered the Strike Squad down to 1 member, who could not hold the objective against the Pink Squad who had more within 3".  However that meant that I had killed nothing.  My remaining Exorcists put 12 wounds on the Super Heavy, and considering they only hit twice, that was a miracle on its own.

3-1 GK advantage on Primaries

2

The Exorcists were both brought to within an inch of their lives by the Super heavy and Venerable Dreadnoughts.

Drago Teelported his dread coterie in, with his Ancient and his Apothecarie, plus 9 Terminators, to try and dominate the Pink Squad and Celestine.  Their Storm Bolters roared and killed many behind Pink Squad but they didn't want to shoot the Pink Ladies themselves for fear of failing the charge.  Then they charged.  Only the Ancient and Apothecary made it into the Pink Squad and Celestine.  Celestine made her Act of Faith to fight twice but failed and so after the Ancient had done his grisly work, Celestine Counter-Attacked and killed the Apothecary, and then the Ancient was finished with Overwatch fire and the members of Pink Squad killed the last member of the Strike Squad and dominated the center objective.

Celestine was free to act and so she used the Act of Faith to gain 3" on her move.  She shot past Drago and his men to attack the Strike Squad that was behind them in the ruins,  hoping to take the objective from them, slashing and burning them in her fury.  She attacked twice but one survived.

Castellan Crowe descended to the ground on the right

Then it was our turn.  the Arco Flagellents surged forth from their hiding place while Purple Squad took their place to do their duty as Engineers.  The Arco-Flagellents propelled themselves towards Castellan Crowe with Uriah Jacobus bellowing rhetoric right along with them.

ALL of the Sisters of Battle massed and surged forward from the back to the front, Advancing towards the enemy at absolutely maximum speed, only able to fire meltas but the Warlord Mistress of Repentence became a Vessel for the Emperor making it easier for them to hit despite the advancing penalty!  Many Terminators died in the ensuing moment.  The Pink squad had advanced up and around the Terminators forming an envelope they could not easily escape!  This kept the Terminators from getting past the Pink Squad, buty every member of Pink Squad understood that they were sacrificing their own lives inevitably by doing so.  They did their duty nonetheless.

The Exorcists continued to pound on the Super heavy IG tank, but as they were quite damaged it was a miracle that they could hit anything.  Nonetheless their potent shots did indeed do damage to the Super Heavy once more, draining its accuracy and vitality with punishing blows.

The Seraphim alighted Quietly between the Dreadnoughts, and near enough to get ot the Super heavy whose hull was now badly damaged.  They waited ever so patiently for their moment, exposed bur ready for the Cause of Righteousness to use them.

5-4 Sisters advantage on Primaries

3

Castellan Crowe came forward and failed his charge.

Drago gave the order and the Terminators blistered the Pink Squad, crushing them utterly.  Drago himself fell back to take Celestines life, and one of the Venerable Dreadnoughts joined Drago in the attack.  His blows nearly hammered her to death before she could kill the last member of the Strike Squad holding the objective.  The Dreadnought finished the job.  Her fallen body lay serene, a glow about it...  And she sprang to life as the Emperors will was made manifest!!!  The last member of the Strike Squad looked on in horrible awe, while Drago smirked.  He'd killed many like her before and he'd kill her too.  The warp was filled with "inevitables" like her and he was well aquainted.

The Shadowsword was startled into action and fired its Heavy bolter fusillade at the Seraphim, while its big cannons took out one of the Exorcists...which exploded and kill the other one!  A masterful stroke.  The Warlord was nearly killed in the explosion.  The second Venerable turned around and assulted the front Seraphim and killed them outright with its mighty fists alone.

The Arco-Flagellents ate Castellan Crowe.  Literally.

The Seraphim split up and stretched out and took out their Fusion pistols.  They took careful aim and blew both the venerable Dreadnought and the Super Heavy top kingdom come.  The Sisters of Battle surged forth again, all of them advancing and then laying down terrifying firepower down on the Terminators.  One by one they fell until Pink Squad was completely avenged.  In all there were 15 meltaguns all empowered by the Vessel of the Emperor once more even after advancing.  Like dominoes they went down, Yellow Squad also firing its bolters into them.

Celestine was risen indeed and she cut the throat of Drago and his Strike Squad.  The Venerable had one wound left and had vengeance on its mind.

8-7 Sisters of Battle Advantage on Primaries

4

The Venerable Dreadnought took Celestine and tore her in half.  This time there was no glow.  This time it was over.

With nothing left on the field but the Venerable Dreadnought, the Seraphim flew to the side of their fallen Saint and then into the unfeeling metal visage of the Venerable for whom death was nothing but a mercy.  They gave him that mercy.

The Grey Knights were tabled.  Adepta Sororitas victory.  Final score:  33-18

Overall:  20-2 with the list.

Hammer and Anvil, ITC Mission 2

I played Rob Smith’s DeathWatch.  Heavy duty concentrations of StormBolter fire from Storm Shielded Veterans as you would expect.  An Imperial Knight with Gatling, Battle Cannon and Ironstorm launcher.characters for buffing and then the Faithful 32 except that he had a Battle Cannon Commander instead of just a company commander (quite an upgrade!) and the X-Factor was the Corvus Blackstar.

I deployed my army first, then he did.  I then decided to make him go first.

1

He had assumed I would go first and so he had to spend some time repositioning round 1.  His Commander tank couldn’t get all its shots in because of it.  The Knight had to romp forward to get into range, and so the first round was relatively light.  That being said, the Exorcists did get showered with attention.  Red Squad was quite decimated.  He used his Knight to snipe the Purple Squad of Engineers in the way back and killed one of those as well.  The Corvus opted to stay back and away from the wall of Meltaguns my Sisters had and went to hover mode, helping the Knight try to kill the furthest Exorcist.

The Sisters swung right and did not approach the Stormbolter gunline, using the shadow of the central LOS blocker for cover while my other Engineers, the Arco-Flagellents snuck in behind the Central builing to cap the center objective.  The Exorcists tried to slay the Knight and did a disappointing 7 wounds in total.  We had agonized over whether to shoot the Corvus Blackstar but we didn’t.  Perhaps we should have.  Celestine stayed back as did most of the force.

2

Round 2 saw him get a little more aggressive.  He pounded Red Squad to dust which was one of his Marked for Death objectives, and killed an Exorcist, wounding another in a similar fire pattern as before.  Only this time his Deathwatch moved up in order to stop me from being able to avoid him.  He began raining death on Green Squad and Pink Squad.  The Blackstar stayed back again, shifting over to the left to get shots in on the Exorcists, and it did.  Again the Knight sniped at Purple Squad in the way-back, killing another and trying to pry me off of it as well as killing Exorcists.  It finally got to unleash its gatling cannon on Teal Squad, but Teal Squad proved remarkably resilient.

The Sisters responded to the aggression by absolutely advancing their asses off upfield.  A huge surge of Sisters poured forward at maximum effort on the right side, while Pink and Yellow Squad ran up the left side.  The Arco Flagellents stayed relatively central to continue taking the central objective.  The Seraphim jumped in on the left side and in some ruins to obscure themselves.  The Exorcists again tried to end the Knight…and again got very disappointing results.  It was another 7 wounds dealt by th remaining tanks (one which had taken 5 wounds).

3

The Deathwatch and Imperial Guard swept left to their left (my right) to avoid the Seraphim, and gain more shots on the larger force threatening them.  Pink Squad was whittled as was Green Squad and they figured Celestine and the gang featured a lot scarier threat.  One Imperial Guardsquad wasleft to ancher (read:  die) on their right flank and hopefully slow the role of the Seraphim.  The fusillade was pretty strong and Green Squad was badly battered by it as was another Exorcist tank which exploded.  Space was getting to be at a premium in the DeathWatch deployment zone and still be within 6” of their buffing Commander so they were very much clumped near the Corvus Blackstar at that point.

The Teal Squad which had rushed forward last turn was now speeding right towards it, advancing.  Thanks to the Act of Faith giving them +1 to hit, the Meltaguns hit normally and did serious damage.  The job was finished by another gun and it exploded epically.  The way they were clustered ended up costing them 15 deathwatch in the explosion. Given that I had mostly advanced again, and not shot a lot, this was quite a coup.  The Exorcist in the back actually managed to kill the Command Tank!  Suddenly, a lot less to fight with.  11 Guardsman from two different units got caught in the blast as well.  The Seraphim did hunt down and kill most of the Guard that were left to guard the rear objective.

Celestine finally engaged, killing a unit remnant and now being the closest target but didn’t quite kill them all.  A few did desert their post though.

4

The Deathwatch counter attacked moving forward, shooting Teal Squad into almost nothing, and then charging Celestine and taking her down in combat.  She did get up though.  The Knight vacillated on joining in but did dohis work on Teal Squad and of course Purple squad again.  The mission now was straightforward enough:  shoot the sisters and charge the inferior Sisters until they go away.  It seemed to be working, although the Seraphim did indeed butcher the remainder of the spirited guardsman and got the bonus point for owning the enemy objective and the central one.

When the Seraphim could fly again, two units of them blasted the crap out of the squad that had fled left earlier with Fiery absolution offered.  Pink and Yellow Squads poured fire on them as well, finally close enough to do much more than move.   Things began to disappear.

Celestine was risen and threw herself at the enemy slaying their Warlord.  The Canoness helped in the effort but ultimately was badly wounded for her efforts.

At this stage with the Knight, some few IG left and a smattering of veterans, it was over.  He conceded.  His only kills were Red Squad and two Exorcist

Final Score 28-14 I think Sisters of Battle.

Imperial Fists and the Faithful 32 Vs. Sisters of Battle.

ITC Mission 2.  Hammer and Anvil.  Sisters Deploy First, and get choice of going first or second.

Sisters deployed in standard formation, with Celestine just slightly behind the go line, and her Faithful aligned as wings to either side of her, while her coterie of command Dialogi, Canoness, and the Warlord Mistress stood faithfully around her.  Uriah and his miscreant Arco-Flagellents tool the left flank in a ruin.  Purple Squad stood to the rear as Engineers on an objective.

The Imperial Fists aligned themselves mostly around their Warlord who effectively was a Chapter Master and Lieutenant combined.  Two of his Primaris units were Veterans.  Hellblasters to my left, and his Tactical Marines to the far right with the Scouts in more ruins with lines of sight to the Exorcist tanks who were spread out to cut off Deep Strikers.  The Catachans stood behind them blocking off the Seraphim deep strikes.  To the far left was his Lascannon Predator.

The Imperial Fists seized initiative.

1

The Lascannon Predator put 5 wounds on the central Exorcist while the Missile Launching Marines on the right put 4 on another.  The ‘Fists had chosen to Mark the Sisters Squads for Death and used some crazy Stratagem shenanigans to roll a blizzard of shots into the Yellow Squad to my left.  His combined fire killed all but the Simulacrum Imperialis in the unit.  It maintained its faith in the Emperor however.  So no units killed.

The Sisters of Battle were startled awake by the immensity of the firepower they just witnessed and swung Pink and Teal squads to the right as they could, at full tilt, and so almost nothing fired hoping to take cover in the shadow of the central LOS blocker.  Red Squad streaked up the right flank trying to stay in the shadow of a building as much as possible but to little avail.  Green Squad streaked up the left flank and attempted to take SOME cover from a building but couldn’t get all their ladies there.  Celestine knew no other way than to lead but from the front and so she did, leaping over the central building and alighting onto the central objective at the head ofher host.    Uriah Jacobus advanced with his Arco-Flagellents to my left and into another building.

The Exorcists were about as dismal as could be,firing 1 shot apiece and totaling 2 wounds for the round on the Lascannon Predator.  Not good.  No kills, and now if the Imperial Fists moved forward they would be able to hit awfully hard.

The survivor of Yellow Squad shot out of sight and stood very quiet and still against a wall to conceal her from harm.

2

The Imperial Fists saw their opening and the Chapter Master ordered his men forward and to my right in order to get the firing lane they needed, so both Primaris units followed the order.  One killed Celestine outright, and the second fired on and whittled Teal Squad with the help of a third Tactical Squad standing sentinel in the middle, but failed the 10” charge to Celestine later.  The Imperial Guardsman came forward and allotted some Lasgun fire  into Red Squad on my right and their fire breathing Company Commander brought his fist up for the rest to follow him!  The two Tactical Squads again fired their Missiles at the Ecxorcists as did the Lascannon Predator taking one of the Exorcists down to just 2 wounds.  The Shield of its Faith was strong enough to resist some of the fusillade.

The Hellblasters shot the Green Squad which had failed to find enough cover and killed several on the left.  Despite the beating, Morale held and Celestine rose again!  She narrowed her eyes and pointed her blades at the Tacticals holding the center…

“CHARGE!” she yelled, and she did so.  “Give them Fiery Absolution” replied the Mistress, our Warlord, where she sat atop the central building, becoming a vessel of the Emperor Himself.  Pink Squad came in behind Celestine up the middle(and in fact their Faith brought them 3” farther than normal, so buoyed were they by their leader) along with Teal squad.  Collectively Teal Squad and Pink Squad annihilated the Primaris Marines that had tried to charge Celestine, although unfortunately not the ones they had marked for Death.  Red Squad moved up on the right and opened fire on the Imperial Guard, wiping them to a man  and killed couple of the missile toting Marines with their Meltaguns while at it.  The center and right were awash with blood.

On the left Green Squad came out of hiding and killed three of the Hellblasters and then they charged, expecting the Arco-Flagellents to follow enthusiastically.  But they seemed to have become confused and failed this simple task, leaving it up to the Uriah emboldened Sisters of Battle who did not do much more than hug the Hellblasters and force a couple of dents in their armor.  They lost 4 of their own just in the overwatch, but came out of the charge in reasonable shape.

Celestines Sword flamed out at the Tactical Marines and then charged the center, killing all but one of the Marines DESPITE fighting twice with Faithful Fervor, but she managed to lock him up and the IG commander who had so boldly and heroically entervened.  Celestine was impressed.

Purple Squad worked the radio in the backfield as Engineers are wont to do.

The Exorcists tanks tried quite unsuccessfully to roll above a 1 for their number of shots.  Again.  Not great.  One of them moved up along the left flank to cover the rear of the Arco Flagellents.

Three Seraphim squads alighted quietly behind the central tower…

3

The IG Company Commanders intervention was a ruse and as soon as Celestine thought she had him, he backed away in a “retrograde action”, along with the surviving Tactical Marine.  It was a trap!

The Chapter Master smirked and ordered his second unit of Primaris Veterans to slaughter her and they obediently did so, forming and moving to the right and then unleashing all the shenanigans.  The Hell Blasters backed away from the embrace of the Green Squad on the left and back towards their Lieutenant and their Psyker whose powers were largely quelled by the Sisters of Battle.  The Lascannon Predator fired at and killed the Exorcist in the center that had been damaged to the point of uselessness.  It was now slag.  The Marines to the right along with their scouts opened up on Red Squad, who proved remarkably resilient, perhaps emboldened and fortified by the actions of their beloved leader and her death.

Terminatos and Lysander himself dropped in behind one of the Exorcists that had moved forward and Lysander gashed its side open, esposing ammunition and pilots alike.  9 wounds in just one mighty go!

The Imperial Guard continued to move forward down the middle and laying down withering lasgun fire on Teal Squad and cutting it down to size.  Largely the round wasone of retreat however and a glimmer of hope was there to be had with the loss of Celestine and of the Exorcist.  Perhaps this was the moment, they thought…

The Mistress simmered with anger and had other plans.

She sent The Green Squad to cleanse the Hellblasters in melta fire, and then the Arco Flagellents into the Hell Blasters.  The Hellblasters were obliterated and then the Arco-Flagellents consolidated into the Lascannon Predator.  The Mistress sent the Pink and Teal Squad to kill the marked for death Primaris Marines, and they too were Obliterated with the Holy Trinity of Bolter, Meltagun and Flamer.  The Vessel of the Emperors shone like a beacon in that moment.  Red Squad killed their share to the right as well, overwhelming the Guardsmen and the Marines with bolter fire.  Not as crazy as the middle, but plenty potent enough to convince them that their time had come.

The Canoness who had been gliding behind Teal and Pink Squad made sure to secure the central objective once more as the Dialogus’s floated by her singing the Emperors praises to the enraged Sisterhood.

Lysanders charge would be his last act, as the Seraphim leaper to him and melted him with their fearsome Fusion Pistols.

An exorcist actually did something and killed…one…  Terminator.  It was quite exciting.

The heart of the enemy was cut out.

4

The Predator backed away and the Lieutenant and Librarian shot them and killed one.  The Chapter Master came from hisperch to come and charge into the Green Squad and the Arco Flagellents in one last desperate attempt to save the day but it was over.  The Tactical Marines took half hearted pot shots at the Red Squad and Exorcist once more, but that was about all there was left to do before surrendering their lives.  And surrender them all they did.

Sisters of Battle Victory.  34-10

This was a grudge match.

The imperial Fists had face ignominious defeat at the hands of the Adepta Sororitas and were hell bent on vengeance.  With a revamped Battalion, with changes and new plans to deploy them, Ian had no intentions of allowing his previous defeat to go unanswered.

The Adepta Sororitas were more than ready for the challenge.  The Imagifier rallied her forces around the ancient reliquary she bore, honored with the title of field commander and warlord for this battle as a reward for her many years of devout service.

ITC Mission 5, with Priority Objective as the Bonus.  Dawn of War Deployment this time and the Imperial Fists AGAIN got their choice of sides.

The Adepta Sororitas deployed Purple Squad to the right wing on an Objective behind a pile of piping, and the Missionary and his Arco-Flagellents further right still in a ruin.  In the center were Pink, Yellow, Green and Teal Squad clustered around the IMagifier and her coterie of Celestine and the Dalogus twins. to the left was Red Squad sitting on yet another objective.  Uncharacteristically, the Seraphim began on the board clustered in and around a building to center-left of their deployment zone.  The Exorcists were Centered and within easy reach of Celestine and the Imagifier.

The Imperial Fists inverted their previous deployment somewhat.  This time the Tactical Squads WITH Missile Launchers were to the left with line of sight to the Exorcists and camping his own objective along with some Imperial Guard.  His new additions to the force, a Terminator Librarian and Smashy McSmasherson were in Deep Strike.  At the center were his Plasma wielding Hellblasters with their customary character to augment them and behind that the Predatory-that-shall-not-die from our previous battle.   To the right of that were his Devastators partially obscured in ruins.  The Imperial Guard Company Commander with power fist was with them.  Two full squads of Primaris Marines stood in front of them, one a veteran Squad.  The other Veteran Squad stood on the objective in his zone to my right.  Scouts snuck forward close to my zone on the right and Imperial Guardsman mingled with the Imperial Fists.  Of note were the mortars to the far right rear who would rain death on me turn after turn.

The stage was set.

I had finished deploying first and got the +1 to go first and did indeed go first.

…And then he seized.  For the second time in a row.  Le sigh.

1

His Snipers fired on what they could see and did a couple of mortal wounds to yellow Squad.  The Primaris groups moved forward as well to allow their hellblasters to move and they collectively all shot into yellow squad, the same squad that had eluded death last game.  He shot them down to just 4 models with his potent unerring shooting.  The Mortars contributed really heavy fire to the cause.  The lascannon Prdator, his Devastator Squad and his Tactical Marines mostly fired on the Exorcists with their heavy weapons and the Emperor Protects!  Being as they were quite tough and very near Celestine and the Imagifier, the incoming fire presented little challenge to their primacy.

Imperial Guard scurried forward into a building for cover on the left.

Yellow Squads faith buoyed it from Failing after such horrendous losses, and Teal Squad was only slightly hurt by the Snipers, so did not need to check.

The doughty Sisters of Battle began their march.  Realizing that the firepower was extreme to the right of the LOS blocking central Power Generators, Pink and Green squad swung left, taking aim at the much more reasonable threat of the Tactical Marines while Red Squad stretched forward to stay on their objective but offer up some additional fire support.  As this was largely an advance, there wasn’t a lot of shooting on that left side of things.   Teal Squad retreated straight back, as they could not reach the safety of the Power Generators and fired on the oncoming Primaris wave.  Purple Squad did nothing but hide and Yellow Squads remnants joined them behind the Piping on the right.  A unit of Seraphim swept at maximum speed to the left to spread out and cut off any deep strike while the other two flattened themselves up against the Power Generators.  The Exorcists actually adjusted their positions to keep within the protective Aura of St. Celestine and the IMagifier after surviving such a fierce strike from the Predator and Devastators etc… and then the Imagifier activated the Vessel of the Emperor!  The Exorcists rolled terribly, killing 2 Devastators but one was a Cherub, Hunter Killer missiles and all.  Disappointing, and pretty much what happened against them last game.

The Missionary and the Arco-Flagellents rushed forward and consumed the Scouts and then consolidated into the Primaris Marines to halt their shooting.  A risky gambit.  ThePrimaris Marines struck back and then used THREE Command Points to attack again, killing the Arco-Flagellents and consolidating towards the missionary.  Expensive move but it worked.

2

The Primaris were forced to move forward again as their targets were few, but Teal Squad was sitting right in front of most of them.  So up came the Primaris Marines up the middle while the unit on the right swept downward towards where their scouts had died, to try and get an angle on the sisters behind the piles of piping and shot the Missionary absently in every orifice he had.  The Mortars attempted to bombard Purple Squad, killing one.

The Bolter fire and Hellblasters were oppressive and killed all but one of Teal Squad even after the Primaris Warriors had to move.  He spent Command Points to strengthen their bolter volume and it was impressive.  The Predator and Devastators continued to fire down on the Exorcists but it was the Tactical Marines who did the damage, rocking one for 5 damage and using their bolters on the oncoming Green Squad to the left, killing 4.

His Librarian and Smashy McSmasherson alighted to the ground and attempted charges on the Exorcist tank.  Smashy was literally shot in the face and died in the attempt, as he was asked politely to swallow an entire missile.  The Librarian was unable to complete the charge but did not, in fairness, swallow any.

The Adepta Sororitas response was predictably negative to all this.  The Canoness, Pink Squad and Celestine wiped the Imperial Guard out on the left who had scurried into the Power Generator building.  The wounded Green Squad and full  Pink Squad (Using the Holy Trinity of Bolter, Melta and Flamer) combined fire to kill all but one of the Tactical Squads on the left before that happened.  The Exorcists fell back again and fired down on the Primaris Marines who had killed the Missionary, killing 3.  Again, not exactly a great performance from the trio.

The survivor from Yellow Squad and now the 4 survivors of Teal Squad had joined Purple Squad and were making themselves as small as possible on the right to protect the Purple Squad engineers.

The Seraphim that had gone far left came back to join their compatriots in the center and essentially the three Seraphim Squads waited for the inevitable to come around that corner of the Power Generators, for they could hear the heavy footfalls of the Primaris forging ever forward on the other side like a metronome…

The left of the field was largely secure.  Red Squad was firmly holding the left objective and had taken only one stray casualty.  Bold action was needed now, because the right side was death.

3

The Primaris sensed the ease with which they were killing the Sisters and pressed their advantage.  Up moved the HellBlasters.  The Primaris Veterans up the middle turned the corner of the Power Generator to see the Dialogus sitting there, conveniently close to the nearest Exorcist and opened fire on the behemoth hoping to hurt it.  The Librarian saw his chance for glory and took it, rushing towards the brave Engineers, their Yellow Squad survivor friend and the lone survivor of Teal squad, while the Primaris who slew the missionary on the far right shot and killed all but one of Teal Squad.  The Warlord Moved so that he was perfectly within 6” of both the trailing Hellblasters and the forward Primaris.  The Imperial Guard had moved forward to hold their objective on the right and were content with that role.

The lone Tactical Squad on the left took a shot at the Green Squad again, along with the Exorcist, but to no avail.

The Primaris Marines charged into the Dialogus, slew him, consolidated into the Exorcist and the Seraphim, and then fought twice for yet another THREE Command Points, killing a couple of the Seraphim and putting a wound on the Exorcist.

The Librarian charged the Purple Squad of Engineers and killed one with his staff.  The brave Sisters fought valiantly, striking harder than one would expect but the ancient war plate of the Librarian easily turned aside their ferocity.  This left just the One member of yellow squad, teal squad and two of Purple squad left behind the pile of piping but next round would probably be bad for them.

Purple Squad disengaged from the Librarian while Teal “Squad” and Yellow “Squad moved away and shot at the Primaris Marines approaching them, desperately holding my right side objective against all odds.

The Imagifier tried to use become a Vessel of the Emperor once more, but FAILED on a re-rollable 2+.  Le sigh.

The Engaged Exorcist backed away to my left side objective.  The Seraphim jumped back and healed one of their members using the power of Faith!  The other two units leaper over the Power Generators and straight into the face of the enemy Warlord on the other side, firing glorious fusion Pistol death into his face at point blank times.  8 times their pistols spake truth and justice unto him and yet, he was unhurt.  Wow.  That was unfortunate.  The Seraphim in a fit of bravery shot past the Warlord and into the IG Company Commander, killing him in an unlikely but welcome flurry of blows; while the other Seraphim lost one of their number charging into the Hellblasters, to shut down their shooting and wrapped the Predator into them.  They took ever more wounds for their bravery.  Still they held and hugged.

Red Squad left the left objective and shot the Primaris Marines on the Exorcists doorsteps, and Green Squad fell back to join them in the fusillade with the surviving Seraphim.  The weight of meltas and bolters alone was not enough and so Ct. Celestine descended upon them and her Faith invigorated her enough to fight twice!  He interrupted her after her first swings to fight with the Hellblasters but it was for nought, as her blade single-handedly killed 6 Primaris Marines when the dust had settled.

The Exorcists finally came alive and even though there were only two of them able to fire, they slew the Primaris Marines that were far to the right, THE CULPRITS OF OUR MISSIONARIES DEMISE.  Finally, the real firepower of the behemoths was made manifest.

4

The Imperial Fist leader would kill the Seraphim who attacked the company Commander, and the Hellblasters surely would kill the Seraphim engaging them if they didn’t fall back.

The Imperial Fists were devastated.  Their leader had shown his mettle but the only units left to command were his Devastators, and Hellblasters+Predator who would have to fall back or finish the Seraphim; and a ten or so IG plus their mortar team.  The Sisters of Battle had turned the corner of the Power Generators and were in firm control of three of the four objectives.  It was simply a matter of time before the walls closed in completely and so the Warlord ordered the retreat before their doom could be completely sealed.

The score was approximately 34-12, Sisters of Battle victory.

It was quite the unexpected firepower.  Mission 2, Pointy Anvil deployment.  I chose deployment so he deployed and had choice of going first or second.

I seized.  Maybe the first time i can recall in a very long time!

I rolled like garbage.  Exorcists fired 1 and 2 missiles nearly all game.  i did 13 wounds to the Shadowsword with 5 of that being a Hunter Killer.  Lol.  Ya' know...

i failed to kill him when I had the chance a couple more times (epic roll failing) which allowed him to ram into me and use Crush Them Stratagem to excellent effect, grinding me under his treads.

My break came when he wrapped into another unit and included the Canoness.  Ended up blowing him up in my shooting phase finally (and thank GAWD, no explosions).  The Venerable Dreadnought wa the next to fall and then his Drago and Warlord made a run at Celestine.  Drago failed and paid with his life but that unkillable Warlord of his stayed alive with some magical re-roll shenanigan (twice) which was kind of amazing.

Celestine and most of my forces were deep in his deployment zone while his huge ball of Paladin death appeared behind us and started the killing.  They were my Gangbuster points nad again...and again...and again...  I rolled epically poorly even when fully buffed and couldn't kill more than one at a time and in return he was destroying the unit foolish enough to get in his way.  it wasn't until turn 6 that I finally got the Gangbuster Points but he had killed the Green Squad, Red Squad, a Seraphim Squad, the Warlord, M y missionary, my Canoness and yeah.  The whole vanguard of my army threw itself into them and just couldnt get it done until essentially I advanced my whole army all theway back tothe other side he was munching on and ganked a few in one last volley.

30-16 Sisters of Battle.

I took them to a tournament again.  I'll go over it briefly.  I'm overwrought by the death of my friend so I don't have it in me to go more in depth.  Just wanted to write it while it was fresh in my mind.

Game 1:  I played Brian, the store owner.  he had 2 ful Talos units, Wracks and a Black heart detachment of Kabalites and crazy pants hard to kill Ravagers and venoms plus Deep Striking Grotesques.

it took essentially my whole army to kill three Talos and then the same to get the second unit.  QUITE hearty.  My Seraphim were boses and killed enough Wracks on the drop to make them want to get away and then they killed a Ravager and kept hopping.  The Grotesques Deepstruck in and he failed the charge even with a re-roll (I need to look up the re-roll since i wasnt aware they could!) and then i backed away, which caused him eventually to miss a second charge.  My Arco-Flagellents then massacred the unit after it was whittled.  That really was the biggest deal during the game, although whether it would have changed much is another matter.  He might have just hastened theArco-Flagellent attack by one round, but we'll never know now.  In any event it was a win for the Sisters of Battle against the megashooty and yet...Mega-hitty Dark Eldar.  The Exorcists pretty much took a crap on me and i had to do everything the rally hard way which did reduce my score considerably.  I was real real impressed with the Talos though.

23-15 Sisters of Battle Victory, but we didn't get to play it out to turn 6, which cost me a lot of points.

Game 2:  I fought a massively shooty Primaris Marine army with a ForgeWorld Dreadnought, Venerable Dreadnought, a Devastator Squad, couple Sternguard Squads and the rest Primaris and characters to boost their CONSIDERABLE shooting.  I used the central LOS blocker as much as i could to draw the enemy out.  The Exorcists crapped out again and the Seraphim had to do a lot of heavty lifting, killing his Devastators, then his Primaris snipers, then his characters and even a straggler from one Primaris unit.  The Sisters got positively blown up by all that shooting so I had to be very cautious about showing myself to too many of his guys.  Even that hardly slowed down the casualties and he took a HEAVY toll on my forces.  Ultimately though, he wasn't killing entire units and he was losing them.  He couldn't get to objectives without exposing himself more than he wanted to whereas I just pushed hard on them everywhere i could.

30-8 Sisters Victory.

Game 3:

This was against a Nurgle horde army with lost of character/Princes and a 10 Terminator unit of Nurgly special termies.  The shenanigan withthis army was that he uses the Nurgle Stratagem to turn his whole terminator unit into a character, essentially making it impossible to shoot them and of course his 58 pozwalkers or whatever they were also were ensorcelled to be hard to hit.  Net result:  its a denial army.

i knew taking losses wasn't going to be okay in this contest so I played back and nerfed his Psyker phases pretty good, which allowed me the chance to do some damage.  i used an Act of Faith to cleverly hold more at start of game and chose to go second for that exact reason.  The game was very very slow points on both sides.  i blew away a ton of his guys but they made saves and feel no Pain rolls like they were going out of style.  I was able to gank his Slaanesh Prince and that helped.  His Pink Horrors dropped in and took a serious toll.

The whole game REALLY came down to one objective. I had a desperate gambit which would have tied our game, but he didn't see it, and was being rather pushy there at the end (overall game was fine).  I was going to kill the last two plague walker things which would give me the central objective if I got lucky with an exorcist, which i had to move into position unfortunately (and it worked, killing both, exactly as i needed).  That would then mean that he would not hold more because the Arco and the Missionary were still there.  He would then also not have killed more (his only kill that round was a Daemon Prince holding it and the two i blew away, leaving him just the Prince!).  My pivotal mistake was that because he was making a big deal out of getting it over with and i got distracted to say "Hey look, its close, I want to focus here, so please stop badgering me " (not in those words but that was the message) I simply forgot to move the one Arco OUT of combat with the Daemon prince.  So at the end of the phase instead of controlling the objective, the last Arco who was engaged with a Daemon prince was killed for my error.  So by not moving that one guy, I lost instead of tying.  A tie would have been 4th place.  Le sigh.

Final score was 21-19, so even though a loss, it was a valiant effort and the Sisters acquitted themselves very well again.

Overall running total is 26-3.  Still very pleased.  Still REALLY feeling like I need that Vindicare Assassin in there tohelp with the killed more stuff against opponents like this who are just so hard to kill.  Same sentiment against those Talos and their cool buffs.  Ultimately a Sniper like that could really help me.  Might do it.  Thoughts?

My friend Owen played his FIRST FULL GAME of Warhammer 40,000, and he used this army to do it.  He went up against the forces of the Deathguard and their Fire Raptor attachment.

The game was brief.  Owen essentially forced his opponent to capitulate in round 3.  The Mortar tank, Typhus and some Plaguey Terminators were the only thing left to fight and there was far too much territory to cover for them to impact the game at that point.  Owen had spread out and pushed the field enough that Typhus had limited options for coming in and they were all pretty much bad.

So 3 cheers for Owen!

  • 4 weeks later...

Some catchup reports.

Took the Sistaz out for a spin again at a Tournament.

First Opponent was Forge World heavy, with Death Korps of Krieg horsies outflanking me and tougher than any horseman has a right to be.  It was a unit I had never actually seen before on the table arrayed against me.  They fought alongside a False Celestine and Sisters in Repressors coming up the middle with a Canoness.  bringing the 4+ invul aura with them.  An Assassin popped shots off at me as well for a couple CP.  Points see-sawed back and forth, and it was a close game.  I prevailed 20-18.  The Arco-Flagellents were key in destroying his outflanking horses, which was pivotal.  Had the game gone on, it is fairly certain there would have been little left of his army, so the close score doesnt really tell the tale.  We did not make it to the end.

Second round was against...more...Forge World.  Grrrrreat.  Good news is the opponent was very awesome.  He had TWO Daredeo Dreadnought or whatever they are called.  Never seen them either, but I have heard of them.  He had a Darkshrous and characters buffing him and hiding him, a Tech Marine and a Chaplain Dread (I'm seeing those all over the place these days) as well as Hellblasters which did work.  It was Hammer and Anvil and a really big rock dominated the middle.  I went first.

The Exorcists had him outranged and so I let it do my dirty work.  I swung my army to the other side of the rock to minimize his shots on me and then for two rounds I just pounded his Forge World Dreads to dust.  The Sisters eventually advanced up to start killing things, and eventually get to the fight.  Rounds three th Seraphim joined in and slaughered more The Sisters of Battle actually took pretty heavy losses later in the game despite him losing all his armor.  He had some very good melee characters and of course hellblasters were on point.  I failed a lot of saves.  That being said the outcome was literally never in doubt in this one and at the end of the day, we had smashed all but some Snipers way in the back and his Vindicare, plus four Scouts on the other side I just never finished.  I wanna say is was 33-14 or something similar to that.

The third round was once again against Zachary Nelson (35th in the world currently) at top table.  He had essentially the same list as before:  Character spam with 60 plague bearers and some Pink Horrors to drop in later.  His terminators were as brutal as ever at shooting and he used cloud of Flies Stratagem to hide them also although I used yellow squad to smash into and hold the line of his Plague bearers so that his terminators could neverget around his own mass of dudes.  They never struck a single blow.   Most of his damage was Termie shooting which was frighteningly effective (and my saves frighteningly poor) and his Daemon Princes ( he had three I think).

As I OFTEN DO, I forget to bring in my Seraphim after I had dispatched most of his Pink Horrors and locked them up with an Exorcist.  Like all my Seraphim,.  ALL.  So I had nothing to get his characters and even the odds.  Net result:  a loss.  I wanna say 34-19.  I did think of some pretty cool ideas during this game, and was particularly proud of the Arco-Flagellents again.  I'm really not unhappy with how I did.  Character spam with T4 Plague Bearers just is what it is:  if you don't have snipers, you may never kill him and he'll get the jump on you.  If my army had 3 Vindicare Snipers I think we'd have a very different game.  Again and again I have considered them but that makes my army "Imperial" I believe which I don't want.  Sisters without help do have a matchup issue here.  Forgetting entirely to field the units that could have eaten his characters from behind probably did not help me.  Le sigh.

Total overall with the list:  33-4.  Two of the losses were to #35 in the world (Zachary), one was from 53rd (Colin).  I'll take it.

Sounds like you need to make a little stand up to put on the table in front of you that basically is a picture of your unit with a cartoon balloon saying "Don't forget us!"

It's really not a terrible idea.  Lol.  As you can see in many of these battle reports, I have utterly forgotten them.  Some weird mental block.  Dunno.  Top table is the entirely wrong time to forget 250 points of your army.  And to be fair:  there never really IS a good time to do that.

Back in the day, my dwarf miners sat around and played cards a few times. Sucks.

well its just crazy how many times it has happened. about 25% of the time!  No joke, look back on these reports.  its almost 1/3.

I'm beside myself trying to figure out why it's happening to me.  Something just is wrong with my brain or something.  They are a good part of the force, and often do work for me.  Just bizarre that I wouldnt be champing at the bit.

In some games I brought in some and not all of them even.  That's almost worse.  If youcount all those times, it probably IS a full 1/3 of the time.

TSHFT RECAP

Twas a long weekend.  6 games in one weekend is quite the marathon and it can tax your resolve to play on, but most of us made it to the end.

I had never heard of Jim Vesal before yesterday and the room seemed to have this weird fanboy vibe about him.  Turns out the number one player in the world was there and I didn’t even know his name.

The room was filled with names you know.  A BUNCH of top 5 guys from the various factions were there.  Jason Ryder, Jason Byrd, Sean Morgan, myself, Paul Winters, Jonathan Kohatsu, Collin Sherman, and a host of other heavy hitters.  Good turn out.

First things first:  I didn’t forget to deploy the Seraphim in any games, even though it was super close on my first game.  A win already so I could have been happy with just that.

1

First game was against Matthew Bombard, and his Steel Tempests with Blood Angel allies.  We played Dawn of War Mission 1 and he had infiltrators as his engineers.  We both experienced fairly terrible dice rolls, but I could afford to have bad rolls more.  He lost his ability to score Engineers almost immediately and wasn’t able to get upfield as quickly as he wanted to for other objectives, while I couldn’t make a save and lost entire units at a time to barely more than one round of shooting from his Deathwatch units, even despite my numbers. Since Celestine jumped to the fore and ganked some characters early before dying I didn’t have the ability to keep invuls on anyone beyond turn one, but that’s extremely normal for the way I play her.  It just happened to occur when I rolled cold as ice.  Likewise his saves were no better and the Arco-Flagellents were excellent in taking out three units in a round after an initial charge and some softening.  I was able to score consistently with Objective secured troops.  The final result was 28-21, so it wasn’t a blow out or anything and he was doing very well.  He got forced to rely on characters too much near the end,  and that allowed me to pick up points in rapid succession for Secondaries which was really the difference I nth game.  Once the Seraphim finally got involed (took til turn 4 for them to fire a shot on anyone but they did work the last three turns and we were able to finish 6 turns which further underscores how close the game was given the score.

I played Joseph Darbison next.  This game was destined to go poorly.  There was simply NO line of sight blocker in the middle.  None.  Just a broad avenue you’d have to trek down in order to approach his T’au Empire castle, and some buildings and such in the corners…  It was absurd and I kinda’ knew I was in trouble.  I got to go first and so I was intending to kill three small drone units and gank objectives to take an early lead and force him from his castle.  Instead, he seized.  Just for any chance at all during the game,   I advanced aggressively into that meat grinder with nowhere to hide and hoped my saves would preserve me.  I used Celestine as bait and he took it, firing on her and preserving some of my units, which was a coup for me.   My Seraphim made some attempt at getting to him from the flanks as those buildings were very conveniently located and I did kill some fire warriors wit hthe Missionary and Seraphim.  Mostly the ability to ignore line of sight played big, allowing him to pour shots into those small units and kill them.  I did kill his Command suit when It came to assassinate my characters and did deny him points that way after I rolled 2 6’s on saves!!!  I was able to deny him a lot of points actually, just by using what little I had and by offering less important things as targets but the game was just an effort on my part to score as many points as I could before the end.

THE BEST part though was Yellow Squad got to his lines and charged in to take th bonus points 2 rounds in a row.  Man that one little member of Yellow Squad that survived was a champ and was tenacious, giving me two bonus points on her own.  So epic.

Final score was 27-19 and I was really pleased about making it to turn 6 and still getting 19.  As before, given it was 6 rounds, I was pretty happy with how many points I DIDN’T give up in this one.  TO apologized about the table and assured me that if it happened again they would come over and fix it, so that was cool.  I wasn’t mad, but I did want to make sure I had an answer if it happened again.  The Triple-tide plus Broadside list is a load, and had a good chance of winning anyways but it still stings to sort of play a game with really no chance.  Scoring 19 points nad limiting him to 27 was a definite win though

Game 3 was against Justin Whitton and his Harlies.

I have seen them very very rarely and so I was quite lost on the rules for them and had to ask a lot of questions.  He helped me out a lot.  He had three decked out troops with Kiss’s and Fusion, 3 Star Weavers, Masque, Shadowseer Troupe Master, solitaire, more troops with crazyt weapons…  In other words he had a lot of AP that could get to you very very quickly.

We had Hammer and Anvil Deployment  mission 3.  Justin had a broken arm so we had to do some cooperative gaming to help him get his stuff where he wanted it.

On my turn I shot a couple of his bikers with Exorcists and then the rush was on.

His initial approach was successful and he got to Yellow Squad turn one, but they managed to bounce it after taking serious losses.  Then the Arco-Flagellents exacted revenge while the Skyweavers were ripped apart by Exorcist fire and then the occupants torn apart by Bolter fire.

He assaulted hard, but because Celestine never really had to leave to attack anything she was able to harden their armor and make them bounce hard.  Now in range of much more of my firepower, I brought it to bear hard, and it was not long before it was a very close up, very intense battle of his melee and me pulling away to tag him with shooting afterwards.  The Seraphim played a vital role, coming down to take objectives and then at the end killing some sniper character and another.  Finally they tracked the last model down to its lair and butchered him in the last round which we quickly played out just to see if it would happen in round 6.  I was honestly surprised that the Harlequins were so incredibly fast, and they had some cool shenanigans.  An elite type army would have been vbery sad to face it (and probably was).  The final score was 33-16 Sisters of Battle.

Trevor Quan was my next opponent, and he brought Forge World.  THREE Knights, and a minimal detachment of Admech to get the CP’s but he did use it to add two Onager Dunecrawlers.  He brought a singular Armiger Helverin of House Mortan.  His Cerastus Knight Acheron, Cerastus Knight-Lancer as well as his Knight Crusader were all of House Krast .

We were on Hammer and Anvil, Mission 4.  To make it fun (in retrospect I was being an idiot) I was like “Lets make this more fun.  Let’s put MY last objective  literally as far as possible from me and see if I can get it! With Seraphim”.  He was all for it of course.  So I stuck it at 6 inches from the corner as far from me as possible knowing the Seraphim would be the only ones who would ever reach it.  I don’t know why I do these things.

He went first, RUSHING his Knights up and smashing one into Red Squad.  I had gotten too cute with their placement and he just got in there.  One I could free myself I destroyed both of his Cerastus Knights with an ungodly fussilade of Meltaguns.  His Crusader blew up a bunch of stuff in return and charged in, locking two units but taking wounds on the way in.  Again I backed away and cut him but didn’t kill him this time.  My Seraphim went after points in his backfield and rolled absolutely terribly, first failing to kill a character in a ruin with their pistols and then failing to kill him in melee.

Similar luck awaited the Seraphim in the succeeding rounds as the Sisters thenfinally blew up the Crusader and he used his Command Points ot make it explode killing FOURTEEN Sisters of Battle and wounding or killing a lot of characters.  He scored a lot of points with just that explosion.

My Seraphim finally manged to get to his back end and get to his troopos there and a battle ensued between them that would last the rest of the rounds, and one lonely Seraphim just like from Yellow Squad earlier, battled and tried to kill them.  She failed.  Yeah.  I could have easily scored that bonus point 5 times that game and instead:  I didn’t.  Lol.

Anyways, the final score was 31-22 Sisters of Battle.

We were getting near the end and I was starting to wear down.  Getting up at 4 AM when you’re used to 8AM can definitely make you feel it!

My opponent was Rob Hartford.  He had Grotesque spam and air plane spam in a nutshell.  I can honestly say I’ve never been to an event where a guy forfeited, but this guy gave up before it started.  As I cannot ever remember playing him (or maybe we did once and it was in the ancient past) this was super odd.  It is what it is.

I would have bounced his lis pretty hard in any event.  This is a list type I have seen before, and perhaps he saw it that way also.  His 3 Crimson Hunters would have to come to me and I’m pretty resistant to them.  The Exorcists with 4+ invuls would be too (their likely targets).  There’s only so much room to circle.  The Razorwing fighters would have done better since they are nice fits against my infantry but whether they would last long is another matter as they would be the primary target until the Grotesques start to trickle in from the Webway.   The Grotesques would have been a challenge on the charge but there again, the volume of fire and the Accuracy my Acts of Faith give me (+1 to everyone for shooting afterwards!) would have made close quarters rather difficult on them afterwards.  Also I do have the Arco-Flagellents and the Canoness and Celestine.  So all in all, I was not super worried about the matchup, as I’ve seen it before.  We’ll just never know now.  All one can do is speculate how it could have gone.  I accepted the concession and away we go to Round 6

36-0 Sisters

Jason Rider ended up being my gateway to a 5-1 finish and the big big top 8.

Our battle was brutal.  At one point I killed two bike squads in one go, and he in turn was pounding me with Hammers, though my tanks weathered that pretty well.  I was playing hard to the mission since he had me outclassed with his list.  I used all the covers to try and stay out of his reach until I could get better shots.  Seraphim jumped in to try and gank his Assassin while others jumped out and got their efforts in and were helpful in killing characters.  His saves were pretty on point and 3+ invuls were everywhere so a lot of the oomph from the Seraphim was dissipated by that but I still have a lot of melta to offer and that at least was good against his various multiwound models.  Unfortunately I went first, making the objective taking uphill given my attempts to avoid the worst of his firepower and draw him in.  THAT was what really ultimately gave him the edge:  he could simply mach-speed to the objectives at the end of any turn. And he could kind of even things up easily, ganking bonus points like a mad man.  Lot of characters in that army. The big fail was when I got my sights on Bobby G and couldn’t down him.  Had all the shots we really needed for it, but two wounds shy of the promised land and he did work after that.  I also allowed my units to be waaay too close together , which cost me a lot of shots, and I didn’t stripe them as I probably should have to avoid the pile in stuff.  So there were good take aways from it, and good reminders of how to do it better next time, but it was so much better than the first time I fought that list.  But it’s just a REALLY solid list with a REALLY good General running it and there was no shame in losing to him really.  I think he’s like the #1 best Space Marine player in the world currently or some such.

36-30

I placed 12th overall out of 88 and that’s not too shabby for Sisters of Battle.  They now stand at 38-6.  One more event to go to, on the 24th, and then I change armies.  It would be cool to cap it off with a win at the event, so we'll see if we can do it.  It's a 4 round event.  Should be fun.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hartford conceded because he was just too exhausted to play properly or his back was killing him or something. I know there were a number of those on Sunday the last time I made it to TSHFT.

I really think it was personal.  While I have not played him (I dont think) he is friends with a couple people who just don't like me.  Sooo...  I don't think it was his back.  He seems like a sturdy fellow to me.  But one hopes you are right.
